Beep-beep-beep when transmitting
We are experimenting with using simplex frequencies for our local ARES
group. Tonight we had three members who use the FT-60 have a beep-beep-beep... when transmitting. It's not the Wires beep. Any ideas what causes this? Thanks Phill KF7SJK -- Phill Vanderschaegen Madras, OR KF7SJK |
Re: Primary transmit channel when scanning
开云体育The radio transmits on the memory channel that is currently displayed.? There is no designated transmit channel. When scanning and you hear something you want to reply to, briefly
press the PTT.? The radio will stop scanning and you will
transmit on the displayed channel (next time you press PTT). 73, Nick, AA3T Sent from our laptop On 6/3/2017 1:05 AM,

Primary transmit channel when scanning
I've tried searching here and the manual but need a hand finding an answer.? How do I set a primary transmit channel?? Say I am scanning but want to transmit only on a specific channel, is there a way to set that?
Second follow up.? Say I am scanning again, is there an easy way to transmit back on the received channel?? I've set the home channel, but if I am monitoring 2 channels what is the best way to make sure I reply back on the correct freq? 73 Sean KG7JVU |
Re: Using Banks with the RT Systems software
I'm with Joe,
Mine is set up for the areas of the country where I travel.
1 is for local at home
2 is for New England?
3 is for Florida
4 is for MARS channels
2 and 3 above include Coast Guard and most used Maritime frequencies for their ares.?
2 uses more maritime frequencies for the fishing and charter boat businesses and local fire department
3 the maritime frequencies are for the larger ports that handle container ships, yachts, and coastal channels.
All fun stuff.

Re: Using Banks with the RT Systems software
You are right . . . that's the way to do it.
When the RTSystems application is opened, it looks like a spreadsheet where you enter frequencies, tone, etc.? Over on the right side of the spreadsheet are columns titled Bank 1, Bank 2, etc., etc.? If you want a freq to be on, say, Bank 3, check the Bank 3 box for that freq. I have my FT-60 set up for: Bank 1:? Local repeaters and simplex freqs Bank 2:? All 144 repeater freqs Bank 3:? All 432 repeater freqs Bank 4:? Local public service freqs (sheriff, fire, rescue, Coast Guard, etc.) Bank 5:? SaudiSat SO-51 split freq operation. Bank 6:? Something, I forget. Joe W4HH |
Re: Using Banks with the RT Systems software
I do not use CHIRP for my FT-60 but have down loaded it to chirp in case I would like to at some later date.? Chirp does support BANKS for the FT-60, and selecting frequencies to banks is done in much the same way as explaned by WN6WJN for his RT systems software, or for the FTB60 software from G4HFQ software (http://www.g4hfq.co.uk/)? that I use.? Just look at the left side of the chirp screen.? You should see 3 "tabs" MEMORY. BANKS, & SETTINGS.? Just select the banks tab, then your frequencies can be selected to banks by checking boxes on the displayed screen.

Using Banks with the RT Systems software
Hi Mark
I saw your message: "I HAVE the RT Systems (ADMS) software, but I haven’t seen that I can do “banks”." I think the way you use the Banks feature in the RT System software is by placing a check mark in the column Bank 1 for all the frequencies you want to be "added" to Bank 1. Then if you want other frequencies to be "added" to Bank 2, then you will place the check mark for these frequencies in the column under Bank 2, and then you can "add" frequencies by placing check marks under the columns for all remaining banks. This way you tell the RT System to tell the radio to "group" these frequencies into the banks you designated. I hope this helps. If anyone has any corrections, please go right ahead. 73 Wassim WN6WJN Sent from a device that appears to "work"? |

Re: Is there a good explanation on how to use Yaesu Memory banks?
Wow!!!! You (this group) are GREAT! I have read the manual about the memory banks but I think part of the problem is I'm new to ham radio and I don't know the lingo. I did get some valuable tips from you. I especially liked the one about using the first channel as the name of the bank. That is a great idea that I would never have thought of.?
My city, Sunnyvale, is having a training meeting next week and I am hoping to get some hands on help from people there.? Another issue I have is that I have a Mac (don't boo me!) and I am finding that many of the programs are PC only. I do have a raspberry pi that I am going to load wine on which is supposed to be able to run some windows program without actually having windows (although I do have an un-opened copy of windows 7). I am trying to talk my husband into letting me load some windows ham programs on one of his computers. (We'll see how that goes). I have been using Chirp on my Mac. I am planning on going to the field day in June and if I don't have it figured out by then I may be able to get some guidance there.? Thank you so much for all your great suggestions, Joy KM6IFL |

开云体育Don't forget that banks can be linked,? Thus, you could scan bank 2 AND bank 5 at the same time. 73, Nick, AA3T Sent from our laptop On 5/8/2017 12:48 PM, Mark Lassman

Re: Is there a good explanation on how to use Yaesu Memory banks?
开云体育I HAVE the RT Systems (ADMS) software, but I haven’t seen that I can do “banks”. I just have them in “hundreds” for each type of service: 001-100 “City Fire”, 101-200 “County Fire”, etc..No, it doesn’t make for a “great” scanner, but certainly an adequate one, so long as you don’t need P25 or trunking. I’ll look at the manual, as you suggest, to see what it has about “banks”.

Re: Is there a good explanation on how to use Yaesu Memory banks?
Ray
Umm.. That is incorrect.? The FT-60 has up to 10 memory banks, or groups. See page 33 of the manual for details. And they are made for essentially exactly what you are trying to do. You would create a master bank with cross-populated memories, and then individual banks for each municipality or jurisdiction you wish to have separated.? But, you can achieve sort of the same thing just segregating your channels in a single bank too, which is what most people do. It's not like the FT-60 makes for a good scanner. And it is single receive only. You are only operating on a single channel at any given time. But... that is totally up to you. Your radio, and your organization. You will figure it out. And as soon as you have it all programmed in there, and use a it a few times, you will probably decide to change it around again anyway - just like the rest of us. ?:) I do not recall if CHIRP supported the memory banks. You may want to get something like RTS software if you really want to move things around and fully utilize the memory banks. Ray? ------ Original Message ------

Re: Is there a good explanation on how to use Yaesu Memory banks?
Chirp can definitely arrange channels
into memories, I group them into regions that I travel to.? One
thing I like to do is place a "dummy" channel at the beginning of
each memory group, with a regional name to identify the group.

Re: Is there a good explanation on how to use Yaesu Memory banks?
开云体育The FT60 does not use "memory banks". There are 999 memory "channels", not separated by "banks", as older scanners used to be.? On May 7, 2017, at 9:20 PM, doghouse3@... [FT-60] <FT-60@...> wrote:
