Re: New vs Old
My impression - I had a Older one for 8 years - loved it - liked the ability to charge AA Nimh packs - thats all I used for that one. Final went out 2 years ago. Other than that feature my feeling is

Re: New vs Old
Wonderful news, guys. Thanks much for the input. I¡¯m gonna pull the trigger on a new one. Since my old Icom T7H died, I¡¯ve been stuck with an IC-91AD D-Star I won¡ and an oven mitt to use it,

Re: New vs Old

Re: New vs Old
I understand the big difference is in the language you've got to use when giving it voice commands. Mandaran is a whole lot harder to learn than Nihongo. ?Grin. AF0DJ.

Re: New vs Old
I believe the radios themselves are still made in Japan. Batteries are made in China.

New vs Old
I've loved my wife's now 5 year old FT-60R so much, I'm thinking about buying one for myself. Hers is made in Japan. I've heard the new ones are now made in China and aren't the same/as good as as the

Re: antanna for vehicle
I just started this hobby and now have a few HT. After reading reviews I pick up a magnetic mount "Tram 1185" about $23. If I had a mobile unit, I would have installed a permanent mobile mount.

Re: antanna for vehicle
What is your call sign? You have to have a Federal Licence. Go to Diamond or Comet antennas and look at their antennas.

Re: Keep FT-60 on Standby ?
Got a source for that statement? Leaving a FT-60R ON in its drop-in charger will not harm the battery. It will take it a little longer to fully charge, but no harm will come t the battery nor radio.

Re: Keep FT-60 on Standby ?
Hey Ed Yes it is possible to keep the radio on or in a charger. BUT it may damage the battery and/or the radio. It is not good for the battery to operate the radio, and be charging at the same time.

Keep FT-60 on Standby ?
I have been asked if it possible to keep the FT-60 on standby by nesting it into the wall charger except when the unit is actually removed for use ? Ed Ansell K6EOA

Re: FT-60R what is the pressure switch in the battery compartment
I charged off the shelf NiMH cells that way for many years, never a problem at all. The AA pack was great that way. No days I dont use it much because I have to take the cells out to charge. Wish I

Re: FT-60R what is the pressure switch in the battery compartment
Although we CAN perform that battery tray "mod," I am not sure we SHOULD ...(grin) If we purchase inexpensive or sub-par NiMH cells and charge them on the radio and they leak, we have not only voided

Re: FT-60R what is the pressure switch in the battery compartment
John, You will note that the contact in the radio lines up with the exposed end of the bottom battery in the rechargeable packs. In the older FT-60's that could be charged via a wall wart, it

Re: Digest Number 3299
That is the charge sense line that tells the radio that a rechargeable battery is attached. ?It contacts the edge of the bottom battery. ?The AA battery pack is insulated from this so it won't try

Re: FT-60R what is the pressure switch in the battery compartment
It's not a switch, it's a contact that is used to charge the battery if you connect it to the charger (or power supply).

FT-60R what is the pressure switch in the battery compartment
In the battery compartment about 1/4 inch in from the lower left corner (Battery removed) there is a spring up device. This is not one of the end contacts. What is the purpose of this feature? Is it a
