Digikejis DR500 or YaMoRC Command station and Boosters
Hi I have a question about adding boosters to the command station.? Currently the command stations can supply 3.5 amps and boosters listed are also only 3.5 amps.? Since I am planning and working on a large HO layout that at first will be around 18 ft by 60 feet.? Eventually it will double in width.? So I was wondering if other boosters that can supply 5 amps could be used and if so, is there any special connections to be observed?? I like the command station for all the interfaces it currently supports and works well with iTrain.? Using one now for an N scale layout.? So the main contreoller DCC signal could be used on turnouts and the boosters for the yards, and main lines.
Thanks for any suggestions or information. |
开云体育An issue to consider when choosing boosters is what happens when there is a fault on the layout. The booster will trip in line with the parameters set however before the trip comes into play then you get the full current available from the booster running through the fault, it may only be milliseconds but it still runs through the fault. Is you use a 5A booster rather than 3.5A then you have 40% more current flowing until the trip switches off. ? It is better to have smaller boosters supplying smaller districts or if a larger booster is used then split the outputs using cutout devices into smaller power districts. This also make fault finding easier because it reduces the potential area of the fault. ? Iain Morrison

Yes, you can use larger boosters.?
One thing to keep in mind is that if you are going to use common ground boosters, then you won't want to use the command station as a booster since it is opto isolated.? Another option, which is how I chose to go, is to use multiple smaller boosters and break the layout up into power districts. My doing this, I am able to retain RailCom and have eliminated the need for circuit breakers. Ryan |
