Now when I put the unit into goa display mode by pushing menu (I think, going off memory) it just flashed like it can't get a GPS signal. GPS power I believe it's called is turned to on. I'm sure are.lotsnof.settimg but any idea why? Also, can this be fully setup without a cable? I forget the setting i couldn't figure out how to change but one of the text settings it wouldn't allow me to edit any fields.
I also have a FTM-400 and it might be doing the same. That radio is in the shop so might be blocked but it is in the window so I wouldn't think so. The HT was outside with a very clear view up.

VX-8R Clock stuck in 12Hr mode
This worked before I pulled the battery pack then replaced it but now it wont let me set the time in 24 Hr format.? It keeps time and date fine if 12 Hr format, I have no GPS but its set to Manual, GPS Time Zone is UTC +0:00, in Set Mode I follow the manual, changing date, time, and hitting Mode Key till its on Set, then hit the V/M key, it beeps after the V/M key press, then I hit PTT.? If I enter anything in 24 Hr mode it wont except it or reverts to 00:00 if between 13:00 and 24:00.? Is there some setting I’m missing or some procedure to set the format to 24 Hr ?? ? Maybe the internal clock battery is toast but doubt that could cause it to not accept a 24 Hr time format. ? I sent same question to Yaesu as well to see if anyone has a clue. ? Found my VX-8R and accessories when going through a hall closet today, along with a couple Kenwood VHF and UHF commercial dash mount mobiles programmed for 2 meters and 440 MHz - all in like new condition.? They had been locked away in a tupperware container since 2015!? I will want a new battery for sure - can anyone recommend a source?

I put a new battery on it and would like to be able to program it with my RT Systems VX-8D software so that the screen display is less busy.? Is it possible to configure it so that the memory channels display in the top 'A VFO' display and the lower 'B' VFO' is blank?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Re: VX-8DR display options
Just press and hold the A UP button until you hear a beep. The radio will then only display the A VFO. Pressing the B DOWN button will switch to only the B VFO. Press and hold the A UP button again to return to the display with both VFOs visible.

find the parts you need from the PDF at the link below. ?It is an exploded view of the VX-7R with Yaesu part numbers. ?The people I contacted for parts for my VX-8R are b.velarde@...?and? s.fears@.... ?You can add yaesuparts@...?to the email as well. ?Not sure if they are still there. ?Just make a list of parts and email it to them. ?You might want to follow up with a phone call to the parts department as well to make sure they get the email.

I am looking for the discontinued Yaesu FGPS-2 GPS Antenna Unit that attaches the MH-74A7A mic on my VX-8DR. I struck out at Google, eBay, eHam, Ham Radio Outlet, 409 Shop, GigaParts, and DX Engineering. Are there other sites or resources I should search? Does anyone here have a spare FGPS-2 they are willing to sell?

This has always been a dependable unit but for some reason now has an issue.? I can hit our repeater once maybe twice then the frequency display starts flashing and I can no longer transmit.? Battery is good. I am at a loss.? Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks.

Hello Paul, Clyde Lambert KC7BJE here, For programming you need software from RT Systems called "VX-7 Programmer" as well as a Yeasu USB to VX-7R programming cable. The cable is a special cable that screws into the top "mic/spk jack" of the VX-7R for CPU programming. I have attached a copy of the Cheat Sheet for the VX-7R.
You can program the radio from the key pad, but it is a pain in the nick process. Also, do you know which version or country your radio is from. Reason I ask, is if it is USA version, It would have 220 band also. You can find manuals, both operation and tech. As well as info on any mods like "Wide band mod" that opens the transmit and receive for the VX-7R on the "" website I belong to. Hope this helps. Clyde

I have a vx-7r and I am trying to get to the shortwave stations programmed into this transciever. I pressed function-9 (spcl) and select option 5 which is BC Station. However, I am unable to save this option by pressing PTT so I cannot get out of this menu option unless I set the special memory option to off. Has anyone experienced this issue. I would appreciate any insights.?

You're close.? Make sure the vx7r is in single band mode on the A channel.? Then press the MON/F button then SPCL. Select BC and click the PTT.? The clue is to be in single band mode on A. Hope this works 73, Floyd(WD8DUP/DA1VF)?
