Muting individual pattern tracks in song mode - QY100
Hello, I have both a QY700 and QY100, being a "amateur" traditional songwriter, I use pattern mode to formulate the verse/chorus/bridge/sections and then song mode to put it all together with chord changes adding lead parts etc. which I then record/sequence into to my iPad.
My question is can I mute the pattern tracks separately (not just the whole pattern) on the 100 in song mode like the 700 allows me to (which allows 16 pattern tracks to be muted/soloed separately)? I love both QY's but I am finding I can do almost everything I need with the 100 - and if I can do this or find a workaround, I would probably sell the 700..although that will be tough as it is an incredible (the best ever?) sequencer - I just don't need all those midi tracks and it's not portable like the 100. |

oh god i feel so?stupid i just realized thanks to reading the responses that i accidentally at some point moved the contrast knob. I totally forgot it even existed!!? As a defense I must say I was?very high last night thanks so much for taking the time to answer so quickly!! Hector LLanquí苍 +1 917 370 1892 |
Re: QY-100 Blank Screen After switching mode
Welcome to the group ! Never heard of that happening before, but anything us possible. ? My first thought would be to double check the easiest stuff first: Step ?0) Backup your songs and patterns to smartmedia if possible. Further steps: 1) Check the contrast…if you bumped one adjustment then you might have bumped the contrast knob as well.? …if that does’t work… 2) Do a full contrast sweep side-to-side and if the screen doesn't appear, then stop the contrast at what you feel to be the halfway point (so if anything else works you will see a screen change) …if that does’t work… ?3) Turn off the power and startup the QY in recovery mode to setup Factory defaults (NOTE: you will lose all data in memory, but not data on card). Factory restore procedure: Power on while pressing and holding down the [AMP SIMULATOR] , [PARAMETER] and [SONG] buttons simultaneously. The *QY100 TEST* diagnostics screen will appear. 2) Release the buttons. 3) Press the [F3] Function button (third grey button from the top on the right side of the display) to select '[F3]:Factory Set'.? ?The QY100 will reboot automatically. …if that does’t work… 4) Unplug it, take the batteries out and leave it off for 10 good solid seconds… then try putting them back and try doing item #2 (full contrast sweep….stopping at 50% again) …if that does’t work… 5) Do same as step 4 but ALSO remove the 4 or 5 screws on the bottom of the unit and open it like a book where the spine of the book is front of the QY (this prevents you from breaking/unplugging the internal battery cable. ?Once open place QY screen-down (i:e Book open) and unscrew the two screws holding the PCB board and the copper foil down. ?Next just gently lift only the copper foil and you will see a slot filled with a coin cell CR2032 backup battery. Slide the battery tofward the spring side and the opposite end of the coin will popup for easy removal. ?(Do not simply try to pull the battery without sliding toward the spring side or it will crack the battery holder.) Once the internal battery is removed (as well as regular batteries and any powercord)….wait a nice full 10 seconds (for any charged capacitors to dissipate). Then reassemble and see if the screen is better (remeber to do step 2 again regarding the contrast sweep and 50% placement. Tip 1: If this is all done solely with AA batteries (no powerbrick) then make sure they are good batteries. Tip 2: If you do step 5 then it is probably a good ?time to replace the coincell with a fresh CR2032 battery…a really good one can last 10 years. ?Coincell goes in positive side up when inserting into holder… insert it in reverse…place it diagonally in holder then slide toward spring side then let it slide back (away from spring) while holding the back end down a little to allow it to go back into it’s original position. ?Never a bad idea to write the year the battery was replaced on the positive side of it for future reference. Step 6) No matter what happens… If any of the above work, ?or if none of the above work, ?or if you figured out something else that works… Please update your post and let us know what happened… This will help others who may run into the same problem… Best, Eric -- ?? “The longest journey starts with the first step." ?- Lao Tzu |
Re: QY-100 Blank Screen After switching mode
开云体育Hi, Changing the switch from midi to pc ?shouldn’t cause that behavior. if turning it on and off does not fix it, try using another power supply (or batteries) or try removing the battery backup to force a reset. I asume you did not do any weird thing placing the midi cables (like connecting some voltage outside the specs) right? On May 3, 2022, at 2:04 AM, teleneurosis@... wrote:

QY-100 Blank Screen After switching mode
HI there,?
i was working on the QY-100 changing midi cables when i accidentally switched mode from midi to pc. The screen went immediately blank but everything else kept working, i had audio and midi control. Now every time i turn it on, the screen flashes for a millisecond and then goes blank but the audio and functionality keeps working. Anyone have a clue about what is this and how to fix it? Thanks |
Cycling song playback
开云体育
Hi all, apologies if this has been asked before.
Is there a way to have the QY70 cycle playback of a chord sequence? For example, so I can jam ideas over a solo pattern before committing to a recording.?
Assume the SONG is only made up of MAINs and FILLs, so no INTRO, ENDING or BLANK.?
Many thanks and regards,?

