Re: DR5033 with Lenz DCC
I have a DR5000 with 2 DR5033 running 2 regions and the DR5000 running DCC accessories such as my DCC concepts Digital IP point motors - which I believe are pretty much like a tortoise but with a DCC interface fitted.? The resulting frog power comes from the accessory bus.? The auto polarity is switched off on the DR5033s
I have 4 reverse loops and I use a design from Rudys Model railway to manage them.? It's cheap, uses widely available components and you don't have to be an electronics wizard or script programmer to install it.? Above all, I have found it rock solid reliable! Whilst it's not a direct solution for you I think it could be of interest.? Best of luck, Adam |
Re: Issues with DR5033s with upgraded DR5000 w/YD9401 module
Jim,
According to the DR5033 manual? The DR5033 is an H-bridge booster with various connection options.........? I thougt common ground wiring referred to using a common track across all boosters not common power supplies. Important! The DR5033 must not be used in systems that operate according to the common ground principle. This can lead to the destruction of the booster and/or the central unit. You can configure the DR5033 from the YD7001. Just plug them together on the Loconet B bus and click on the Loconet B option on the YD7001 app. LNCV value 3 needs to have bit 6 turned on in order to turn off automatic polarity reversal. |
Re: DR5033 with Lenz DCC

Karst, ? Thank you once again for the response. ?I understand that you do not like the auto reverse feature of the DR5033 however the Digikejis documentation says that the DR5033 has that feature. ?It is the main reason I purchased it. ?I saw another thread where you stated something similar and stated that your new product line would not have that feature. ? With no way to program it and a feature that doesn¡¯t work at random times, I am now left with two DR5033s that are unusable in there current configuration. ?I¡¯m sure adding the Lenz LK200s (your recommendation) would work however, don¡¯t I need to shut off the auto reverse feature in the DR5033? ?That would require me to reprogram the booster and we are now back at my first post asking how can I use a Lenz system to program the DR5033? ?You were the only to respond and your was you can¡¯t. ? ? That leaves me out over $200 for a product that said It was compatible with my system and that it had a functional auto reverse. ?Sad. ? To end this, I¡¯m pretty sure what is happening on the random shutoffs is that the booster is detecting the short before the auto reverse. ?Why it only happens occasionally is beyond me. ? Thanks for the recommendations. ? -- Mike L |
Re: Issues with DR5033s with upgraded DR5000 w/YD9401 module
I have a converted?DR5000 with 4 DR5033 connected to a single regulated power supply and this has shown no problems?before or after the conversion.? I have all the DR5033 fuse protected but then that is my over engineering?practice.? Also the Converted DR5000 is independently?fused. Note the big difference may be that I am using 3rail Marlin track so there are no reverse loops to worry about.? All 4 districts that are fed by the 5033 are also isolated at all common connection?points. That very probably is because of the common powersupply.... but very, VERY alarming indeed ! ? Greets, |
Re: Purging locos YD7001
I could be wrong, but¡
I thought that release would remove the locomotives from the slot they were occupying. Whereas Dispatch would maintain the slot, allowing someone else to pickup the loco or more importantly the consist. Does release breakup a consist? -- Heath -- Heath @ Human[c]ity ( ) ( ) |
Re: Purging locos YD7001
Jay,
Thank you for the clarification. I use similar devices to you with WiThrottle, Engine Driver, WLANMaus but also the Z21 App on iPhone or Android. I have turned off the YD7001 Wifi and use a LAN connection for all of the above devices. I have just run a session where I was only using WiThrottle and I had the DCC sniffer running. On starting there is a unknown loco showing with DCC address 1807. I then started a Loco #406, and selected it with WiThrottle and I can see the command being issued to the loco. I then stopped the loco and released the loco within WiThrottle. However the commands still kept being issued by the YD7001. There are no other throttles connected to the YD7001. Looking at the slots on the YD7001 I can see the slot being allocated to 406, but after release with wiThrottle, the slot is still there according to the YD7001. I tried turning off all the other protocols except WiThrottle and YD Command. That didn¡¯t seem to make any difference. I have software version 8.2.1 which the app tells me is the latest. Regards Brian |
Re: Issues with DR5033s with upgraded DR5000 w/YD9401 module
After I updated to the YD7001 I accidently crossed the track A/B wires on the YD7001 to where they were no longer common with the DR5033's. Swapping the wires on the YD7001 cured the short circuit I saw at the power district boundaries.

