Re: got it!
James, I found a lot of useful information at winsystem.org. The nearest repeater is 10 miles away and I will check them out today. Thanks! 73, Rick KG7MQL Sent: Tuesday,

Re: not very exciting start
I figured out my mistake. Although I set up to generate a tone and did set the tone's frequency correctly, I did not save those settings correctly. That is all straightened out now (I think). But

Re: Repeater question
Kelly, That makes sense. South Mountain is north of me and all of those repeaters have a heading of north. 73 Rick KG7MQL Sent: Tuesday, June 17, 2014 9:22 PM To:

Re: not very exciting start
Mark, When I took my test, all of the VEs were rather old. But those taking the tests were all in their 30s to 60s. So there is hope that the "no code" change is bringing in a new crop of

Re: not very exciting start
Correct. Though not technically wrong, calling "CQ" is not generally done when using repeaters.

Re: Repeater question
Any repeater lookup source is only as accurate as the information that is reported to it.?I know of some where the repeater was?taken down,?moved or the tone changed and the owner hadn't reported

Sorry thats 146.52 for the simplex freq. Dang phone keyboard!

Re: not very exciting start
You may want to try either calling with your callsign on simplex 246.52 (there are many people that listen there) or try checking in to the superstition drivetime net at 7am on weekday mornings. Im

Re: not very exciting start
There is no ¡°correct¡±, but commonly you would say ¡°AE8P listening¡±. Substitute your call for AE8P. CQ is more commonly used on HF radio and not 2 meters or 440. Jack, ae8p

Re: not very exciting start
It's not common to say "CQ" on repeaters, just say your call sign and that you are listening, like Larry said. I simply say, "W5ETA, listening", it's also common to say, "W5ETA, mobile" (when you are

Re: Repeater question
Hi Rick. I've used repeaterbook.com too. It's a great place to start. Just beware sometimes it's not 100% accurate. I was in the Santa Fe area recently and was looking for an IRLP node and found a

Re: not very exciting start
Rick, yes, that's perfect. It's just that you don't hear CQ on 2m very often. I'm not sure how or when or why it evolved that way. Maybe it's time to revive CQ on 2m! - Larry W5EIT [FT-60]

Re: got it!
I¡¯m sorry. After I realized I sent the wrong link (it¡¯s win system.org, not winsys.org), I just now noticed that it had already been posted. Sorry for the error and for the repetition.

Re: not very exciting start
It's funny how CQ is common everywhere else, but not on 2m. I typically do something like "This is W5EIT listening on six-four", where "six-four" is the repeater output frequency (as in 04/64) or

Jack, I first said CQ 3 times and followed it with my call sign. Isn't that correct? Rick KG7MQL

Re: not very exciting start
I don¡¯t believe doing CQ on 2 meters is normal practice. Try to ID with your call sign and see if anyone responds. Jack, ae8p
