Re: Digest Number 4303
It even looks like has a migration tool for moving most content from yg.

Re: Digest Number 4303
I'm a noob to the group but am finding it invaluable to a project I'm working on.
If the group and moderators want to move it to the premium plan on I'll gladly pay the fees for the first year.
Just let me know.

开云体育Yeah, that has to be figured into the mix.? Three groups is probably to get around the file limitations; at least, I know that YamahaDXFiles is a dummy list, intended for file storage only.? This is perhaps the biggest downside of 开云体育 vs. Yahoo Groups:? Yahoo allows 2GB of photos, and 1GB of files; while 开云体育 allows 1GB total in the free package.? The premium package allows 10GB (and adds many features), but costs a monthly/annual fee.On the plus side, they claim to have tools to port a Yahoo Group to their site.

开云体育Some people seem to forget that there are actually 3 groups: YamahaDX,
YamahaDXfiles and DX_Files. Is it the same moderators for all three?

Hi Bruce, Yeah I saw that too, might be worth trying the free version at least for
now.
?
Regarding archiving this groups is anyone here doing something ? I took 2+
hours yesterday evening to save one by one many files from here and
YamahaDXFiles group and now I'm running a python script
(https://github.com/andrewferguson/YahooGroups-Archiver) to backups the
messages. I'll be happy to help doing a nice archive of this group to help
anyone wanting to revisit it in the future. Don't hesitate to chime in to talk about it. Cheers, Jonas |

开云体育I've talked to a few people, and there is a site called 开云体育 that seems to be filling the needs of many current and former Yahoo Groups.? It even has some features missing from Yahoo's offering.? There is a free version that provides 1GB of file storage; and a Premium package that gives 10GB, but costs about $10USD per month.? It might be worth looking into.--

Re: Since we're showing off programmers / controllers for the DX7 that we made...

开云体育Hi All,Sad, yes, but not all that surprising.? I started an eGroup back in 1998, before they merged with Yahoo Groups.? Yahoo closed GeoCities in a similar move some years ago, and I've been waiting for the 'other shoe to drop' since then.? I'm actually pleasantly surprised that Yahoo Groups avoided the axe for so long.? It's been essentially free, so Yahoo is within their rights to cancel the service.? Unfortunately, there isn't an exact alternative. It has been very nice talking to all of you.? It looks like the email forwarding is going to stay for a while, so maybe we can keep the dialog going?

They claim that you'll still be able to interact with a group via email. I'm wondering for how long. There are other mailing list providers, and there are rumors of migration tools that might help the changeover, should folks want to go that route.

Re: Since we're showing off programmers / controllers for the DX7 that we made...
Yep, 32, and they are all live, all the time. You can change as many at once as you can touch.
I can pick & choose with the software which control runs which parameter. Right now I usually have the eight most-often (for me) tweaked parameters for each voice set in groups. Operators 1-4 are on one page, 5 & 6 are one a second page, with the second page handling some LFO, feedback level, and other misc. functions.? I hit a key on the laptop that runs the software to select parameter pages, and the computer also handles the patch library. When started, the software loads part of the patch library with the patches from the instrument. The rest of the patch library is whatever other sounds I've been working with. It would be better to have more controls, spaced closer together. |
Re: Since we're showing off programmers / controllers for the DX7 that we made...
That is impressive.? It looks like you can change 32 parameters at once, but maybe I've miscounted.
How are you choosing which ones to edit with it?? Is there a way of choosing banks of parameters, and if so, which ones did you decide belong together, to be controlled by it at the same time? - Andy |
Re: Since we're showing off programmers / controllers for the DX7 that we made...
No doubt, a very enticing controller. Perhaps if FM becomes a hot category again, some major manufacturer will take up Barlow's design, and let him retire in comfort. As a new owner of a DX7iiFD, I would love to see this happen -- maybe Behringer?

Since we're showing off programmers / controllers for the DX7 that we made...
Here's one that I built, to give real-time control to the DX7IID, it allows seamless transition from patch preset parameters to live control. It totally changes the game on how an instrument can be played. as well as making FM synthesis fun. |

Re: Some keys not working on DX21
Have you verified that with an init patch, just to make sure it's not some weird feature of the patch you're trying it with?
It sounds like it might be a keyboard matrix ghosting problem.? Keyboard matrix scanning relies on diodes, to stop phantom key presses happening when you press more than one key at once. If you think of a matrix scanned in rows and columns - picture it as a grid - and you press keys closing three points, making three corners of a rectangle on the grid, it would be equivalent to pressing the fourth corner too, unless there were diodes there. it's harder to picture how that happens with two keys at once, but I haven't seen the service manual or schematics. So, I'd suggest checking the diodes that are part of the keyboard scanning circuit... there might be quite a lot of them, I guess. Some multimeters have a diode setting, which shows you the voltage across the diode - typically 0.2V to 0.65V from anode to cathode, depending on the type of diode.? If you don't have that sort of meter, just a volt meter, a 1k resistor (or similar) and a battery will do fine - connect the volt meter across the diode, and feed power from the battery to one end of the diode, completing the circuit from the other end, like this: Battery + -> 1k resistor -> anode of diode cathode of diode -> battery - A single AA battery, or two or three in a clip, would be fine. For a working diode, you'd get a voltage drop from the anode to the cathode, in that range - most likely around 0.6V.? If you don't get the reading, try the probes the other way.? A reading of 0V or significantly more than 0.6V indicates a dead diode. - Andy |
