Personally, I’d rather have it the way it is than to be loose and flimsy. This is just one of the features that makes the FT-60 that much better than some of the newer radios. It LOOKS old-school and it FEELS old-school, because it IS.?
OK, not as old-school as the old Icom O2, but you know what I mean.

Without the tight latch, there would not be enough compression of the seal. It's a holdover from the basic LMR design of the radio where the radios would be recharged frequently on a desk charger and the battery would rarely need to be removed.
