Re: FT-101 deaf above 40m
Carl, The 20m oscillator xtal X3 (20.02 MHZ) on the heterodyne crystal oscillator board may be bad. Regards, Tony VA7TF VE7ACF Sent: April 15, 2023 6:50 AM To:

Re: FT-101 deaf above 40m
Well I’m still no further with this. Every band working but for 20 meters. When transmitting a carrier at 14.250 on the 101s display my SDR showed the signal at 9.320. So I presume that’s where

Re: FT-101 deaf above 40m
Thanks Rob I’ll do that. I’ve managed to get every band working now other than 20 meters which will not align at all. In fact I’m hearing LSB signals around 14:400 and FT8 at 14:450ish! Could

Re: FT-101 deaf above 40m
Another thing is to take photos of each of the boards before you start so you have a reference plus only change one at a time making sure of the polarity.?That way you should not go wrong.? All the

Re: FT-101 deaf above 40m
It may be advisable to change the electrolytic capacitors. This can fix a lot of issues without having to realign. You have cleaned the band switch which is another common problem. Don't worry too

Re: FT-101 deaf above 40m
Well I’ve received the 101 today. The first job I did was to spray all the crackly pots including the band wafer. I’ve got 15m working so far. 20m is way way off frequency. I hear FT8 signals

FT-101 deaf above 40m
Hi all, new to the group. I’m about to receive a poorly 101 (original) tomorrow which I have been advised only works on 80/40m. It’s deaf on anything above those bands. Does it sound like a dirty

Re: 42 years for a dry joint from manufacturing to cause a problem!
Hi Peter, It's amazing how long it has taken these dry joints to cause trouble. I guess it is all part of the "bath tub curve" theory that we were taught about reliability and the probability of

Re: 42 years for a dry joint from manufacturing to cause a problem!
I can't beat that one Gordon, but I did have a dry joint on one of the circuit boards in my early FT-101 that only became apparent after ~35 years! 73 Peter

Now That! I Do have.. forgot about it...? ?Thanks for the tip!

Also an SDR receiver / dongle would work great. Can be bought for little money

Awesome advice. I do have a Multimeter and a Dummy load to connect the output.? ? ? ? ?Wondering about the AM RAdio usage, as I have of course a Car AM , but I would presume I need an in

Re: FT101ZD Mk1 AM RX but no SSB/CW
Hello, You wrote that AM TX is improved with ALC on? There is no ALC feedback on AM. Have you set the bias current correctly? (60mA) What is the AM carrier plate current when you tune up the rig for

Re: New Final Tubes.. How to Neutralize?
I used both methods (hot and cold) and prefer the 'cold' method. If you don't have a scope or just a simple AM radio to monitor RF output then a Germanium diode terminated with a resistor would do the

Re: New Final Tubes.. How to Neutralize?
Jose, I prefer the " cold neutralization " method by removing the ACC plug in the back to remove the heaters from the finals. Do you have a multimeter and a RF probe? If you don't have a probe, do

New Final Tubes.. How to Neutralize?
Good day FT101ers...? I have a FT-101EE that is due for Final replacements as I only can get 40W out of the rig right now and I got myself a pair of 6JS6C Tubes that were tested in a tube checker to

Re: Early FT101 Serial Numbers
Hello All Thanks for the clarification!…Yes of course it is ‘71 not ‘91….I missed that too? 73 Steve

Re: Early FT101 Serial Numbers
Todd, You are correct. A typo on my part. I was thinking 71 but for some reason hit 91. I have a E model built in 1975. Sorry for the confusion. 73 Don ve3ids [email protected]> wrote:

Re: Early FT101 Serial Numbers
They didn't build 101's in 1991. The early 101's were built in the early 70's. Your rig was built in 1971. I have a "B" model built in 1974.