Re: Issues with DR5033s with upgraded DR5000 w/YD9401 module
Moving back on topic in a moment:
I am moving from a Digitrax system to the YaMoRC/Digikeijs world with a few DR5033's and a YD7001. I got them a few months ago when YaMoRC stock was briefly available from Iron Planet Hobbies and Digikeijs supply was dwindling fast. I am also using YD6010LN-CSs for block detection since I use ESU decoders and want to go RailCom eventually and the upgrade path was clear. The interesting part to all of this was the way I could make a power distribution board containing a DR5033 and a YD6016LN-CS in a really compact space to serve a portion of the layout. The wiring was massively simplified compared to Digitrax. Now as to powering them which is getting back on topic..... In the Digitrax world I was using large power supplies instead of the smaller power plugpacks and Digitrax even told us where we could use common power supplies. Thus I had a power supply for all my DS64/74's and another one for all my BDL168's etc. I was not a massive fan of multiple plugpacks scatterered around the layout. So when it came time to design these new distribution/detection boards I considered using one of my Meanwell 15v 350w power supplies for all my boards. But then I became concerned that switch mode power supplies may not be as isolating as I would want, and so I designed each board to have a 15v power run back to a central point where I placed all my power supplies. After all it was only 2 wires per board back to the power supplies and the DR5033 and DR5000/YD7001 came with a power supply so why waste them? I just cut the power plug (with the supressor still attached) and put the plug on the board and just ran wires back to the power supplies. I didn't want AC mains power outlets around the layout. I mention all this because when Jim Tatum said he was using a common power supply for all his DR5033's and YD7001 I became a little curious. I would like to know if it is recommended or not to use a common power supply for all modules and if Jim has automatic polarity reversal turned off? on the DR5033s as recommended. Of course there can be other reasons for short circuits and I am using 15v and not 18v power supplies. Having a power supply drop from 18v to 8v at switch-on is alarming and does indicate a permanent low resistance somewhere. Have you tried unplugging various DR5033s to see what happens? |
Re: Purging locos YD7001
?Brian
I am going to take a shot at clarifying what Karst was saying about Release ..... In the WiThrottle protocol there are two commands that are supported - Release and Dispatch.? What they do is remove control of a loco from a throttle, and the loco the throttle? controls becomes empty.? Karst implemented these early in the introduction of the YD9401/YD7001 in North America - they are heavily used by Digitrax users. It is my understanding that if no other throttle is controlling the loco that is Released/Dispatched, its slot in the Slot Table becomes empty, and as such I would expect that?bus traffic to that loco should stop. The throttle you are using needs to support these two commands.? At our club we use the Train Control Systems (TCS) UWT-100 and UWT-50, that support both Release and Dispatch, and we also use Engine Driver on Andriod cell phones and WiThrottle on iPhones that support only Release. We also have two Z21 WLANMAUS throttles and they do not support Release or Dispatch commands. We use the Release command when a loco is returned to a main yard after switching a town yard - it allows the Yard Master of the main yard to take over the loco and know that their throttle is the only one controlling the loco. I am not certain if Release and Dispatch are supported in other protocols beyond WiThrottle that the YD7001 supports. Jay Lennox - Toronto |
Hi, ? Ah... you seem to be a bit impatient... Posting a ticket last night ;) Signing with your name is also considered polite around here. Your question:
No you cannot. Our decoders do not have CV's anymore, not a single one. You need our YD9100 USB stick, or, from the next release on an YD7001 ( DR5000 with YD9401 update ) and configure the module by PC-Software.? But....
The default of the YD8116 IS (!!) default set for 8x Red-Green Signals... ? So trying to read the manual would be very benificial. Greets, Karst ? P.S. Why do you assume that you can "program" our decoders with the same commands in the same way as a 14 year old DR4018 ??? ? ? |

Re: Issues with DR5033s with upgraded DR5000 w/YD9401 module
Jim, Have you tried adjusting the speed at which the YD7001 triggers a short? It might just be reacting faster than the DR5033 has time to reverse polarity.?

Re: Purging locos YD7001
Karst,
Thanks for your response, I understand you may not implement the functionality. The Roco Z21 has implemented automatic release/purging of locos that have been stopped and are no longer receiving new commands. I was hoping that you would implement this feature, but I understand you have lots of other higher priorities. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Regards Brian |

Issues with DR5033s with upgraded DR5000 w/YD9401 module
I have upgraded my DR5000 with the YD9401 module and followed all instructions as posted in this group and the the instruction found on the YaMorCo website. I have 2 issues at present.
1. The YD7001 is shutoff train power randomly and when this happens it will also loose any consists I have created. 2. I have 4 DR5033s installed for power districts and now when a loco crosses between 2 power districts it throws a short. I never had this problem prior to upgrading with the YD9401 module. I upgraded from a Digitrax DCS240 with a UR92 to the DR5000. I am still using the UR92 as it has been working without any issues. I am using a variable power supply set at 18v/4amps. Not sure what information is needed to get some advise, so let me know what I need to provide and I will update this tread. Update: I am powering the YD7001 and the 4 DR5033 from the same power supply, not sure if that make a difference. Also, on restarting the system the power supply voltage reading drops from 18v to 8v, not sure why that is happening either. Thanks, Jim |
Re: DR5033 with Lenz DCC
Well Mike, ? As a "first" the DR5033 is NOT a reverse loop controller :O? That it worked in the first Loop, is based on pure luck...? As a matter of fact, people using the DR5033 in this way, caused a lot of dead units. So in our own new YD7403 this feature is no longer present. I advise you to add a LK200 module to each reverse loop. ? Greets, Karst |

WiFiTrax Hi Brian, Well, all you ask or expect to be present in the YD7001 is not there, and will not be there...? ? Why ? Well, simple: Your?WiFiTrax?system is obviously not capable of handling a standard DCC-norm compliant refresh cycle. The bandwith (signalling rate) of a DCC signal is roughly 16KBps. Comparing that to a minimum throughput of about 5MBps on a WiFi Network, would mean that the?WiFiTrax?system has a bottleneck in handlicg DCC packets. Also the number of slots, default 117 on all LocoNet based should be easily handled.?
Well, as far as I am concerned, that could be a future addition to the YD7001 control software: Manually purging slot-entries. Using the documented LocoNet messages one can already purge a Loco and free-up a refresh slot.
But no kidding, how on earth should the YD7001 know that you turned off the Battery Power of the loc ??? ? I am curious what?WiFiTrax?would answer to your problems ? ? Greets, Karst ? ? ? |
