I do not think the DX7 is too old as MIDI is just a? protocol (although I heard MIDI2 is in the pipeline) . I would check the instructions of the Bluetooth device as nominally in MIDI, IN goes to OUT and vice versa,not IN to IN and OUT to OUT,it depends on the way the cable has been labelled. On the basic DAW set up diagram shown on this page,you can see IN going to OUT and OUT to IN. If you are experiencing no data,possibly the cables are in the wrong sockets. One of the possible drawbacks of the MIDI spec is they did not make it impossible to get the cables back to front.
