Remember, you need to read from the radio before you can write to it.? You don't need to write the same file you read, but you do need to read first or you'll get an error.? I don't recall if the error you got is that one.
So I was trying update and make changes to my frequency list in RT systems and I'm getting the following error (does anyone have any ideas):
Communication error:? The information in the radio does not match that of the file.? Click OK for more information about this error.? (When I click OK nothing happens).? Click Cancel to cancel and try again.
Stupid question:? is there a way to just clear the radio and start over?

I found several queries within the group looking for this info, but
none of the replies stated it.
The USB-Serial Bridge driver sets up a default value but I don't
know if the programming software, CHIRP in this case, can actually
change these settings.
CHIRP does know the comm settings for each radio. So far I have only
read my FT-60, it will be interesting to have a look at my Chinese
radios and see if they are different.
Part of the reason I had to do this was because of the recessed
MIC/SP socket on the FT-60 stopping the programming plug mating
correctly in the socket.
This gave me multiple "read" failures, so I started looking for comm
settings. It was while looking for the comm settings that I found
Hugh's article.
I've always used purpose-specific software (i.e., not CHIRP) to
program my Yaesu handhelds but I have used CHIRP to program some
cheap Chinese radios.
I haven't made any programming changes to my cheap Chinese
radios with CHIRP for quite some time (except for a
recently-added Quansheng) but I don't recall ever needing to
know the communications settings such as you presented.? It's as
if CHIRP already knows this information based on the mfr and
model number of the radio.
It's curious to me that you needed to do this.

They work. I was able to read the radio. Haven't tried an upload
yet but I am sure all is now sorted out.
Here are the settings
Baud: 9600
Data Bits: 8
Stop Bits: 1
Parity: None
Flow Control: None
Hope this helps some other hapless soul out there:-)
PS: I bought an JiYKR / WakeSnow 8-in-1 Programming Cable from a
supplier in Australia.
It will program most commonly available Japanese and Chinese and
some Motorola radios. They are readily available on the net.
NOTE: I had to file the end of the plastic connector body down
to 6mm diameter to fit fully into the recessed "MIC/SP" socket
on the radio.
Thanks to Hugh Burnham M0WYE for the socket "heads up" in his
article "Connecting a Microphone and Loudspeaker to the Yaesu

Hello Mark,
I finally got brave and decided to do an F1 SETRST.
That has fixed the problem:-)
I was very reluctant to do any level of reset before backing the
radio up as I have a LOT of stuff programmed into the radio.
But now that I can program my FT-60R from the keyboard again, I will
try to make up an adapter cable for one of my other genuine Prolific
cables for another radio and use Chirp to back it up. And to tidy up
the programming whilst I am at it.
Thanks to all who responded. And to KG7MQL for his great treatise on

And yes, I know how to do it. I have had the radio for
many, many years and recently tried to set up another
bank for a special event.
The radio will no longer accept any manual programming.
I can't find a "Program Lockout" SET function.
I read somewhere that the memory programming either gets
corrupted or the memory chip programming capability goes
faulty.
And that the system firmware cannot be rewritten via the
normal programming port the way modern radios can. (FW
in Masked ROM???)
Otherwise the radio works fine. I can use existing
memory locations and Banks just fine and VFO operation
is fine.
I just can't program new channels or Banks.
Haven't tried Chirp.
I am reluctant to to use any of the F1-F4 Memory Clear
functions in case the Memory Write function is, in fact,
unusable as I have an awful lot of channels
preprogrammed.
Does anyone have any experience in this regard?
