Re: DR-5013 set-up and Rocrail

Thanks so much Iain for your input?
?I modified my setting according to your suggestions with no success. ?Obviously you are correct it is indeed the CS ?that is detecting the short. My question is how can I stop this short from triggering the Rocrail message " ghost train in block x,y,z,..”??
If I go to Rocrail Proprieties-Automation-Block- and uncheck “power off at Ghost Trains” everything works fine but it is too drastic of a solution …...

I'm using the DR5013 short detection capabilities to manage a "simple" reverse loop .? Following? the manual's instructions? I didn't modify any of the factory settings (no value assigned to S0-S3 or T). All works fine when I run trains manually via the DR5000. But when I run them in auto-mode with Rocrail , the brief (ms) short generated when the train goes over the reversing tracks, is enough to be sensed by Rocrail that cuts power to the tracks instantly. Are there any changes in the set-up of the DR5013 I can make to stop this from happening??

Re: Difficulty acquiring locomotives with a Duplex throttle

Edited

I just upgraded to the UR93 as the UR92 had difficulties acquiring locos with the YD7001. Actually the main problem wasn't acquiring locos as much as it was consisting them. Now that I have upgraded to the UR93, I too am not able to acquire locos wirelessly, but no problems when plugged into a UP5 panel.

Update: I found firmware updates available for the DT602D and the UR93 and flashed the new firmware. I still can't acquire a loco with either a DT602 or UT6, but have no problems acquiring or consisting with a DT402D.?

Re: Unable to operate a flashing LED with DR4018

For info

2 x 220 micro farads worked, no buzz.

I still don’t understand why a standard LED works from the output of the DR 4018 but a flashing one doesn’t. Pity because it means lots of extra wires.

Re: Unable to operate a flashing LED with DR4018

Thanks Iain. I am using a separate power supply which I thought was stabilised but probably isn’t. I will experiment with a small capacitor and see if that works.

Robin

Re: Unable to operate a flashing LED with DR4018

Robin

How are you powering the DR4018? If you are using DCC then you will have rectified DCC as the output and what you are hearing is the ripple from that rectified voltage.

A small capacitor should smooth out the ripple.

Many Thanks

I posted a question earlier regarding the DR4018 not being able to operate a tiny LED with built in flasher, it operates a normal LED with no problems. The recommendation was to use a small relay switched by the DR4018 to operate the. LED,s.

I now have a small 5V relay with a series resistor to drop the DR4018 down from a measured 10V DC at the output terminal, the relay operates OK but with a continuous buzz.

I assume the output from the device is DC so why the buzz and can I stop it?

Re: Issues with DR5033s with upgraded DR5000 w/YD9401 module

Except for 1 thing.
Karst, the developer, emphatically states below that you should not be using common power supplies for HBridge components.
I know people have stated that it works and it obviously does as several have confirmed, but ......I'd be extremely cautious about this.

Re: Issues with DR5033s with upgraded DR5000 w/YD9401 module

Update!

While working with Thomas Ose of?OMS(re)models.com, who is very familiar with this system and a friend of mine. We have it resolved. I had to reverse wiring on the 4 5033s and configure the 5033s to disable auto reverse option, as others mentioned. Still don't understand why this wasn't a problem prior to the upgrade or with my previous Digitrax system, but it's working now, and thats all that matters.?

Thanks for everyones input.

Jim

Re: Issues with DR5033s with upgraded DR5000 w/YD9401 module

Jim,
Hover your mouse over the IB box. It says "The ID with which the YD7001 reports itself in Slot 0".
Sounds like I would never need to know it unless I was doing logging analysis.

Adam,
Thanks for the idea/solution.? I'm familiar Arduinos.? I use them to drive my servo controlled switch machines.? To finish it, Ryan fro Iron Planet Hobbies offered to reprogram the DR5033s for me.
Between the two, that should solve my problem with the two reverse loops.

Re: Issues with DR5033s with upgraded DR5000 w/YD9401 module

Thanks Oldngrey,

I found that one of the DR5033 was not set properly and matched it to the other 3 units. Looking at the Expert tab, I am wondering what this setting should be? IB or YD? And what does it do?

