Re: Feedback Sensors

Hi,

?

LocoNet Feedback-Address-Space is 4096 addresses large.

That means in theory 42 of these units.... ( with 96 contacts each )

?

But please note: One should prevent getting the ES-Link buscables much longer than 1 meter ( 3ft ) in total from YD6016LN to the last YD6016ES connected.

?

As soon as the distance gets more than 1 - 1.5 meter (3-5ft) use another LocoNet YD6016LN and do the same trick.

Reason: LocoNet is meant for 300ft at least. ES-Link is not. We find 5ft is the limit. Others might find that conservative.?

Re: Feedback Sensors

Hi Karst,
does that mean that I can have several of these LocoNet devices, each providing up to 96 feedback inputs? What's the limit then?

Greetings
Bernhard

Re: YD6016LN and ESU LNet Converter

You could connect the YD6016LN on USB to it's Config Software.?

?

Then watch the logging screen and issue a Power-On - Power-Off.? That should be shown in the Logging.

Yes it does, but is in disguise ? it's the ext88N IN connector. Just use an RJ45 patch cable to the first ES-Module

* the unreleased RC version gets its power from the track since presumably it draws more than LocoNET can supply.
That's not the reason. Since it directly deals with high track current and -voltages, the LocoNet interface must be completely opto-isolated. So it's processor runs off the track connection, the LocoNet interface from the LocoNet-Bus.

* the main advantage of the ES versions is that I can configure several 6016 modules together with only one module needing to have a USB connection. (Ignoring the stick and Configuration module). So if I am prepared to configure each 6016 module on a computer before wiring it into the layout, then there is no need to have the ES wiring. The program button makes it even easier with no USB config required at all.
I urge you to specify the full article number. Only talking about 6016 makes no sense. YD6016LN and YD6016ES?are completely different animals.?So what you wrote does not make too much sense ?

* the GND version is used for switches - buttons or point motor feedback switches. But you could use a CS version in turnout mode. I haven't seen any examples of this online. To keep things less complex I could simply buy a CS instead of GND versions. There is a price difference but the CS is slightly more versatile should I need to re-design the layout.

Yes, it's only the electrical interface that is different.

Re: Feedback Sensors

Hi,

?

We got this question in our ticket system as well ?

?

Here is what I answered:?

Q: Before buying many YD6016LN and/or ES modules I need to know how many I can daisy chain on the LocoNET bus.?
A: LocoNet specifies a theoretical maximum of 47 devices on the bus. In Practice that means however that 40 is a good workable limit. Digitrax used to advertise that as well.

But... nowadays Digitrax advises to use a LNRP ( Repeater ) if the number of connected devices exceeds 20 ? ( maybe to sell repeaters ? )

That is why our solution with extendable LocoNet devices ( the YD6016LN series ) is so interesting.
One can see such a combo as one single LocoNet feedback device with a variable number of inputs.?
The base unit provides 16. every extra YD6016ES adds another sixteen, without counting as extra LocoNet device. So one can create a single LocoNet feedback with 16 upto 96 inputs !!

Q:Since the YD6016LN derives its power from LocoNET and subesquent ES modules appear to get power from the LN module it's a crucial piece of information.?
A: Our modules take about 25mA each. So it depends on the Command Station's LocoNet drive how many can be directly connected. Our YD7001 provides about 800mA hence a total of about 32 modules? (LN+ES) can be supplied with power.? For more modules, we advise the use of a so-called LocoNet supply. That is a device that injects another 1 Amp of 12V supply.

Q:?I also use several Digikeijs DR5097 LN hubs to provide multiple paths to serveral other LocoNET devices. So there is a lot of load on the LocoNET bus.
A: The DR5097 LN hubs are completely passive, so do not add to load.?

Re: Difficulty acquiring locomotives with a Duplex throttle

Can you confirm that when you use the wired DT602D to acquire and control a loco that it still works when you then unplug the LocoNET cable?

Re: Difficulty acquiring locomotives with a Duplex throttle

I disconnected everything except the UR93 from the LocoNet T (leaving the two boosters on LocoNet B). I acquired a locomotive ONCE with the UT6D, ran it and then released it. After that I could no longer acquire anything. I powered off both the YD7001 and the UR93 and tried again. It seems to ALMOST acquire a locomotive but can't complete the last step to notify the throttle. When I attempted to acquire a new locomotive which was sitting there on the track, with the sound idling, as soon I got almost to the end of the sequence (pressed the Loco button on the throttle the second time), the sound went off. This was a locomotive with an ESU Version 5 decoder which has the sound off until you turn on F8, so it seems that it sent out a packet with the new settings with F8 off.

I tried a UT4D but couldn't get anywhere with it, even when I plugged it in! Nearly everything else is working fine (I have signals working, detection working, Railcom readers working fine, but Digitrax throttles just aren't working.

Re: Difficulty acquiring locomotives with a Duplex throttle

Have you tried having the UR93 be the ONLY LocoNET device plugged into the YD7001?
My quick test the other night was the bare minimum - just the YD7001, UR93 and DT602DE
I seem to recall having an intial problem last year when the UR93 wasn't the first LocoNET device in the chain on my DCS240.?

Re: Difficulty acquiring locomotives with a Duplex throttle

I moved the UR93 and throttles over to a mini-layout with a DCS50 (the original Zephyr command station). I had no problem acquiring and running trains with the UT6D or the DT602D (I never even plugged them in). I also tried both a DT402D and a DT502D throttle on the YD7001 with the UR93.? Both come up, recognized the the correct network and both immediately went to "Idle" When I plugged them in, I could acquire the locomotives but could not run them when the throttles were unplugged (bot flashed the light when any communication was attempted). Curiously, the Loconet monitor for JMRI was showing the throttle commands, even though the throttle thought they weren't going out.

So it appears that there is something going on in the Loconet that is causing the issue, but I don't have clue what it is. Does anyone have any thoughts?

YD6016LN and ESU LNet Converter

I have successfully used the Digikeijs DR4088LN-CS with the ESU LNet Converter for block feedback.

I have tried to connect the YaMoRC YD6016LN to a LNET Converter without success.?

Does anyone have experience of this configuration? Is it known not to work?

Thank you

Chris James

Re: Difficulty acquiring locomotives with a Duplex throttle

I previously had a Digitrax DCS240 and had no problems. Since I moved to the DR500 and not YD7001 acquiring a locomotive over the Duplex network doesn't seem to work. It acquires fine when plugged in, but not when disconnected. I get the same results with both a DT602D and a UT6D. I will try with a DT500D and see if I get the same results. I have monitored the Loconet transmissions and it seems to be almost comnplete, just missing the last transmission back to the throttle. Heres the JMRI Loconet monitor for the relevant area:

Re: Difficulty acquiring locomotives with a Duplex throttle

Yes it does work. For me it happened instantly with no config required.
A few things to check:
  • The green light on the UR93 should flash every second. If you make a change in the DT602D throttle (eg F1) then the green light will flash at a different rate for a moment.
  • The YD7001 LocoNET RX light should flicker whenever it sees data - eg pressing a function key).
  • I have the DT602DE throttle as it uses the European frequencies and not the USA ones. I assume you have checked the use of the UR93 with a Digitrax control unit.

The best and safest way is use a relay to isolate the devices.

?

Connect the relay coil to the DK50018 output and the relay contacts to the input of the lighting module..

?

Use a 12-16 volt relay coil.
