As Eric already said, most often is the MIDI to USB cable that "blocks"
big SYSEX dumps (as the fw upgrade is). A simple check could be trying to run the QY100 Data Filer software, if that works, you are ready to do a full backup, that never hurts. Rear right switch on MIDI, i.e. all to the right. Test that MIDI cable with other MIDI gear, chech that cable MIDI IN goes in MIDI OUT onthe QY... Anyway, I think that having the latest firmware is not so mandatory, after all. Good Luck and happy QY'ing! Re: Help........Please.......???
开云体育Here’s a few thoughts:Cable might not be compatible... I have heard of this happening but seems weird to have a Yamaha cable not be compatible... I use a cheapo midi/usb cable and have had no issues, though Ihave done a firmware update in forever to a QY. Second idea is to make sure the switch on the side is set to correctly... ?I would think it should be set to midi. Of course, looking in the menu midi settings is important, i think control shoukd be in/out...but I imagine that is covered in the guide. A really common problem is putting the in/out in the wrong ports... some cables are supppsed to have cable labeled IN connected in MIDI IN on the QY, while some are supposed to have cable labeled IN to connect to MIDI OUT on the device... (same issue about cable labeled OUT).... and some cables will just have arrows...? Anyway, it’s a perspective thing… If the cable is labeled in relation to connecting to the laptop or labeled in regards to connecting to the device (QY). I am fairly certain you cannot hurt anything by switching them around so that is definitely worth trying (but hey, do so at your own risk, lol). Mostly I would test to see if I can get a few notes to play on the QY that are entered on the computer…(or a midi file via a midi player). ? Once I know that works I would think the firmware upgrade should then work fine. ? A bad firmware upgrade can brick your device so I would make sure the connection is solid (by playing midi notes) before trying to send the firmware. Hope this helps. Help........Please.......???
开云体育
Hello All,
just unable to update my YamahaQY100 to the 1.37 Latest ROM and have tried everything I can find.......even the guide details in the manual.....using MidiOx and a host of other ideas.
I load the Data into my Windows 10, after connecting the QY100 to my laptop with a new UX16 Yamaha Midi -usb connector......follow all the download details (a red LED shows on the Cable)......but the QY100 just shows 'Waiting........', whatever I do to send
the Data into the QY100. Iv'e also tried at least 3 midi player apps.......but no shifting the data in the QY100. Can Anyone help me......please.....I think I'm going a little mad. Thanks.

Re: qy100 screen out
开云体育I know it sounds obvious but the first thing I would check in the contrast knob… It’s amazing how quickly people forget about the knob in the back when they have not used the device ?in a while. ??also, is there sound coming out of it… Like can it play the demo consistently without rebooting or anything like that… For like 10 or 15 minutes? Re: pattern style editor for mac?
isn't a Style a midi file with markers to separate the different sections? can't remember exactly how this works.
i was looking at - i think... - CASMedit, or something like that. CASM referring to this method of concatenating the sections' midi data into a single file. at the time i looked at various bits of freeware for this (am on Windows, so not sure if there were Mac versions), and most of them did not look much fun, considering that it's actually quite a simple principle. the complication is that there are loads of different 'style' types, for loads of different machines and manufacturers. we just want the type with 6 sections, Intro, MainA, MainB, FillAB, FillBA, Ending. (compare this with the RM1x, which has 16 sections in its Style format. more useful, have always wished the QYs could have a more conventional 'pattern' mode.) seem to remember that one program did have a more 'graphic' interface. it had some limitations though, was a bit quirky. and then the one that looked most promising, functionally, as a freeware, actually looked more like a spreadsheet, so not very inspiring. would be nice to have something simple and quick, with an easy graphic UI, maybe with a verification process, to let the user really exploit card-loading, and all the user style sections available. ie: make it easier to get a bunch of midi files, from computer, into playable form in QY memory. (the RM1x, for example, can handle *.mid files directly, i think, via the floppy drive.) |
pattern style editor for mac?
This has probably been asked before (possibly by me.....):
Current workflow involves writing some midi clips and then finding a very convoluted method of recording them to User Styles on the QY, which I then use to mess around with Chord templates, re-instrumentalizing etc. When it works, it works. When it doesn't my mind starts to wonder if there isn't a simpler way of composing styles and patterns and passing them as .Q1P files via the card. Any thoughts for a mac user? Alternatively I could break down and try and recreate an old windows rig but that also seems like the 'long way around' (still i would be interested if anyone is using ANY software to compose styles and patterns for the QY's). Thanks in advance. |
XGWorks to edit songs on a computer?
Curious if anyone writes on the QY then edits on a computer then back to the QY.
And wondering if XGworks is some solution to that, or if there is something else that would be better. Ideally something that can allow for editing of XG parameters not common to general midi. Thanks! |
Re: separate tracks recording (Was: Output Sound Quality)
Strange thing: never attempted that with the 100, but il's my standard workflow with the bigger brother (QY700). I do tracking in Reaper, simply setting bpm and tempo in the DAW same as on the sequencer, and sync just using plain MIDI Clock/SPP (DAW as master). Then, solo a lrack and record, rinse and repeat for all tracks. All perfectly lined up. You've tempted me to give a try tracking like this the QY100: I'll report back when done! |
Re: Output Sound Quality
Interestingly(?) in spite of midi clock sync it is very hard to record each voice separately and have them line up... unless ive done something wrong. Midi data records as expected but when you use the clock to try and record each voice as an audio track, things slip a little. Will have to figure out if there is a more sure way.
I guess I could do most of the mixing on the QY and record them all together, but that sacrifices some of the possibilities of separate tracks in ableton. |
Re: Output Sound Quality
Great thank you. The Y cable solved the audio quality issue perfectly, and chaning default 'warp' setting from 'beat' to 'complex' in ableton solved the rendered sound skipping. I'll keep the QY's levels in mind and try and get them to an optimally low place on record.
Next up: will be trying to disable all effects at the QY level and record each voice separately while using midi to sync. In some cases I may use the WAV from the QY voices and in some cases try to augment or add on the midi tracks with new VST's. Very excited to say the least. Feel like this has been weeks in the remediation. Appreciate the response and help very much Prea. Thanks! |
Re: Output Sound Quality
No particular recording issues here. I made a Y cable myself, 1/8" stereo jack to 2x 1/4" mono, i.e. unbalanced. Audio interface is a Behringer xenyx q1202usb 12 channel mixer (surely, the Scarlett has better AD/DA converters!}. I'm using one of the 4 stereo channels. I record using Reaper on a Ubuntu/KXStudio laptop (refurbished lenovo x220, i5, 8 GB RAM). I set the QY output volume approx. at 1/2 to 3/4 and set gain on the mixer so that I have about -12/-10 dB on Reaper. The idea is coming out of the QY not too loud, avoiding distortion and having as much headroom as possible, and raise (if needed) signal level at the mixer. Hope this helps! |
Output Sound Quality
So, Ive been playing with moving some of my QY tracks and songs (patterns and tracks) in my DAW.
Both my Audacity and Abelton, attempts have left the sound not coming through very clearly. Have narrowed it down to either my Scarlett 2i2 interface being terrible (always a possibility) or that I'm not using the right cables to output. Has anyone tried outputting the QY for recording purposes? Any tips on carrying the sound quality from the headphone jack out to a computer. Sounds as good as it always has on headphones but not able to get the same quality signal to my computer.... odd. Thanks in advance!! |
