Loosing my mind too!

I haven't used my FT60 for quite a while. After reading the latest post I dug it, and that's when I started losing my mind too.
When I press the PTT switch to transmit the radio acts like it is powering on: screen goes blank; radio "beeps;" it lights and displays 7.4V; then it displays the frequency (it's defaulting to 430.000).

I tried the reset: Off > MONI/on > dial ALLRST > press FW and all I get is the same as above.

Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Symptoms of poor battery. See if it does
the same thing at LOW TX Power.

Charge the battery, but most likely the battery will have to be replaced.
A few years back I left mine on the shelf for six months and it did the
same sort of reset on pressing PTT. It took a new battery to stop it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have the battery in the charger and am charging some NiMH AA. I will try them in the adapter battery tray.

Try transmitting at low or medium power. That’s usually plenty for most line of sight repeaters.

W1ZHU:
That's usually an indication the battery is bad or not charged. It has enough power on receive, but not on transsmit.

The manual describes the “low battery” visual indicator, something I rarely see because I tend to park my ht in its desk charger. Maybe I’ll follow the directions from now on and wait for the warning before charging.

Anyway, I hope the warning comes on before you try to transmit! If it doesn’t, that’s like a “no more oil in the crankcase” light.

Thanks everyone. Battery it was. Fully charged NiMH in adapter and problem solved.
Time to shop for a new battery pack.