Re: QY70 screen and piano pad repairs
Paul,? ? Welcome to the group! ? ? To answer your questions:? ? 1. Most of the time for keys cleaning the?metal?contacts with 90% alcohol soaked qtip brings them back. ? It other cases using a white ink-eraser (not pink) cleans them deeper. ?If the contacts are really bad you can gently clean the rubberized side as well (but only a little as the alcohol can disolve the graphite pad if you do to much.. ? 2. The line issue is generally not bad pixels, it is a loose contact on the screen board... meaning a loose metal clamp. ? ?You need to dissassemble the QY fully to get to the screen (starting from the back). ?Once the screen is removed you will see bent metal tabs(clamps) on the back holding the screen pcb to the screen. ? Press the screen gently along the top and bottom edge until the line dissappears then tighten the bent metal clamp (nearest that spot) by twisting it gently … do?not?overdue or you will break the tab off.? ?Alternatively, You can bend the four tabs backwards and remove the screen pcb and clean it like the keybed (described above) but that is extremely tricky… Doing so also allows you to clean the rubber contacts on the screen itself but you risk quite a bit if you’re not technically inclined.? ? Good luck, Eric |
Re: QY70 screen and piano pad repairs
have a little tube of that stuff from aliexpress for an mmt8, not tried yet. any good? any tips?
tbh topic title made me think: and if there could be a screen breakout port, and some sort of arduino business, so you could plug your QY into (an SVGA or something)? external screen? |

QY70 screen and piano pad repairs
Paul Barton
Happy New Year to the QY Group!!!
I have a couple of questions on repairing a QY70 which I hope can get some advice with... 1. The black & white piano keys on my QY70 have recently lost sensitivity, especially around the middle C, D and add9/M keys. Does anyone know how these can be improved? I know Akai MPC pad sensitivity can be improved with the simple hack of adding a thin layer of rubber (or something similar) to reduce the gap between the pad and the sensor. Has anyone done this before and could suggest a method of cleaning or improving the sensitivity? 2. My LCD screen is now missing one of the vertical columns which seems to have died. Could this be a case of checking for a loose connection or is this totally unfixable? I know these little gadgets were first made in 1997 so components are starting to get a bit tired, but I'm happy to open up the bonnet and have a look underneath if its worth it - otherwise I'll be checking out Ebay for a replacement. Any help would be greatly appreciated -HNY! |

Re: Patterns and Styles
was also overcome with laziness ultimately: that interface looks too daunting.
we should petition jososoft to do a QY70/100 style creator :-D consider: each 'section' of a style is 8 'phrases' - single channel/track midi files. (is that covered by the jososoft Casmeditor? tbh it's awkward opening both of those, and i can't see how i'd make a style efficiently that way) personally, if i was going to do this now, i would want to take single lines from midi files and save them as individual *.mid files, then loading them as phrases, so there would need to be a phrase 'pool', separating melodic and rhythmic, and you chuck anything you want in there, can audition it with a click, once or looping, and then drag from there onto track slots in 'sections' (as 'phrases', which is what we do with QYs) - and you get your style like that, and can audition it with your computer XG/GM soundset (or XG Gold or something like that) before saving it and transferring to your QY. (i found it easier and more immediate to import bits of midi files to instrument patterns in Orion. mainly using snippets of midi breakbeats, but also tried nicking well-known basslines, taking bits of latin percussion etc - chuck it in DAW, split to separate tracks, get the bit you want, export a new *.mid. import that to a pattern slot assigned to a VST instrument, and done.) |
Re: Patterns and Styles
Thanks everyone for the answers! I already record stuff either on the Senior brother (QY700) or in a DAW (Reaper user here, since ages), and then send 4/8 tracks to the 100. I admit it, I'm under a laziness attack, and would prefer reducong edit time... The suggestion Eric made above is a thing worth trying, looks a promising effort. As many of you would suspect, I have several of those MIDI megazips... they faithfully modev in years from floppies to tape tp CDROM to the home server... wonder if they still work, and that's a second suggestion (thanks QYedit!). And thanks to Kaltar and Eric to have reacter to my stirring and revived the files section! ;) |
Re: Patterns and Styles
you could find one of those midi file megazips with millions of popular tunes,
then drop a *.mid onto a DAW such as Cubase to split it to individual parts, which can then be edited and exported as separate *.mid files. had some fun doing this in Orion years ago. so how to then get it onto the QY - is it the Datafiler that can import single track *.mids? somehow it isn't via the memory card slot, as i recall. that only handles full 'Style' files. and a Style is a kind of MIDI file: basically it's the 6 (or fewer) sections, concatenated into a single file, with headers for each section - is that it? i looked at software for this and discovered the term CASM -it actually covers many different instrument 'style' formats. so here were some of the candidates, and there seem to be some new links: jososoft CASM editor (and much else) : there's another called CASMedit ( i have versions 2.00 and 2.4) info here: most seem to prioritise PSR keyboards and others (Tyros?) but should be able to do QY. don't know if any others/better candidates. |
Re: QY70 and QY100 Group File Update
开云体育Thanks Eric! you come always to the rescue! not even 10 hours ago I made the comment of the yahoo file section and you already uploaded the files here! If Yamaha had support like the one you provide to the forum, we’d already have a QY-1000! Thanks again On Dec 29, 2021, at 10:41 PM, Eric <erichemingway@...> wrote:
