Re: #2020DATES approved for YCSP AND Memorial Day no-frills URGENT RESPONSE NEEDED ASAP FROM ALL!

开云体育Hello Stu!? Thanks for asking!? I have to be really quick now, on the way out the door, but this is important enough to several people to answer quickly now…. 1.There is some electric available for recharging, at least at the pavilion.? I will try to scout out other usable locations on the property to give a more complete answer. 2.? how heavy your trailer is makes a big difference.? I am working out details with the Parks Dept now, and there are concerns with damage to the play field.? Last year we have 4 or 5 days of rain before and during the party (it figures) but the ground was amazing hard pack with absolutely no damage.? If the weight limit permits only the lot for RVs, many are using generators, the horizon is as good in most respects, better to due south, than the main observing field.? Last year I had? only 3 months to get that party going.? I am in the process of working to update the websites and complete all details working with the PA Parks department, which are great people trying to help get this party off the ground without having any issues with an unknown event.? I plan to start publicizing in a couple of weeks, and both fields, while amazing for this area, are not huge. ?If not this year, I am expecting to need to limit party size in the near future to keep the grounds pristine for both our sake and to keep the support of the Parks Dept. Please stay tuned!? Once registration opens, I will be able to see how great a response might be.? I expect to be outlining camping sites in order to allow the largest ?amount of good horizon we can get. Phil ? ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Stu Beaber ? C25, D75. I use a 12' Leonard utility trailer, 1 axle (converted to a 1 man camper). I am non visual, 100% imager with 2 cameras on 2 EQ mounts and operate from inside my trailer remotely via 2 computers. I have need of electric power. There are 6 large (group 27) deep cycle batteries with 3 chargers in the trailer. I can operate off battery only but 110AC makes it easier. For multi nights, I need to recharge the batteries no matter what. Too big a task to haul six 70lb batteries anywhere to recharge. Also have on board the trailer a Honda 2KW "quiet" generator that I use at other sites. It's 300 miles from my home (Chesapeake, Va.) to York county, Pa. so 3 days is just barely worth the trip, but I'm interested! |

I just ran across this SP on line and assume it's just starting up. A very good example of a really nice SP is Staunton River SP near South Boston, Va. in the Staunton River State Park. The big attraction there is 110AC on the field, plus it's 2 SPs a year for 6 days each and the dates there don't interfere with YCSP dates. Maybe worth looking in to for guide lines. Stu |
MERRY CHRISTMAS.AND GOOD NEWS!
开云体育? HELLO ALL! MERRY CHRISTMAS…AND GOOD NEWS!? ? I got a kind-of positive response from the park supervisor.? I am going to copy and paste part of his email to me so you can see exactly what he said… ------------------------------------------------ “…. We have agreed that we will allow vehicles and tents on the ballfield provided that the weather cooperates. The RV’s, camper trailers, and other heavy vehicles will need to stay on the gravel lots like this past year. We will still require your group to purchase a campsite in the Organized group tenting area for the dates that you will be staying overnight in the park along with pavilion rental. We can further discuss this next week. I will not be back in the office until December 30th. “ ------------------------------------------------ We will need to agree on what “provided that the weather cooperates” means.? That should be a fun discussion. Also, two other things that need to be discussed is “like this past year “, since single-axle camper trailers were allowed on the field, and we were not required to rent campsite in addition to the renting the Pavilion.? ? But this means, for all intents and purposes, we have not only a York County Star Party in September 16-20, but a Memorial Day No-Frills event at this park. ? ONE LAST BIT OF INFO NEEDED… PLEASE, IF YOU HAVE A SINGLE-AXLE CAMPER (LIKE MANY DO, INCLUDING ME), I NEED TO PROVIDE NUMBERS TO DISCUSS ABOUT BEING ALLOWED TO CAMP ON THE FIELD.? In other words, if you will or will not attend if you MUST be in the parking lot.? IF IT DOESN’T MATTER, OR IF YOU WILL ATTEND, I NEED TO KNOW.? I don’t know how far I can get with these issues, and I don’t want to wear out our welcome before we get established.? While there may be restrictions this year, that could change, if we do not have any damage on the field, which I don’t expect.? I’ve been involved with this party for 25 years, and I’ve never been disappointed with anything the attendees have or haven’t done.? It’s been my privilege to host this party, and to meet everyone in this hobby of ours. ? So now, everyone, I wish you all a safe and happy holiday!? MERRY CHRISTMAS! PHIL ? ? |

