Well, I did pick up a second pack for this radio, but honestly,
the first one lasts so long I may not use it often. ?

The battery latch is
intentionally tight. There is a water seal around the
perimeter of the battery that's designed to keep moisture and
dust out of the radio. Without the tight latch, there would
not be enough compression of the seal. It's a holdover from
the basic LMR design of the radio where the radios would be
recharged frequently on a desk charger and the battery would
rarely need to be removed. It is not the most convenient
design for users who have the AA pack or swap batteries
frequently.
