Re: Keep FT-60 on Standby ?

I am sorry - I ?meant no disrespect .

>> ,,,?"It is not good for the battery to operate the radio, and be charging at the same time."

The only thing that having the FT-60 on while charging is that is will take longer for the battery to charge.?

And it has nevre been advised to TX while charging: If you do with a low battery, you might get out, but our chargers lack sufficient amperage to TX, plus they are not filtered, resulting in a nasty AC hum on your signal.

But leaving ON to monitor while charging cannot harm the radio,

Re: Programming from FT-7800 to FT-60

James Craft

You have to export the FT-7800 data as tab delimited, then import it to the FT-60 programmer. The software should organize the file when imported. The reason for this is that the FT-60 has different features than the 7800 (hyper memories, etc.) and some things won't cross over without doing a proper export/import.

Re: Programming from FT-7800 to FT-60

I have a FT7900 and FT60, and the RT systems software for each. All I had to to was, literally, “copy and paste” from one into the other. Worked perfectly. Not sure why this is an issue, unless the FT7800 worked differently from the FT7900.

RT Systems needs to hear this question loud and clear. I have the same combo of radios and RT Systems
software and hardware for both. I struggled with the same issue. I had the good fortune to see them
at a Pacificon and they showed me how to do what you ask. It isn't too complicated but also isn't
well explained or intuitive. I don't really remember all of the steps.

My bottom line response is really - take this question to RT Systems - they do respond to questions.
While chirp may work, it is just different and will introduce more issues with data structure conversion
and "loss" in translating the data from one format to another.

Are you:

1.Saving the 7800 file in the software.

2. Connect the FT60 and download the radio template

3. Give that file a new name.

4. Import the 7800 data to this new file

5. Upload the file to the FT-60

The experts will correct me but I've found that the RT software likes to download from a particular 60 before it will recognize it for an upload.?

Hey Clint

You took one snippet of my message and dissected it out of context.

The moral of the story is what I said after the quoted part: "It is not good for the battery to operate the radio, and be charging at the same time."

Now do you agree or disagree with this part of my reply?

I had similar problems when I first tried to use FT-60 Commander. The solution was to go on the transfer menu and select the Alternate Write Method.

If your cable shows to be a Prolific, roll your driver back to 3.2.0.0. You can find this at . Make sure you use the same USB port each time.?

Re: cable for chirp

When I got the FT-60R, my first radio, someone told me about FT-60 Commander. I've been using that piece of software now for nearly 2 years. It works fine, but does have one oddity. Occasionally, it will switch comports for unknown reasons. The first time it happened, it took me a while to figure it out. It's done that one additional time since then, but it's an easy fix so, at most it's at minor irritation. The problem with peers to occur after Windows updates. Go figure.?

Re: cable for chirp

Hi Chris,
?I was just looking at one of these on ebay.? I have one somewhere but looks to have been lost in my many moves... The one on ebay is most certainly a knock-off but you should be okay if you use the driver that comes with it and restrict Windows from trying to update it.
USD cost is 9.99 Irish Pound is 7.11? See if they will ship to you, if not, then I'm willing to help you out and get one to you.? You can look me up on and maybe we can schedule a contact also on HF or on the local IRLP repeaters.

Best of luck to you!

The eneloops in the FBA-25s worked in both the old radio and new one. However, the new radio is very tight with the eneloops and only tight with the alkalines. The old radio is comfortable with either. Given how well the radio is doing for us with the factory rechargeable and how little we use VHF/UHF, I think we’re just going to stick with the alkalines for backup. We have 38 left after filling the 2 battery trays.

Re: New vs Old

Poswerswerx/Maha 2500 and 2700 mAH AA NiMH cells fit perfectly in every FBA-25 I own - from 2004 to last month's models of FBA-25 packs.

Make sure you feel the "click as you press in the positive tip on each cell. I have yourcombination in a couple FBA-25 on FT-60R units - all is well.
