At any rate, does anyone know the part number for the power plug?

Thank you.

Re: Molex plug for FT847 power.

You could also try the rear panel connector for FT857 or FT897, seeing as they are the same item, and more likely to be available

Re: FT8 and ALC

Set the level for good speech on mic gain then leave it there, pad down input level to no more than 5mV rms

Re: FT8 and ALC

I set the audio level to just barely cause the ALC to move when in transmit mode.? I set the power control on the radio to give me the desired watts out.? I use this same method for all of the digital modes I use.

Not sure that is how others do it but I've managed 7 bands DXCC and 8 bands WAS so far with digital modes, so it seems to work for me.? I've never had anyone inform me that my signal was causing issues.??

Peter,

That is exactly what I do when I use my FT847 with JS8.

No! If I understand you right. You must set your radio settings how you want. This is not the same power as on the software. There is a scale you adjust this to change the audio level. I think it’s called the power level and it will bring your ALC down. You can have the ALC showing but set it low as you say or just disappearing but that’s your choice, personally I have mine showing a couple of bars?

Just playing around with FT8 and reading up as much as I can. Many links and how to's mention that you just need the ALC to flicker. SO I have set the PWR meter set to ALC. So in regards to the ALC dos this mean I adjust the audio to the radio till I see the first couple of squares/bars come up during transmit/tune?

Re: General Cat control

Hmmm found the menu and the issue. I had the baud rate different. I made up a cable as per an online link. Once I changed the baud rate all went well....

Re: Preference to an interfacing system

Edited

I used to use a remote rig interface on my TS480sat with great results or https://www.remoterig.com/wp/
The FT847 will interface but you will need remote controlling software as well, which depending on the serial number of your radio and whether or not you got the factory update (I did) will determine whether or not it's capable of bi-directional CAT (RS232) control.
I've got an FT847 and have used it with CAT control but it's been many years now since I have...
The CAT interface even when bidirectional will not give you access to each and every front panel control so bear this in mind as far as remote control but still will let you do many things...

You should check the serial number of your 847 against the version chart (somewhere on the 'Net - I forget where).? The early versions could only be driven from CAT, not read from.? Not being able to see what the radio config, etc. is can make remote use a bit more challenging.

My interface of choice is rather expensive but very reliable but you can get them from the internet here in the UK second user and quite cheap and that the BrainBoxes US-27501

? Remember the FT847 is Null modem connection to RS232 ports. You could use the Yaesu SC17 but that will only help you for VHF and UHF but will give you a standard com port without RTS and DTR and also create another port (uses same hardware connection but enhanced with RTS DTR pull-ups for PTT.). Mine is Com7 and Com8. I can’t see any reason building a 6 mini din socket and that can connect to a Yaesu 8 pin microphone socket. Yaesu advertise the SCU17 for just about every radio except the FT847 probably because it’s tricky to get it working with HF. Nearly all data ports on the FT847 are dedicated to VHF and UHF. Eg: 6 pin and 3.5mm data TNC.

? How this helps. Had to remove the video as I wasn’t sure it had any personal information in it…. Will post again but I just Skyped myself and listened to GreenCube data but obviously can be extrapolated for any satellite.
