Re: TO ALL MEMBERS of YamahaDX

Just read your message but luckily I subscribed yesterday-evening (CET) so I got the $110 deal :-)

What worries me in that message is that they might get overzealous now that most of Yahoo-groups moves to groups.io and they will ask a monthly/yearly fee next year because we got nowhere else (at least free) to go...
We'll cross that bridge at that time.

Re: Moving the list

While we’re thinking about options for moving the list, other board systems that have been suggested on the Kurzweil K1000-K1200 group are and?. Has anyone heard of these or checked them out? Maybe it could be another option for this group?

Hope this helps,
David

PayPal charges a fee only if it’s from or to to a PayPal business account.

If its from and/or to a personal PayPal account, there’s no fee.

A simple e-mail address that the web-master has linked to his personal PayPal account is all any of you need to send money via PayPal to his personal PayPal account!?

I wish I wasn’t a senior living on very tightly-fixed monthly income or I'd throw in something, but I’m just barely making ends meet each month as it is.?

Maybe this 2-cents worth is my sufficient contribution.

Catch ya later. ?Bye for now.

Dan.

Although I'm personally not really involved in the ongoing matters here anymore I certainly don't want to lose this treasure-trove of information for all those ppl who live here.

Therefore I've setup a [email protected] account and will export all the messages AND members over there.

My time is scarce so I'll have to squeeze this in somewhere but I've understood that this process should work and then we're not reliant on Yahoo anymore :-)

Wrt to the storage we have 1GB file space which should be enough for everything here and in YamahaDXFiles.

The latter will not be moved to Groups.IO because it was only created due to the limited space we had initially in this group.

The files will be moved one way or the other.

I intend to keep the joint-staff of owner/moderators as it is now, as soon as I've figured out how to set it up.

Another thing I don't know how it will work out is the login of all members.

Apparently one can move all subscriptions too but as of now no clue going on from there...

It should always be possible to subscribe to this new list.

If it's done I'll notify this and close this group wrt posting/replying to messages (if possible).

To a new life in Groups.IO !

I’ll go along with that. I know Ben S. did a GoFundMe for the VintageKorg group but that seems like overkill. He just liked the transparency of it since everyone could see exactly how much was donated.

Agreed.? The cost should work out to only a small amount per member, but we need to find a way to donate to the cause while making sure that you retain the bulk of the money.? Most payment portals (PayPal, Square, etc.) take 2-4% of the transaction, but they also take a fixed fee, generally $0.30-0.35USD per transaction.? So, if we were to say, "Everyone send a dollar to the cause," the card merchant would likely keep a third of that.? Great for them, not so much for the beneficiary.? They sometimes make exceptions for donations, but that's if the cause is a bonified charity.? Sadly, I don't think a synthesizer knowledge base qualifies.

That said, $110USD isn't a lot of money to raise.? I certainly would be willing to contribute say, $10-15 to the cause, which would make the transaction fees a little less painful.? If 5-10 others chime in, we're good.

Does anyone know of an alternative way to donate?

-BW

My understanding was that you needed the paid $110 per year subscription to use the migration tools and without them you would be moving one item at a time.
