Hey All

Has anyone put together a list of all the menu items of the radio, what you see on the screen, what the menu item means, what it controls, what default value it has, what values it could have?

If this exist can you point me to it, and if it does not then I shall start this project because I think it's a worthwhile handy educational and training tool.

If you are looking to listen to the military aircraft look at radio reference we site. ?I searched for Blue Angels frequencies and a large list popped up.
There are normally list of air show frequencies in magazine on communications.?
As for the civilian flight teams, as mentioned before check the listings for the local airports.?

Hi Chris,
In the manual on P40 it describes a feature called Programmable Band Limit Memory Scan (PMS).

I think that is what you want.

Hi Chris:

It would be easiest if you can find the frequencies the airport/air show uses, and save those as a group in one of the ten banks the FT-60 has available. Then you just have to scan the bank and those particular frequencies. That would save time scanning unused frequencies, and let you hear more of the action.

Google listed almost a dozen frequencies used at CYQR, my local airport. "Private" frequencies for Air Canada, and smaller companies at the airport, plus the Arrival, Departure, and Ground frequencies were easy to find. There are also NavCanada frequencies in use here, as well as Shell's fuelling state, and the airport fire frequencies (with the signal I get from the Fire radios, I can only assume they are putting out LOTS of power.) Phrasing the search terms differently gave some very interesting hits.

Enjoy the show, and those awesome Red Arrows!

Saving frequencies is one of the easier tasks in this marvellous radio. Even I can do it. :)

You may refer to the manual (the PDF version in my iPad is usually faster to find than the paper manual that came with the radio); you'll especially want to visit pages 28, 33, and 35.

Sent with the assistance of Morse Code, slide rule, and abacus.

Re: Ft60 problem

I sent my unit back to the factory to have an intermittent speaker problem repaired, and I also went over the squelch issue with them and asked them to look into it.? When I got the unit back, the speaker issue was fixed, but not the squelch issue.? I decided to wait a while before sending it back to see if it was interference, wifi, etc., but no matter where I use my unit, I end up putting the squelch to max to prevent the annoying static and noise I get on 70cm mostly, but also on 144.? It is so annoying that I now rarely use the FT-60 and instead use my Baofeng.? The mention of a varactor problem by KC0OEB?(after all this time) has peaked my interest, so I am going to send it back to Yaesu and see if they will try again to get this repaired.? Otherwise it is the junk heap, and I will try another brand HT.

Is there a short? Is the battery old? Is the battery normal temperature? What are you using to charge the battery?

Re: No Tx,unless just off the charger

Hey Jerry

Before we panic, give the battery a full charge and try again. As you know the transmitter needs a certain voltage, like something more than 6.9V, to be delivered to it before it can function. Anything less and it will shut down.

Now losing memory settings, that is a different thing but, in a way, it also can be related to a low battery.

So let's get this battery juiced up and topped up and let's test again. It also could be a failing battery, so that should tell us.

Borrowed a battery to try and not sure how good the battery is,Now will tx fine buz. SGuess you can't believe what you see HI ,TKS, 73 Jerry W8KQ

Can only tx ,from right off the charger. Hour later,it says no freqs,or something like that. Not sure if it is simple ,or more involved. Had something like this happen to a ft2600,which was plugged into the lighter in the car, while car was off. 1 sec and the mems were gone. Reloaded off the computer, when I got home and was ok ?? Any thoughts ?? TKS,en73 ,Jerry W8KQ

"A friend of mine who is out in Spain paragliding"

Has your friend landed? I do not advise repairing a radio in flight ?

It sounds to me that maybe the keypad has gone bad? Do any of the keys function??

Can he use some instrument like a pencil to make sure the keys are being pressed and that they are making contact to the internal assembly?

What was he/she doing before/after this happened? It states that a factory reset did not clear the issue, but how about removing the battery and any power source for a while and see if any short clears it self.

I don't know what is really happening its a bizarre behavior to say the least, but maybe some capacitor is overloaded and malfunctioning?!

Ask and come back to us with theses answers. Oh and is this altitude related or is it happening on the ground to?
