Re: FM Heaven?
I've heard of a VSTinstrument called FM Heaven which is supposed toI don't have it, but it's supposed to be pretty good. One I have used is on Virtual Sampler, which has it's own DX emulation. That one is nearly spot on - there is a Feedback issue; turn it down if it's too much, the it's fine. I use this for previewing patches before I spent half an hour programming them in (no MIDI!) If you get FM Heaven, let us know how it is. Ta, Jon P. Moran |

The program you want is Soundlib. It's freeware. I think you should be

able to find it in a search. Don't forget to get the freeware password (it used to be shareware but the author has released it as freeware now). Beware though. Soundlib sends and recieves DX7 (original version) data only. It wont store the extra settings that DX7II patches. For instance: The original DX7 didn't have different functions for the Mod wheel in every patch. You set it to work a certain way, and it affectedevery patch the same way, until you changed it. The DX7II stores a setting for the Mod wheel in every patch. If you store your DX7II patch in Soundlib it will lose these extra settings. Also, make sure sysex is on.(that will be in a MIDI button, you will have to be in EDIT mode to access these). You can specify (in a MIDI menu on the DX7II) whether a bank of 32 patches goes to locations 1-32 or 33-64. Yours, Nathan -----------------Original Message----------------------
Hi ! I'm new on this list. I'm a total beginner with sysex, and I wander if DX7 patches can be used with a DX7IIFD (I'm the lucky owner of this one). I tried once to use a DX7 sysex bank, and my DX7IIFD didn't want it. Is there something special to prepare DX7 banks before using them with DX7IIFD ? Is there a program that do it automatically ? Thanks in advance. Greetings to everyone. Gaarn Ghost. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! DX7 and MIDI Velocity
Hello
I'm new to this list, but have been delving into the world of FM synthesis. I would like to know which DX synths do not send midi velocity to 127. I had heard some or most of the DX synths only translate a 100 midi velocity from the keyboard. Any insight on this? I'm also looking very seriously at a Nord Modular, because you can do some sort of FM/DX patch loading or sending- which would be really cool. Thanks for your help! Best Regards Scott Wilson |
DX7 - IID problem
Hello!
I'm new to this list and wanted to ask if anyone has an idea of what could be the problem with my DX7-IID synth. When I switch on the power I just hear a soft "tick" through my headphones (using lineout connected to a mixer) but the display never turns on and nothing works. My first thought was that this might be a battery problem but it indicates 3 volts (don't know if that's correct). I then checked the fuse next to the power supply and it seems ok. There has never been any problems at all with this synth and just one day it stopped working. Any ideas would be very appreciated. Regards, Johan |

I should have used a search engine of course, but at least the info is here for the archives in case the Q comes up again. LOTS of DX7 patches in that 7 M file! It will taker a while to go thru them. I use a program called WINRAR. If I am not mistaken, I got it from www.pcworld.com in the download section. If it is not there any search engine should be able to find it for you.

New DX owner
I just recently purchased a DX21.
I like the synth alot, it works great with my W5. But besides all the great things it does I have stumbled across a few problems. #1- I was trying to find a tape drive with the original DIN pin connector, but I am having no luck. With the way my music is going, I feel it isnt wise to program each and everyone of my voices for live us onto the 32 voice ram (I think I would lose it too quick. So anyone know where I can get a tape drive?? #2- I was using Midiyoke to input some patches from this site, but the ones I could load only loaded to the first bank (A1 A2 and A3) the rest were garbled, not really voices at all (they didnt have labels). The patches that wouldnt load were only the patches above 4105 bytes. Anyone know why or how I could remedy this? That's about it, I figure if I cant get a tape drive, maybe someone can actually tell me how to fix these little problems. Thanx Fear |
DX alternate Tuning Program?
Just found this on the file section under MISC:
DX7 Alternate Tuning program Can anyone tell me anything about it? I am guessing it has to do with (hopefully) the microtunal abilities of the DX7II. I have a DX7S which has Microtuning ability. Is this for the mark I or the mark II? Tim |
Re: Woohoo! TX81Z
Does anyone remember the magazine "Aftertouch"? Originally it was aby readers. I had a couple of patches published myself. This was wayback in the '80s though..... Yes I remember Aftertouch. Looked forward to every issue. I recently got a TX81Z, and what was part of the deal was an AFterTouch magizine featuring the TX81Z on the cover! Great issue you can imagine. I am exploring Microtonalty on my TX81z. I used 4-Op deluxe on the Atari as it has complete access to the Microtuning tables. This is largely an unexplored realm that is worth getting into: unlock some doors so to speak. You don't hear much about it anymore. You can get some very unique timbres. Just saw a previous post that was forwarded from Daves Dx7 list that I posted (small world) about Steem, the Atari-Emultaor for PC. $-Op deluxe should work well on that for those that want to try it. A great editor and easy to use.Created by Bob melvin who later created Unisyn (now at MOTU) BTW: just joined this grp after the honorable mention from mango. I am also the Moderator of Atari-Midi Yahoogroup. Great grp as well. Glad to be here. Tim Conrardy |
Re: Woohoo! TX81Z
Check out this shareware patch editor. It includes software for the
TX-81Z: Does anyone remember the magazine "Aftertouch"? Originally it was a free magazine published by Yamaha, like the Roland magazine still being made. Each issue contained a couple of FM patches submitted by readers. I had a couple of patches published myself. This was way back in the '80s though..... Re: New song featuring Yamaha FS1R

Checked your tracks. Very cool. I liked Fever Dreams, but I have a hard time believing that main pad, the one that starts the intro is a DX-7. It sounds more like a Nord. Or a close relative of the Yamaha SK50D. Either that or you’ve got it going through some phat Ensemble FX. :)
