As a last ditch resort before replacing the pot, I have dismantled them before and given them a clean. Generally the wiper either gets corrosion on it or it's just general dirt buildup (use switch cleaner or my preferred method of ipa). They are usually very easy to take apart by bending a couple of clips that you can easily bend back afterwards. Good luck finding a replacement if you have to, as spare parts are now very few and far between unless you buy used, which comes with its own potential problems.

I had that problem, try cleaning the track in the pot, dribble some cleaner (alcohol say) down the shaft with the set on it's back with the knob off, if that does not work it's a replacement pot usually.
