Re: ADMINISTRATION - hashtags for SURNAMES of interest
开云体育Hi Lin,Sorry I posted my surname interests this morning before reading the post below.? Thank you in advance for editing. Cheers Wendy On 11/01/2020 3:03 am, Lin Duke wrote:
Dear All I hope you are all getting used to our new home. I am finding it very user friendly. A few of you are posting your surnames of interest so before we go much further... I have set up a hashtag #SURNAMES.? If you would put #SURNAMES at the beginning of your subject eg #SURNAMES - SMITH - BRADFORD - 1800 onwards - it will be easy to find all SURNAMES just by selecting 'hashtags' drop down box at the top of the page. I can edit posts, which is why some have been slightly altered, since I started the group so that SURNAMES has been put in the subject line. I've had a bit of time 'to play'. Hope this will be of benefit. Lin Duke List Administrator |
Re: WILSON West Leeds 1800 to 1900
Thanks Lin,? I have copy birth certs for 3 brothers, Josiah 1856, John William 1859, Harry 1862.? All show John as father (Dyer or Dyer's Labourer) and Ann Wilson (nee Akeroyd) as mother.? ?From other sources, docs and census etc, this Josiah is 100% my GGF.? In the 1851 Census, there is Ann Akeroyd living in the household of Elizabeth Akeroyd (Widow). But if she married in 1841 to John Wilson, why use her maiden name in 1851.?? In the same 1851 census, there is a John Wilson, Living with sister, Mary Ann Wilson, in Richmond Court (this is where Josiah is born in 1856).? In the 1861 census there is a Josiah Wilson, 4years, Grandson, living with Elizabeth Akeroyd, (Ann's mother?) in Burley St West Leeds. In the same census Ann Wilson, Living with Josiah Wilson, in Baker St West Leeds, just around the corner. With Josiah (4) and John William (2). I was suspecting 2 x Wilson families, with John and Ann as parent, and Josiah as first born in 1856.? But extensive searching and investigation does NOT show any other Josiahs born anywhere in Leeds in 20 year period, there's only ONE of them.? So maybe you are correct Lin, there looks like there could be 2 x Ann Akeroyd. Or it could be one big mixed up family.? Barry Wilson Queensland (no fires here at present)? Hi Barry
This is Josiah's birth registration from GRO (General Record Office) ?Registered 1856 Dec Q Leeds, mother's maiden name AKEROYD, VOL 9b Page 302 ? This one may also be connected John William 1859 Mar Q Leeds, mother's maiden name AKEROYD Vol 9b Page 367 I couldn't find any others using the surname WILSON mother's maiden name AKED Just a thought - have you looked into the possibility that John married two women called AKEROYD?? I've come across similar couples where this has happened which could explain the long gap. Lin |

WILSON West Leeds 1800 to 1900
Josiah Wilson born Oct 1856.? Richmond Court (Banks area). My GGF.? Having trouble confirming his parents, John Wilson (B 1822) (my GGGF) and Ann Wilson (nee Akeroyd B:1823).? Problem: John and Ann married 1841, first child 1856? Unusually long time.? Can't find records of any other children alive/dead. Maybe John in Gaol, Military, Sailor, can't find any records.? Also John's father (Thomas Wilson, my GGGGF) listed as "Hairdresser".? Not sure he was doing coiffure in those days, so maybe something to do with cloth making etc? Any ideas?? Many Thanks,? Re: LEE, GUITE, SENIOR, CLAY HURREL in Sheffield and Derbyshire
开云体育This is a real off the wall challenge for me because I know almost nothing about them! I met them a couple of times 60 odd years ago. They used to holiday with my grandparents. I believe they came from Sheffield. I’m just starting out on the challenge!

I haven't traced them back far as they marry in to my line, but from the few census records I have they came from Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk before landing in Bolton upon Dearne. William Henry was a coal miner; his father, Henry was a stone mason. Rosemary On 09/01/2020 16:45, Peter Lee wrote:

I’ve had a look at the Hurrell part of my tree but no William Henry. All the same I’m curious, where do your Hurrells originate from? Ours started off In Norfolk before moving to Sheffield. Peter On 9 Jan 2020, at 10:30, Rosemary Probert <rosemary@...> wrote: |