Re: DR5033 with Lenz DCC

I have a DR5000 with 2 DR5033 running 2 regions and the DR5000 running DCC accessories such as my DCC concepts Digital IP point motors - which I believe are pretty much like a tortoise but with a DCC interface fitted.? The resulting frog power comes from the accessory bus.? The auto polarity is switched off on the DR5033s
I have 4 reverse loops and I use a design from Rudys Model railway to manage them.? It's cheap, uses widely available components and you don't have to be an electronics wizard or script programmer to install it.? Above all, I have found it rock solid reliable!

Whilst it's not a direct solution for you I think it could be of interest.?
Best of luck,
Adam

Jim,
According to the DR5033 manual?
The DR5033 is an H-bridge booster with various connection options.........?

I thougt common ground wiring referred to using a common track across all boosters not common power supplies.
Important! The DR5033 must not be used in systems that operate according to the common ground principle. This can lead to the destruction of the booster and/or the central unit.
You can configure the DR5033 from the YD7001. Just plug them together on the Loconet B bus and click on the Loconet B option on the YD7001 app. LNCV value 3 needs to have bit 6 turned on in order to turn off automatic polarity reversal.

Re: DR5033 with Lenz DCC

Karst,

?

Thank you once again for the response. ?I understand that you do not like the auto reverse feature of the DR5033 however the Digikejis documentation says that the DR5033 has that feature. ?It is the main reason I purchased it. ?I saw another thread where you stated something similar and stated that your new product line would not have that feature.

?

With no way to program it and a feature that doesn’t work at random times, I am now left with two DR5033s that are unusable in there current configuration. ?I’m sure adding the Lenz LK200s (your recommendation) would work however, don’t I need to shut off the auto reverse feature in the DR5033? ?That would require me to reprogram the booster and we are now back at my first post asking how can I use a Lenz system to program the DR5033? ?You were the only to respond and your was you can’t. ?

?

That leaves me out over $200 for a product that said It was compatible with my system and that it had a functional auto reverse. ?Sad.

?

To end this, I’m pretty sure what is happening on the random shutoffs is that the booster is detecting the short before the auto reverse. ?Why it only happens occasionally is beyond me.

?

Thanks for the recommendations. ?

Re: Issues with DR5033s with upgraded DR5000 w/YD9401 module

I have a converted?DR5000 with 4 DR5033 connected to a single regulated power supply and this has shown no problems?before or after the conversion.? I have all the DR5033 fuse protected but then that is my over engineering?practice.? Also the Converted DR5000 is independently?fused.

Note the big difference may be that I am using 3rail Marlin track so there are no reverse loops to worry about.? All 4 districts that are fed by the 5033 are also isolated at all common connection?points.

Thanks to all who responded and I greatly appreciate the feedback and recommendations. To be honest I researched the Digikeijs DR5000 and DR5033s, I did not find any information stating that it was not advisable to power all components with a single power supply with the recommended voltage and amps, so I figured this was not going to be a problem. I will say I ran the DR5000/DR5033 setup with this single power supply without any issues, it wasn't until I upgraded with the YD9401 this issue began, so was not sure what I may have missed or configured incorrectly.

I have not configured any DR5033 other than giving them a module address. And as I am really new to using this system, wasn't aware that the recommended setting for these was to turn automatic polarity reversal turned off and to be honest not sure how to do this as well.

**For YaMoRC devices with HBridge it is not !! Every HBridge needs it's own double Isolated Switch-Mode powersupply. !!!??

You mention this is recommened for YaMoRC devices, so is that true for the DR5033 as well?

**Having a power supply drop from 18v to 8v at switch-on is alarming and does indicate a permanent low resistance somewhere.

This only happened once and it happened when I turned on track power. Also i removed all my sound locomotives from one of the blocks and the problem cleared itself.

Sorry for not using the "Blockquote" feature, but I could not get it to work in for me. It kept wanting to quote very thing I had typed....LOL

Not complying leads to Common Ground wiring, which is NOT supported and might and will damage the equipment !!!

That very probably is because of the common powersupply.... but very, VERY alarming indeed !

Re: Purging locos YD7001

I could be wrong, but…

I thought that release would remove the locomotives from the slot they were occupying.
Whereas Dispatch would maintain the slot, allowing someone else to pickup the loco or more importantly the consist.

Does release breakup a consist?
