Try E-Bay ?I picked one up for Ten bucks?
And it works?

Re: "AA" battery holder?

I've never purchased the cheaper models, but it's been my experience that cheap is usually worth what you pay for it. Generally, I've found cheaper things of poor workmanship that don't last as long as the better made items.

To all that replied to my query, Thank you. I guess I just missed the online Yaesu FBA-25 info.

I further noticed there are several much cheaper copies available online by that model number. I don't mind the HRO price, in fact I'll probably go with them, but I'm curious: Has anyone bought the cheaper models and how about their experience with them? Maybe others would like to know if they worked OK and held up.

I show a YAESU FBA-25 battery case on the HRO site, for $18.95, and available at all HRO stores.? It's suitable for the FT-60R, plus some other Yaesu ratios

Hello Petr,

Go to the Panasonic Eneloop website here:
The Pro is more expensive than the standard version.

Bob,

it is not as simple as it seems at first glance with Panasonic Enelop cells.?

There are different p/n codes on the market available like BK-3HCBE, BK-3HCCE or BK-3HCDE even BK-3HCDE/4BE and BK-3H DE/4CP but I did not find differences in sellers descriptions…?
Some pics of the blisters says 2500mAh, another one says 2450mAh, next one says nothing but it is not visible which p/n code it is.?

I believe some difference must be between all of them but it is mess around it.?

Even more, the price difference between them (BK-3HCBE, BK-3HCCE or BK-3HCDE) is 20%!

Do you have some details about these cells please??

Hello Arthur,

Definitely a faulty battery.
As others have said, you can pick up a replacement FNB-83 from your favourite Yaesu reseller or from most of the online sellers, Ebay, etc.
But remember, these are NiMH batteries with significant self discharge, so they need to be charged at least every 3 months.

You might also consider buying the FBA-25A 6 x AA Alkaline cell battery adaptor. These take six standard AA alkaline cells.
This is handy as you can pick up AA alkalines almost anywhere if you get caught with a faulty charger or forget to take it with you:-)

If you fit low self discharge Panasonic Eneloop NiMH cells, you always have an emergency backup if your normal Yaesu NiMH battery goes flat.
The Eneloop cells come in standard (white - 1900mAhr) and Pro (black - 2550mAHr) versions. The Pro versions have a higher capacity but lower cycle count.
Both versions come in a 4 pack blister pack and a 4 pack plus charger blister pack.
I like the Panasonic charger as it has an inbuilt 13 hour time out timer which turns off the charge if you forget to turn the charger off yourself.
But you don't have to use the Panasonic charger, you can use any good quality NiMH charger including 12V car chargers.

The Eneloop cells will hold their charge much longer than standard NiMH cells, including the standard Yaesu FNB-83 battery.
That said, it is worth doing a top up charge every 6 - 12 months.

Most wall warts do not have enough amperage to transmit with. Your battery is more than likely bad and you might not be using the right charger for the type of battery used?

Art,

?

You have it correct. The battery is probably does not have enough reserve to transmit.? Not a real problem.? If you can’t get a replacement battery from Yaesu, you can get one from Batteries America or another 3rd party seller.

?

There are ways of testing the battery, but if it is old, it is probably not worth the trouble or the cost of an external unit.

?

The wall wart will not provide enough current to transmit.? You generally can get a 12 v car adapter to plug into the power socket, and with a 12 V power supply with a 12v socket (or of course, your car) or a 12v to bare wires could be used to connect to a 12 v supply.

Re: Power issue.

First scenario - Yes, insufficient voltage to operate radio.

What voltage does the display show when charging the battery pack?

"Generic" desk charger? Model, manufacturer?

DigiRig for any digital app eg. APRSDroid or WoAD on Android Tablet or a Windows Platform

I'm spinning my wheels trying to get my Digirig up and running on my FT60.? I'm looking for any simple VHF software platform that would be a good "proof of concept" to just get anything up and running.

I've got the FT60, a Digirig,? both FT60 connection cables plus an OTG MicroUSB cord to connect the USB cord to my Android tablet.? I'm kitted out, but can't seem to get the TX function to work.? RX is fine.

Even something like a race-results reporter using FLDIGI.? I just need a single, simple success to perk up my spirits.

If anyone has a suggestion, and a successful set of software settings -? including for SoundModem -? I'd like to find something to copy.? I'm not digi-technical, but I can follow instructions.?

My ideal would be a setup that could make ARPSDroid and/or WoAD work for light field communication.? I'd like to be able to TEXT or E-mail my wife when I'm in remote areas where cell phones have no coverage.

I'm all ears,

Kevin, VE7KHI

Re: Lithium DIY Re: [Yaesu-FT-60] FT-60R replacement battery

Good solution also.? I love a good project. Yes, mine has some advantages but all the solutions I have seen here have good and bad.? I hated using the cradle. I have seen a different variation from another person on Thingiverse also.? There are many creative people out there proving that there is more than one way to just about anything. DIY is often not as good as store bought and sometimes more expensive but there is some satisfaction out of completing a good alternative project.

HI Marty,
Thanks for posting about this!? I used the original case and flat Li-Po cells and enjoy longer battery life and less mass.? See post "HB battery pack using Li-po cells".? Your solution using removable cells has a big advantage because you don't need to modify the battery's charger or make another one.? Just take the cells out, put them in the charger, and put charged ones in.? If you're on a long outing, you just bring along a couple extra freshly-charged cells.

Hopefully Ray has gotten this sorted out by now. Just in case though, I'm attaching a photo to show where "Use Alternate Write Mode" is located in FT-60.

As shown in the photo, you can check/uncheck it from the Transfer menu.? Hope this helps.
