Hello Arthur,

Definitely a faulty battery.
As others have said, you can pick up a replacement FNB-83 from your favourite Yaesu reseller or from most of the online sellers, Ebay, etc.
But remember, these are NiMH batteries with significant self discharge, so they need to be charged at least every 3 months.

You might also consider buying the FBA-25A 6 x AA Alkaline cell battery adaptor. These take six standard AA alkaline cells.
This is handy as you can pick up AA alkalines almost anywhere if you get caught with a faulty charger or forget to take it with you:-)

If you fit low self discharge Panasonic Eneloop NiMH cells, you always have an emergency backup if your normal Yaesu NiMH battery goes flat.
The Eneloop cells come in standard (white - 1900mAhr) and Pro (black - 2550mAHr) versions. The Pro versions have a higher capacity but lower cycle count.
Both versions come in a 4 pack blister pack and a 4 pack plus charger blister pack.
I like the Panasonic charger as it has an inbuilt 13 hour time out timer which turns off the charge if you forget to turn the charger off yourself.
But you don't have to use the Panasonic charger, you can use any good quality NiMH charger including 12V car chargers.

The Eneloop cells will hold their charge much longer than standard NiMH cells, including the standard Yaesu FNB-83 battery.
That said, it is worth doing a top up charge every 6 - 12 months.

I just "inhereted'? an FT-60r from a SK estate. just the radio. Picked up a generic desk charger, charged it up, and tried to hit a local repeater. Radio started fine , but went off, then restarted as soon as i tried to transmit. I think I know the answer to this before I ask. Is it the Battery? It charged awful fast. How to I check the battery? By the way, it exhibits the same behavior when plugging the wall wart into the radio itself. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. Greatly.