Guys
I want to explain here the reason why I answered A0, B0, C0 and D100 though I may still go there (with lower level of enthusiasm).? Option A, B and C do not allow vehicles to be parked on the field close to the observing spot and our telescopes. That makes it necessary to drag everything over distance or something like that separates us from our car. What is I want something that I left in the car? Do I really have to walk in the dark to the car?? So, in my view,? it is essential to let the PA State Park people know that that is not a good or acceptable option. By selecting A as an acceptable option (i.e., any figure higher than 0%) PA State Park can force Phil to accept one of these A B or C options. Therefore the message to PA State Parks should be "only option D is OK or else star party will not be popular".? Prasad ? |

FW: poll to attendees about camping/vehicle possibilities
开云体育Hello all.. Happy Holidays! HELP ASAP--I still need more responses!!!? It is pretty clear to me what I will need to do, but more responses would make this obvious to the park supervisors. ? Thanks all that responded so far, a total of 16.? At least 4 of the responders have big RVs that, bless you, don’t care and are planning to attend.? I’m ok with that IF I have no expenses.? The lot has a decent field of view, and still a good place for observing. ? But this does not look promising for this state park if there is no compromise here.? I already have my eye at another location that could be dark and could work, and not that much further from my location in York. ? PLEASE if you have not responded, I need more numbers to work with.? I will clarify one thing below, and appreciate your comments, which I will share (anonymously) with the state people, AND the group.? Some of them gave me a laugh, which is appreciated! ? --------------------------------------------------------- This is what I sent out: ------------------------------------------------------ here is the one question with choices. ?You may reply by simply responding as completely as possible, for example only: ???????A0 B20 C30 D 98 (A0 means zero percent) ??!!! ?NOTE:? THIS DOESN’T HAVE TO TOTAL 100%.? YOU CAN VOTE 100% FOR MORE THAN ONE CHOICE.? ALSO NOTE: If you wish to clarify your earlier vote, some of which are confusing, or want to explain, please feel free to do so.? All responses are going into a folder. ----------------------------------------------------- THE QUESTION IS: WHAT IS THE % LIKELIHOOD OF YOU ATTENDING THE PARTY IF: A. you are required to use the official campgrounds in the trees at the north end of the parking lot, and could leave equipment on the field overnight (I've already told them the party won't happen here) B. TENTS and SCOPES will be allowed on the field, vehicles are not allowed on the field, and you are required to carry all camping and astro gear to the ballfield C. TENTS and SCOPES will be allowed on the field, but vehicles will be allowed only for unloading and loading, but required to park in the parking lot near the bathrooms (this MAY be an option if we can't fit enough people on the observing field for a SMALL TO MID-SIZE party. I don't know what that number is yet.) D. SAME AS LAST YEAR: You can park next to your tent, and ONLY RVs and other heavy or 2-axle campers or trailers are required to park on the parking lot. AGAIN, PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL ADDRESS ASAP: philderosa1@... Thanks everybody for your speedy responses! Phil ? ? ? ? ? |

开云体育AT this point, I don't have any conflict.? I expect to attend
(both). A97 ?? B98 ?? C99??? D99 A??? My "astro" equipment is small, I could deal with it.? Would
I be able to park/drive to my tent? B??? Would require me to plan on how I am going to move my
"stuff"...? I could do it.? I might have a heart attack, trying.?
C??? I expect to use my vehicle as storage, too.? I would need to
make trips to the vehicle as needed.? I don't see a problem.? D??? All good... steve shearer; Delaware

Phil I could not make it earlier this year due to back injury but I am looking forward to both events of 2020. However I may not attend if I can not park my car next to the tent and telescope. I can not carry all the equipment over a distance. So options are as follows.? A - 0% B - 0% C - 0% D - 100% Thanks Prasad

Phil, ?My wife and I have attended 3 out of 4 York Star Parties and we plan to attend the September Party and maybe even the Memorial Party. We have the RV so we will be parking in the parking lot like last year, no matter what is decided.? My guess is D will have the greatest response of attending as I believe most people where happy with the arrangements. Then I assume C would have a higher percentage as most astronomers are older and don't want to be carrying their equipment. A and B would have the lowest percentage for the reason I just gave for C. Also with A if the horses are there again they would be riding in the middle of the observing field. Like I said we plan on attending the Star party, the only thing that would keep us is if RV's were not allowed at all or if dogs were not allowed.? Kevin and Cindy Van Horn ?
