Re: FT-80r Questions

Donald,

I haven't been able to find if the radio to find if the radio can be run on the charger without the battery in the manual. Of course, I could be missing it.

I have been to that link. I'm not sure if I want to order a battery and matching charger if the radio itself is dead.

Thanks for the reply and info.

I have DLed the manual. the NC-60B is mentioned, as are Ni-CD batteries. Ni-MH aren't mentioned anywhere.

Anyone know if I should be able to power up the radio with the charger plugged in, but no battery.

Is it OK to charge Ni-MH batteries with the NC-60B Ni-CD charger?

Any ideas on how I might power up the radio without a battery?

Any and all help appreciated.

I would expect that on older radios.?

Does the operating manual say it's able to run while being plugged into the charger? I would go with what the manual says. In lieu of that, I would say for RX only, the charger might be OK as a source of power. The unit may have a 12 VDC input (or another voltage) that is made for this and might work in transmit as long as your PS can deliver the current needed.

Is it OK to charge Ni-MH batteries with the NC-60B Ni-CD charger?
I've heard of some people doing that, but if I understand it well enough, a NiCd charger doesn't completely cut off when the cells reach their terminal voltage, but continues with a tricke charge, and with NiMH, you don't want a tricke charge. If this is the case, you might get by temporarily by watching the charger or timing it and taking the NiMH battery out when it's fully charged.?

I would verify it works first, then buy NiMH aftermarket batteries and a charger for them. Here's one place you can buy those things:

Re: FT-710 001 ERROR

for what its worth,i have a yaesu ft-707 but i have always regarded yaesu being like chinese radios without the qc!,not a fan, seems they are built too much to a price point!.

Re: FT-710 001 ERROR

I had a similar problem with the 710 that I got used.? It had a very early version of firmware (like 1.01 for everything).? The fix for your issue is to completely turn the radio off after the update has completed installing.? I got two messages that said something like 'select update file' and had to load the update two or three times.? I powered it off after each update had installed and now it's working great.? I hope this helps.? Dave N2EPV.

Yaesu DMU-2000 help

I recently picked up a DMU-2000 to go along with my FT-2000D.? When I connected it, I found that the 2023 CMOS battery was completely dead which cleared any BIOS settings in the DMU.? I replaced the 2023, was able to get the time to stay correct, but the DMU still will not boot.? It displays the two horizontal bars from the OS boot process, but instead of the main DMU screen appearing, it instead turns itself back off.? I believe that possibly one of the BIOS settings needs to be changed so that the boot process will complete, but can't figure out which.? The ham that sold it to me claims that it was in fact working when he sold it to me, but I'm not getting very far with that.

thanks in advance

FT-710 001 ERROR

I bought the product 1 month ago, I installed a software update on the device and when I turned it back on, the device said that I had to reinstall it, I reinstalled it, but it keeps me in the same loop as if it had never been installed, it gives an error 001 as soon as I open it, I update it every time, but again as if nothing happened. opens

Mods to a FT-4700H to allow it to expand the bands.

I am trying to help another ham friend out.? He has a FT-4700H that won't cover all the US frequencies.? There is a post in the cloud for doing the modification, but it is unclear as to what you actually need to solder.? It says locate jumper 1,2,5,9,10,13 and short them with solder on the control unit.? Well there are no jumpers that are available to bridge.? The only thing I found was a IC that has 14 pins (Q5) on the board that you could short the pins too.? I have a bad feeling about this and wonder if anyone has addressed this on one of these boards?? They don't give enough detail about where this is on the board.? Waiting for more input on this subject.

Thanks

Wide-banding the FTdx-10 & 7300

See?. Jumper JP6 gets shorted out & the radio reset to transmit/receive 25?-75 MHz. As it comes from the factory they will only xmt in ham bands. There is interest in using 40.68 for tnx & receive using FT8.
A wire or tool across JP6 avoids the soldering.
