Re: Using SysEx for switching sections of a pattern

Eric, YOUR Novation Remote templates !

i remember pattern Section being accessible, but not 'Style' number, which requires a Song Select message using F3h - which the RemoteSL cannot send.

Re: Using SysEx for switching sections of a pattern

Page 40 of the service manual there are some explanations how to do
Section Control (3-6-2). When ss = 08 it mean INTRO, Bruno maybe
you don't have a INTRO section ? dd = on/off need to check where is
the definition of 7F as you use.

Welcome to the group !

?I did alot of sysex stuff back in the day, but I haven’t heard of the remote setup.

Can you elaborate?

Using SysEx for switching sections of a pattern

Hello all,

Some time ago I deciphered the SysEx used in the famous Remote setup. Allegedly sending a message like: F0 43 7E 00 08 ss 7F F7 (where ss would be the number of section, between 08 and 0E) would cause QY70 to switch to the requested section. I tried it today with BCR 2000, but to no avail. Has anyone managed to achieve that?

Cheers,

Bruno

Re: Data Filer for modern Macs? (Monterrey etc)

Hi there! I also had this issue with the dialog box on my MacBook (OS X High Sierra, WineHQ v8.0.1) and Linux PC (Linux MX, WineHQ v7.0) when QY70 connected via MIDI cables (5-pin DIN).

1. Test if the MIDI ports of the sequencer work as expected (see pg.16-18 of the service manual).
- TO HOST switch set to MIDI
- connect the [MIDI IN] to the [MIDI OUT] terminal via a MIDI cable
- enter the MIDI Test mode: while pressing the [SONG], [PATT] and [>>] buttons, turn the [POWER] switch on, select test #7

2. Test if the ports of the MIDI interface connected to the PC works as expected.
3. Test if the sequencer transmits/receives MIDI data to/from the computer using a MIDI software other than QY Data Filer.
4. If all tests above pass, then pls continue;-)
5. Open the QY Data Filer and set the correct MIDI IN/OUT ports in the Device Setup.
6. Close the program and re-install by selecting Repair.
7. Open the QY Data Filer and e.g. Send SMF to QY70.

Hope it works for you!

That would be extremely cool if it was in a socket and dumpable… perhaps someone incredibly industrious could make an alternate firmware !

H i all

Yamaha Service manual refers to IC8 on page 4, as the ROM program 16M (bits) schematics (page 45/50) mentioned DIP 42 pins.Part list table mentioned XT344E00 as Main 341NV030 OTP 16M. I need tio open my QY70 to inspect the PCBs and locate IC8 to take picture and check it if it is on a socket (unlikely). Desoldering it to dump the ROM is usually a tricky exercise.

Best regards

Re: File /QY100_1.37.zip uploaded #file-notice

I believe I have a one of those as well… It’s just that Yamaha only released 1.37 publicly… version 1.38 just was never released, but was installed if they were manufactured very late in the cycle… maybe it just had something to do with an alternate (minor) chip being used on the very last production run… but that’s a total guess… More likely, they just stop making it and they didn’t invest the resources to put that last firmware update out publicly.

?User/custom is what you set the chord progression to so it uses the CD track, that’s all.

Yes, thanks - I use the "Cd" track to enter my own progressions when recording songs.
However it just seems convenient to audition the preset templates for progressions I'd not normally create myself..
Some of those presets are listed in pairs and look tailor made for using as either verse or chorus.. The templates are well documented, and as you said, I can always just program the chords manually..?

As it is, Yamaha went to a lot of trouble to create the chord template functionality, to then hobble it somewhat by restricting it to one template per song.
It is still a lot of fun to set up the Part structure and then switch the templates around in Play mode.. I'll probably do this at some point and if I need to, record the results on another sequencer..

PS. what is "users/custom mode" you mentioned - is that referring to Song mode / record??

Re: QY100: Using Chord Templates in Songs?

Greetings,
?
You can just use the progression track to enter in the progressions you want in any order you want when you are in users/custom mode. ?You wouldn’t use the presets this the way you would just put the actual chord changes in… But you could copy those from the presets if you wanted.

QY100: Using Chord Templates in Songs?

Rocky

Edited

I just started playing around with Chord Templates on my QY100, and found the presets to be really useful for getting quick ideas.

Is it possible to use more than one chord template in a recorded song?
For instance, using one progression in the Main-A part and a different one in the Main-B?

I know this can be done easily when playing back, but is it also possible to record the template changes for those sections?

Thanks, Rocky
