42 years for a dry joint from manufacturing to cause a problem!
Well, we all know that dry joints are caused by the joint not being heated enough when the joint is being formed. However, this one took 42 years to cause trouble!

Sorry for the typos,... sausage fingers.
slop ring was supposed to be SLIP RING and VFO know as supposed to be VFO
KNOB.
You just hold the slip ring while rotating the VFO knob to get the 100KHz

trouble if you mess with either of those trimmer caps in the VFO compartment

I can't find anything listed anywhere but it looks like TC1 adjustment
trimmer cap in the VFO should do it. I would note the position of the cap
before moving it so if you need to return it
