Please add to what we know.
The RayOVac IC3 batteries AA are 2000 mAH NiMH fit in the FBA-25.
Must be
removed to charge in the 15 Minute IC Charger. The IC charger comes
in 2
models. PS5 - charges 2 batteries at a time (total time 15 minutes),
AA,
AAA or the PS6 - 4 batteries and can be ordered with an optional
cable to
use charger in car (or other 12 volt source).
The FBA-25 can be connected to the radio while external power is
supplied.
Batteries will not be charged (bypassed). So great for going from
portable
(walking, biking, swimming) to mobile. I outfitted all my gear with
powerpoles and the power jack for the radio is radio shack 274-1532 -
coax-style DC Power Plug 4.0mm O.D. 1.7mm Solder Terminals or if you
just
want ready made right angel plug with pigtail the get Radio Shack
size "B".
Want to run on external power at home. Found a $20 regulated supply
MW122A.
2 AMP Regulated DC Power Supply (115 volt in), terminates with banana
jack,
made pigtail to powerpoles. Again, I plug it in with FBA-25 loaded
with
IC3. Keep mine bedside and run a couple of radios simultaneously.
Got mine
at a Hamfest from John . Front
switchable
between 3-4.5-6-7.5-9-12 volts. Disclaimer; I don't work for John,
just
find him a knowledgeable and pleasant guy. And that may be a hamfest
price!
With supplied antenna I work Austrial (IRLP) bedside! Hi hi. In the
shack
powerpole it to my Astron to monitor my 706. Suggestion, if you want
to
hook it up to your shack antenna that terminates in PL259 get an sma
to
pigtail to PL259 female. (HS-05 NCG).
Need a better antenna. MFJ 1717 (terminates in BNC) - Specs - 2/440
HIGH
GAIN. Is it better? Should be!!!!!! Complaints for going portable
with
standard antenna - none. Fits in pants pocket with minimal injury to
groin
or belly and fits in swim bag for pool side QSOs.
DO you want to use a headset? Get CT-44, plug headphones in to larger
(standard) of the two jacks.
What else!? Bring it on. What a versatile radio for $200. That's a
couple
of three grocery bills and fill ups at the pump. It ain't no 706!
But the
programming and scanning versatility is better!
