York County Star Party [email protected]

York County Star Parties
================================================================

PLEASE PASS THIS INFO ALONG TO YOUR CLUBS OR OBSERVING GROUPS.??

?

?September dates were unavailable because of an unknow conflict at the park.? October new moon is October 2, so I am looking at?October 3-6, Thursday to Sunday, as the most sensible time to request from the park supervisor.? Yes, it's a day shorter, because I have commitments the week before the party that need to be kept.? Expenses don't really change, so the fees will be the same, unless I am off in my estimates are off.

As soon as I get a reply from the supervisor, I will announce it and activate the registration page.??
PLEASE STAY TUNED !
THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Phil

This party is in one of the darkest star party sites near the big cities on the East Coast, closest and accessible to many mid-Atlantic cities. With the cooperation of the Pennsylvania State Parks and their staff, this park boasts the darkest site I’ve ever held or helped at parties, since my first star party in 1994.

?

Two large observing fields are surrounded by Amish tobacco farms with very little light pollution.

They can handle a about 6 large-to-midsize motorhomes and up to about 70 tent sites, all within easy walking distance to all activities and facilities, which are between the two observing fields. There are tall pine trees that, on clear nights block almost all skydomes. Sites allow parking next to your campsite and equipment. With care and planning, we have not seen mud or damage to the field, nor puddles or lakes form on it, even after 2” of rain.

?

NOTE: ALL WHITE LIGHTS WILL BE COVERED WITH RED FILTERS for the duration of the events, including lights inside the men's and ladies' rooms.

?

Amenities include FLUSH TOILETS, a pavilion for talks, potable water near the pavilion, some electricity available for charging, and a dumpster, and plastic bags for cleaning up after Fido. There is also a badminton net, a softball field, a children's playground, and some BBQ grills.? The adjoining Muddy Run Park has a food concession. I will try to provide an on-site shower tent.

?

This is a beautiful park, with many walking trails, dogs are allowed (leashes and cleanup are required), an overlook to the Susquehanna River, with mounted binoculars, and birds of all kinds frequently visible, including American Bald Eagles. Please read ALL park rules before coming, they are all common sense (only use local firewood, no firearms or alcohol, for example).
