How To Boost Scanner Antennas
Scanner antennas receive signals across a wide range of frequencies. Scanner antennas include police scanners, wi-fi scanners, search-and-rescue communication equipment and amateur radio scanners that seek out any signal. Scanner antennas may be used by those who wish to listen in or so that parties like first responders can respond to it. A scanner antenna’s signal reception can be improved by reducing its interference, strengthening its signal, and increasing its sensitivity and range.?
Here is how to do it

I especially enjoyed the suggestion to, "lengthen the antenna in order to capture more rf."

In my rather humble opinion (although involved in VHF comms since 1958) a preamp used for channelized VHF can be a great help.

Not so much so for HF especially on either SSB or AM due to just increasing the overall noise level. Dave J.? ? ? AF0DJ

开云体育Stay away from pre-amps. Not that they don’t work — they do. But, rather, that they amplify everything, including “signal noise”. If you don’t mind THAT, in addition to boosting your incoming signal, then go ahead and get a pre-amp. But you probably won’t be happy with the results.
