Odd behaviour connecting a DR5000 (v1.5.5) to a Dell Optiplex PC via USB

 

Hello all, I have an odd situation that maybe somebody has seen before, and has a solution.

?

I have a DR5000 connected to a Dell Optiplex 3020 running Windows 10, version 22H2 via USB.? The PC has eight USB ports, two on the front, and six on the rear. ?Two of the rear ports are USB 3 ports.

?

The DR5000 is running firmware version 1.5.5.

?

If the DR5000 is connected to any of the rear USB ports, Windows flags a message telling me that an unknown device has been connected, citing ¡®Device Descriptor Request Failure¡¯ and the DR5000 doesn't work.? If the DR5000 is connected to one of the front ports, one port displays an identical message, but when plugged into the other port, the DR5000 is recognised and can be controlled from the Digikeijs apps, plus iTrain.

?

I have run USBDeview.exe, which is a clever utility to monitor USB port activity, and it shows all USB devices that have been connected to the PC.? I have deleted the failed connection entries, plugged the DR5000 into one of the rear ports again and get the same message.? If I insert a USB flash drive into the same port that fails with the DR5000, the flash drive appears as expected in Windows Explorer, so my assumption is that the port must be working OK.

?

Has anyone had a similar experience as this?? Does anyone know if the YD9401 chip upgrade might fix this issue? (I have one on order from DCCtrainautomation).? I did consider doing a factory reset on the DR5000, but that is an absolute last resort!

I noticed the Roster tab in WiThrottle, had no clue what it was used for :) ( since you can't edit on that tab )

Just need to create a Loco Database, which was in planning anyway :)

And importing an xml from JMRI is the least of problems. :)

?

So it may be expected in an upcoming update.

Yes it does but you can also have the roster in the WiThrottle server which in this case is the YD7001. The point of having WiThrottle in the YD7001 is that you don¡¯t need an interface to JMRI.

WiFiTrax which makes an NCE interface and also WiFi interfaces for locos, incorporates the roster within the WiFiTrax modules. Including the function descriptions. WiFiTrax includes the ability to load the roster from a JMRI xml loco export.

It is a nice to have feature.

Doesn¡¯t WIThrottle get it¡¯s Roster information from JMRI, therefore I would have thpught you need to connect to JMRI if you want the Roster?

I use WiThrottle on iPad and iPhone as well as Engine Driver on Android devices. I also have a friend who uses a TCS UWT-50 on my railway.?

Just installed the YD9401 and created my YD7001, it¡¯s great to have native WiThrottle support, but I am missing my roster. Is there an ability to import a roster from JMRI or an ability to create a roster?

I was also impressed that the WiThrottle and Z21 app throttles were in sync.

I'll be upgrading with the YD9401 as soon as Ryan can get it to me. Will it matter that I am running V1.6.3 or should I downgrade?

Looking forward to learning more about the YaMoRC command station!? It appears that one must purchase the 7100 and 7101 if one desires a programming track connected to the command station.? Why no programming track with the 7100 alone?

James, I am hoping that is all he did - Karst had also suggested shunt resistors hence asking which solved the issue
