Hello Andy
Please you got it sorted, sorry it's crazy busy getting order out to everyone?at the moment.
Hope you are all well in your family.
Stay safe.

Don’t worry, sorted it, had to wander about the house until it saw the dr5000 in the ssid search on the maus, all up and running now.
cheers Andy

I am using 12VDC on the DR4018? for my N-Scale turnouts and they work just fine. Per Digikeijs manual: Maximum load per output is 2 amps, total output is 3 amps max. 12-18V DC Recommendation min. 12V DC 3A 12-18V AC
Note on power supply:
When using "old" transformers (AC output), malfunctions may occur during operation under certain circumstances.? When using a transformer, it must also be noted that the output voltage of the transformer must be multiplied by 1.4 and therefore a higher voltage is applied to the output of the DR4018 than to the input (power). For this reason we generally recommend the use of switching power supplies with at least 12V (DC) output voltage (DC voltage) and 3A output power at maximum load of the outputs.
|
Easy to find inexpensive 120 VAC to 12 VDC 5A power supplies (price $11 to $20 US).? Conversely AC power supplies are more difficult find.? After alot of searching I found one that is 120VAC to 12 VAC 5A for $22.50 US.? It is rare to find higher VDC or VAC in a wall wart type power supply.? So my question is AC or DC for atlas switch machines, and is 12 V adequate?
|
Lots of great comments, very much appreciated!? Yes, I will be using Atlas switch machines.? According to atlas, they recommend a 15 to 16 VAC supply that outputs 2 to 3 amps.? Most traditional users would a CDU (capacitive discharge unit) to prevent burnout of switch machine.? The circuitron snapper is one example and they specify a 12 to 25 VAC supply with 1 A output or greater.? Does the DR4018 have a built in CDU???
I will use a single DR4018 in an town.? Some outputs will control just one turnout while others would control two at one time for a crossover. The 4018 specs state that a 12 to 18 VAC supply is recommended for AC input but no specification for amperage (presumably 3 or greater).? I found a 12VAC wall wart with 5A output.? Will this operate two Atlas switch machines at a time (ie operate a simple crossover)?
A simple question, what is the maximum size wire that connected to the DR4018.? I was planning to use 22 guage stranded between the atlas switch machines and the DR4018.
Thanks guys!? Really appreciate your help!

The DR4018 only uses DC, If you connect an AC power source to the DR4018 it converts it to DC power. The "Preset 0" gives you a pulse output to activate the coils. Been using Atlas switch machines with the DR4018 for over a year now and never burnt one out yet.

Hi, decided today to try and connect my wlanmaus to the dr5000, I have the dr5000 powered up but when I search for the ssid on the maus it’s not coming up, ?dr5000 is set to broadcast ssid so not sure why it’s not coming up, tried setting up via prompt on maus but that’s not connecting it either, I am missing something?

Careful, If you are using Altas switch machines they require AC power not DC.

You say you are looking for a power supply for the dr4018. I have one question. What are you wanting to drive on the dr4018? If point motors what ones?

I'm looking for a power supply for the 4018.? Is a 12 V DC 5 A supply acceptable?
I haven't yet purchased my DR5000 and 4018 but will soon.? I plan to use the Z21 app.? In preparation, I was watching videos on youtube and came across something that I thought was odd relative to setting up turnouts.? See, this video link, starting at the 3 minute mark.? ???I don't understand why one must add 4 to the turnout number?? Is that correct for the DR4018 + DR5000 + Z21 app?? Ryan has a nice video showing how to set up the 4018 with Atlas switch machines.? He did not mention adding 4 to the turnout number.? Can someone explain this to me, a novice relative to this technology?

That power supply should work well. Another one which is very good and allows output voltage adjustment is the Digikeijs own version - available from DCCTrainAutomation:

The need to add (or subtract) 4 is only relevant when you are using Roco Z21 as your command station and not when you are using a DR5000

Hi Doug. James who I spoke to . spent hour at least to him From Aust? As he said to use the NCE for trains. And the DR5000 For points signals detection? As long not to mix them together.? It was through Xander from Itrain? Also Paul from CR Signals? That put me on to James.? I found a shop in Australia that I can get DR5000 from. The other I have in the draw is the RR-Cirkits locobuffer USB with signalman . I found JMRI to hard to understand To use it .? Andrew?

Hi,
I was an NCE user and still am on my exhibition layout (that may change soon). ?I had lots of conversations with James from DCC Automation about this, he said the same thing and he was right. ?I took the jump bought a DR5000, it was not a completely smooth transition as I had a lot of other legacy items in the mix. ? One of the issues was the Powershield power protection units. ?I had two covering two districts, well the DR5000 was just too good and beat them every time for short-circuit protection.
After a further discussion with James I bought a booster (a 5033) and set the booster for the track and the DR5000 feed for the assessories and it works a treat. ?The system is that quick with its protection that the sound on my locos often does not die and restart completely on a short. ?
I also had an issue with the way the ESU programmer locked the addresses but that was easily resolved. ?Just make sure you use the DR5000 to write you addresses and it work a treat.
So in conclusion I have a very modern setup which has allowed me to control from the computer, an iPad or iPhone also a handset. ?It has allowed me to integrate the computer to trial iTrain which was fantastic. ?Due to iTrain restrictions ?I am using JMri to control the entire route setting and allow the iPad as a driver with two throttles. ?
I an very happy with the change, James is a fantastic guy he will help at any time to resolve any issues.
regards
Doug
