Re: DR5000 Upgrade to YD7001 at York Railway Modellers in Toronto

Hi All?

Sounds an amazing layout with a multitude of connections ALL working - well done!!

One specific point?

You mention you have 7 DR5033 boosters linked to your command station presumably with LNet B
There is I believe a limit of 4 in the documentation? Or is that limit with the Z21 through Bbus?

Perhaps you or Karst could clarify the limitations of attached boosters (specifically DR5033) to the now YD7001 and whether that is superior to the Z21

Incidentally I have upgraded to the YD7001 and what I use it for is all good but I swapped to the Z21 on my main layout because of drop outs and runaways - the Z21 has been more stable - but I may now swap back having now heard evidence the YD7001 is working splendidly on larger layouts and with more power district potential

Thanks John (JC)

Some answers:

How many WiThrottle connections did you make until now ( simultaneous ) ?
  • I had 8 throttles using WiThrottle simultaneously.? ?Six of the UWT-100s and UWT-50s and the two cell phones running Engine Driver would have been connected through the train room router to the LAN port on the YD7001, and would have been using WiThrottle protocol.? My plan is to test with a higher number of throttles using WiThrottle, but I need more physical devices to drive the number up :-)
And the LNWIs do work ? aka, do not interfere :)
  • I have not done a large amount of testing with throttles connected through the LNWIs, but I have not seen any problems so far using the LNWIs.? Once you added the multi-protocol support and I saw a few posts about people using Digitrax throttles and other brands of throttles simultaneously on the YD7001, I had some confidence that the LNWIs would work and not interfere with other protocols (for example, would not interfere WiThrottle).? The LNWIs convert WiThrottle protocol received from the throttles connected to them, to whatever protocol the Digitrax throttles use and send it to the YD7001 over LocoNet-T.? I am very pleased that the LNWIs work, and plan to do more testing with the LNWIs connected over the next few weeks, and I will report the results.
I will continue to post tips and results to this thread as I test.
