That's either the Anatek box or a close design to it. Anatek also made a bright red box that added power to a MIDI line to feed their boxes if someone had several of them in a single line. MIDI Solutions might have something like that as well.

I still use their Pocket Thru and Pocket Merge boxes, and for a while I had a Pocket Pedal too, which was way nice. I wish they had a Pocket Pot or Pocket Fader in their line. Nicole -----Original Message-----

(Sometimes they kind of work, which is it's own set of problems!) Yes, I'm aware of it -- the keyboard makes the CC2 using the breath controller voltages, exactly like how foot controllers and footswitches provide the voltage for whatever they're controlling. Such is the world of peripherals in many cases.

I'm on the hunt for a breath controller. And they're proving to be elusive. I've found references to the Yamaha BC1 through BC3, though that was a single link, but they all seem to be both pricey and also discontinued. Anyone know where I can find one at a decent price? It doesn't have to be made by Yamaha, it just has to be able to turn an air stream into CC2 and plug in using a miniphone connection to my DX7IIFD or K2600XE. It'd also be nice to know if anyone is still making them. I'm working on a book on MIDI, and I'd like to be able to point my readers in a good direction to find one should they want to. 开云体育The price of a DX1 in 2023 has less to do with the sound and performance, and more to do with the fact that very few of them were made -- 140, according to Wikipedia.? In the same vein, a mint-condition 1963 Corvette might sell at auction for $500K USD, even though it's not really all that close to being a high-performance 'supercar.'________ I'm an owner of Chipsynth OPS7 and Cherry Audio's GX-80, which contains the 'last note aftertouch' algorithm. OPS7 is a great emulation of a first-gen DX synth.? (There was a small learning curve from my TX802, because a few parameters have different response curves between the two generations.)? It's functionally a superset of a DX1/DX5, and has a well designed UI that in many ways exceeds the DX1's front panel.? If one enables 15-bit DAC support and GM-style volume control the result is actually audibly superior to the DX1, unless one is looking to clone every limitation of the original hardware.? It has MIDI, split, and pan capabilities not available in 1984-85 products, and it's easier to save and load new banks of sounds. The poly aftertouch simulation created by Mr. Shoebridge, while not a perfect imitation of real poly AT, is surprisingly useful in practice.? I wasn't aware that it was available in standalone format; I'll have to check it out!

开云体育If you want to future-proof your DX sounds,? I think avoid anything as exotic as a DX1.?? Get a decent MIDI controller keyboard and install a few instances of a VST.?? There is a “bit accurate” version of the DX7 Mk1 called Plogue Chipsynth OPS7.?? OPS7 has two engines per instance (kind of like a DX5) but can only read SYSEX from an original mk1 DX7.? It sounds identical.?? If you layer a few OPS7 in a DAW you can emulate TX816 sounds (8 x DX7 Mk1) and more!?? You cannot do the poly-aftertouch in OPS7 (even if you had a poly-aftertouch MIDI controller).?? I think that there is a chap who now works for Cherry Audio (Tim Shoebridge) who has written a VST utility that emulates “last note aftertouch” or “first note aftertouch” changes..? but not as functional as the real DX1 aftertouch. |

开云体育DX1 and DX5 are just only rare collectors items.According to Yamaha FM technology, there are NO advantages vs. a DX7mkII(FD). The DA converters are different, which has impact on sound,- if YOU consider this to be an "advantage". Poly AT is a nice feature,- WHEN you can really play a keyboard instrument and PRACTISED using polyphonic aftertouch. If you didn?t up to now,- be prepared for a learning curve. What price a DX1?

Today I noticed a listing of a Yamaha DX1 on Ebay for the bewildering price of AUD$213,084.39. A two followed by FIVE zeroes. Is the polyphonic aftertouch a justification for such a whopping price? What other advantages have the DX1 over, say, the DX7IIFD?? Easy editing? You could use the CX5M's DX7 editor cartridge on the cheap. |

First stupid question: did you try the single outs? And did you try the Phones out? If yes for both and if there is no audio too: If you have a voltmeter (and know how to handle it) then check the +15/-15V supply voltages. 开云体育I don't have an RX11, and haven't even seen one since the mid '80s, but there are some general things you might do to help the members of this group (who are generally quite helpful) to assist you.Sometimes, when an item is very broken, it's helpful to list the things that the item *can* do, even down to simple tasks.? As an example:
This will help to sort whether the problem is likely digital
hardware (CPU, ROM, etc.) or audio hardware (DAC, op-amps, etc.).?
Can you provide this?
