Re: No one hears me
Look at the "S" meter when you push the PTT, like someone else said. Your battery may not be able to take the load of transmit.
I had the same problem and found that I had burned up my OEM battery pack by over-charging and so my battery could not support the load of transmitting. Don't leave it on the OEM wall-wart charger as you will quickly burn up the battery since it is not a "smart" charger.? |
Re: No one hears me
When I start up the radio, it shows 7.4 volts. Don't I have to wait until the low battery symbol comes on before recharging, to avoid damaging the battery? Judy On Saturday, April 15, 2017 8:30 PM, "Jardy Dawson JARDY72@... [FT-60]"

Does the display blank out when you hit the PTT? ?If so, your battery needs charging. When you turn on the radio, it should display around 8.4 volts. Do NOT have it on any chargers when you do this. Hoping for advice. I can program the radio for repeaters, and yes set the tone as needed. I hear everyone else just fine. But when I push PTT, I get the 3-tone startup sound and no one hears me. All they get is dead air.? There's no WiRES icon visible.? I refer to Page 64 a lot - where the factory reset instructions are. I reset and reprogrammed 2 repeaters again today, and still nothing. Suggestions? Many thanks, Judy KF7DBN |

Re: No one hears me
What is your battery voltage?? Do you have any other chargers or cables connected to the FT-60 when you are trying to transmit? Pressing PTT and having the radio reboot (the three tone startup beep) usually means insufficient voltage, either because the battery is low, dead, or an external power supply with insufficient current is plugged in (like the wall wart charger).

Re: Beep when transmitting
WIRES is on. If so, there is a small atom symbol in the upper right corner of the display. To turn it off, momentarily touch the 0 key.

FNB-V67Li... Other Lithium alternatives
In my opinion, 2000mAh Lithium is pretty lame when compared to the radio's default capacity. I decided to build one myself after realizing how much it was going to cost me to convert to Vertex's Li-ion battery plus charger. ?I used unprotected NCR18650b cells, which provide me with about 6 days of use on a single charge. The only thing I have to watch for is the discharge voltage. It is not good for the Li cells to run the pack down below 6V. With protected cells, the discharge voltage cut off is at about 3V per cell, so no worries there. On my next build, I plan to use a protected 2S?Li-po with the proper dimensions to fix in the standard case to maintain water protection. Here is a good how-to for those interested on building or converting old battery packs to Li-ion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfAkIUUxPXk I recommend these protected 3400mAh 18650 batteries(beware of cheap knock-offs) https://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-NCR18650B-3400mAh-Protected-Batteries/dp/B00NUI47OY Safety first... http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/archive/lithium_ion_safety_concerns |

Hello, I'm trying to locate a Lithium battery for the FT-60 (and FT-270). Is the FNB-v67Li discontinued ? Most ham radio shops don't carry it. Are you aware of any online shops in Europe where i could find this battery ? ? p.s. Is there any other Lithium battery that will fit the FT-60 ? p.s.2 I allready have the charger needed for the lithium battery. |
