Re: Card Reader Recommendation?

Edited

Hi,
?
Welcome to the group.
?
Generally any decent multi-Reader that supports SmartMedia should work. ?I personally use a Dazzle brand multi-reader (connects via USB).
?
One important note about SmartMedia: ?If you ever need to format a new SmartMedia card, do NOT use a computer - ALWAYS use the QY device itself. ?Using a computer to format SmartMedia cards can potentially ruin the SmartMedia card. ? Reading and writing from the computer is fine, but only the QY device should be used for formatting. ?Obviously, since you are trying to make a copy of an important card, make sure you are formatting the blank one and not the one with the data on it !!! (Obvious, I know, but mistakes happen).
?
By the way, The QY100 uses 3.3volt SmartMedia cards (upto 128MB in size). ?The 3.3volt cards are the most common ones you will find on eBay and they are fairly cheap. ?There are other (incompatible) 5volt ?Smartmedia cards that are very expensive…you do NOT want to use those. ?You can easily tell if a card is 3.3 volts by buying one that is 8mb in size or greater. ?The incorrect 5volt cards are only available in sizes of 4mb (or less).
?
Hope this helps,
Eric

Re: Card Reader Recommendation?

This may fit the bill, since it explicitly mentions "SmartMedia":

Oop's! Eric saves the day. I got my nomenclature's scrambled. Sorry.

Trail Boss is incorrect, QY100 does not use CF (CompactFlash), it uses SmartMedia.

Check Amazon. Search for CF card reader

There is also the Electra One, which I can vouch for as the best programmable controller

Re: Midi CC - Control # for Decay - QY100

Roland a-pro is better suited for working with SYSex, as it can dynamically substitute the current mini-channel into an exclusive message. And Behringer BR2000 is the best for working with SYSex.

Re: Midi CC - Control # for Decay - QY100

Think it’s 75. A complete list of cc’s are available online, I printed one off and it’s stuck up on my studio wall.

Re: Midi CC - Control # for Decay - QY100

A lot of the Novation Controllers are great with the QY
I used to have a Xio-synth - also a controller with a synth engine
and now I have the SL61 mkII
:)

Great – thank you!

I used NRPN MSB 1(dec), and 100(dec), and it works, I’m still learning all this midi stuff ?

Just FYI – if you want a great midi controller for the QY’s or anything else look for a used x-station it has numerous assignable controllers, and also has a full synth built into it!

Decay? - NRPN or SYSex only.? ?

X-station 25 exactly supports NRPN and SYSex.

NRPN:
?MSB 01(hex) or? 1(dec)
?LSB 64(hex)? or? 100(dec)

SYSex (hex):
08 nn 1B
nn = PartNumber
xx =? 00..7F (hex)
example:? F0 43 10 4C 08 nn 1B?xx F7

I am not sure off the top of my head but one thing you could try is to record on the QY-70 while you modified the decay (in the voice edit screen on the QY) … Then take a look at the cc or sysex changes by editing the track.

Also, you could check the QY-70 list book as all the CCs and sysex values are listed.

Re: How to save a voice?

There isn't a concept of saving patches as you typically find in synths / workstations unfortunately, it is more like your edits are part of the song / pattern.
I don't remember if there is a way to selectively copy/paste specific data from one song to another and couldn't find this functionality mentioned in the manual. The only way I know how to do it, is to copy the song to a new song slot and then clear the note data. It would be nice if there were a more straightforward way to do it, hopefully there is and I just missed it.

Personally, I prefer to do deeper voice editing from a computer via XG Works, since many more parameters are accessible. This also makes it easy to save the edits as a midi file for transfer to a new song/project. That could be a path to backing up voice edits you made on-device, if you are inclined to explore this option— dump the songs as midi and load the file into a sysex tool or xg works etc, and grab the data from the file for future use.

Re: How to save a voice?

Everything on the QY why is auto saved.

As I recall, To use it in a different pattern you would copy the pattern/section and uncheck everything except voice.
