Squelch at FM mode works not correct

Hi FT-847 users,

I have the problem with my FT-847 that with FM the squelch closes a
little, but when turning the knob further to the right, the squelch
opens again. If the squelch knob were a clock face and if there is no
signal on the VHF/UHF band: So if the knob starts at 7 o'clock and the
squelch closes at 8 o'clock, it opens again at about 11 o'clock and then
remains open until the right stop. With SSB everything works fine. I
would venture over with meters, oscilloscope etc if I knew where to
start. Is there a comparator or Schmitt trigger where I can start my
search? Circuit diagram is available.

Thanks for reading!

I had that problem, try cleaning the track in the pot, dribble some cleaner (alcohol say) down the shaft with the set on it's back with the knob off, if that does not work it's a replacement pot usually.
Leighton. GW3FSP.

As a last ditch resort before replacing the pot, I have dismantled them before and given them a clean. Generally the wiper either gets corrosion on it or it's just general dirt buildup (use switch cleaner or my preferred method of ipa). They are usually very easy to take apart by bending a couple of clips that you can easily bend back afterwards.
Good luck finding a replacement if you have to, as spare parts are now very few and far between unless you buy used, which comes with its own potential problems.

Good luck

Thanks for your help, but if it were the potentiometer, why does
everything work fine on SSB? There must be something defective or
adjusted in the area Sqelch or AGC, or?
