FC-40 Flexibility

I'm really struggling to settle on an antenna for my first HF rig.? I'm getting some good input on a related post in the FT-450D group.

?

This group may be better for some of my more specific questions.? From other posts in this group I think I've confirmed that the FC-40 can tune a loop by attaching one end to the antenna post and the other one to the grounding lug even though they aren't addressed in the documentation.? I'm starting with an attic installation and think I could probably string out about 40 meters of wire in the space I have.? What range of frequencies cold I potentially tune with that length of loop?

It also appears that a doublet on ladder line can be done in about the same way.

What about a conventional coax fed dipole?? Can that be tuned if attached to a balun?

The thing I like about these options is that I don't think I would need to deal with a ground connection like I would with a long wire antenna.

Thanks.
