The old Yahoo messages can be found in the Files section.
The File Description -
Most of the original messages from the old Yahoo group starting at #1. Edited out the automated monthly messages except for the last one (#137). Will open with Notepad and is searchable. Oldest message is at the top.
VX8r clock resets to 00

 

Been battling with this for some time and just today found out that there is an internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery specifically for the clock.? I have the suspicion that this battery is no longer good (I've had my vx8r many years) and finally needs to be replaced.? I was wondering if anyone in the group has ever tried to replace this battery?? As far as I can tell, it's mounted directly to a PC board (as it looks like in the maintenance manual.

Hope someone can help.

Fixed this with no problems.? Just did a backup of the HT to my desktop using RT Systems VX-8 Programmer, did a factory reset of the HT (Hold Band, HM/RV, TX PO, keys down and power up the HT), then restored the HT using the programmer software.? Worked like a charm.? If you don't have the RT Systems software, CHIRP should work just as well.

?According to the maintenance manual, there is a rechargeble Li-Ion battery just for the clock (as I see it. Not much further info) but rather thab take the radio completely apart just to take a look, I decided on the reset route, which worked.? We`ll see how this goes.? Someone better equipped should look at this battery thing for the clock.

I have dug out my vx7r after years of gathering dust. I always loved this radio, especially the battery life.

Anyway, I am looking to update the programming with the ADMS 1G software from RT Systems. The cable is on the way from HRO and should arrive today. My software version is on a disk and is version 2.32. It is REALLY old. Does anyone know if that is the latest version? RT systems still sells the software, but I don’t want to buy it again, and my serial number is so old that their system doesn’t recognize it.?

Also had any programmed the vx7 using this software on a computer running windows 10?

I contacted them directly and they sold me an updated version at a lower price than new, also for a VX-7R.? As long as you have the original serial number it's practically no issue.

Nora,

My version is 5.00.05. Not sure if that is the latest. I upgraded in 2018. You might have to pay for the latest. I have used it with Windows 10.

I have the newest software, and it does work just fine on win10.

All correct.? My original version didn't even work on Win10, so had to buy new.? Then again, my version was XP variant.? Was surprised they updated it.

VX-7R repairs?

 

Nice to see this list spring back to life.

I was using my VX-7R in my car as a scanner, and it was often hanging on odd channels.? I stopped using it because of that.

I wonder if there is still a service center/dealer that will give the radio a checkout for possible bad components?

Have you tried a factory reset?? My VX-8R was not allowing me to make any changes to menu items.? A reset fixed it.? I used RT Systems software to do a full backup first then restored the data afterwards.

Using as a scanner

I am interested in using it as a scanner, as well. Is it possible to monitor trunked systems in the 800 range? No idea how to program for a trunked system.

No you can not scan trunked systems. At best the VX7r is closer to an analog scanner of the 1980's. It will scan the channles you put in, at a relative slow rate. However, in many areas, such as where I live, this radio works well as a general voverage radio.?

You would be better off using an SDR (like the RTL-SDR) and appropriate software if you want to scan trunked systems.? Start at and work from there.? You'll find all the info you need.

VX-5 Stuck on 144.000 Receive

 

My VX-5 has suddenly gotten stuck on 144.000 MR channel 1. The squelch stays open even if I set it to 15. Turning the dial knob doesn't do anything. I can push the (MR(SKP)SC) key and it will change to MT and i can turn the dial knob to change the frequency. I can push the (VFO(DW)SC) to change to VFO mode and everything seems to work OK. But as soon as I go back to the (MR(SKP)SC) key to returns to 144.000 as mentioned. I tried resetting the microprocessor but that didn't change anything. I also tried resetting the set mode but that didn't do anything either. Anyone have any suggestions.

Beep immediately after pushing the PTT

 

new to the VX-7, does anyone know why my radio?Beeps immediately after pushing the PTT. it doesn't seem to matter what channel i am on or if the channel. is busy or free. It beeps every time i Transmit. everything seems to work just fine, just this damn beep any thoughts?
