Hi Phil

From your last update - 2/2/2020? - as see at?/g/YCSP, it is not entirely clear what the camping situation is for the 2 dates ¡ per the poll we took.

IE, will we be able to drive our cars on to the field? Do they need to be in the parking lot?

Maybe I missed it but can you clearly state what it is we can and cannot do with regard to our equipment and vehicles?

Thanks

UPDATE FEBRUARY 2, 2020....MEETING WITH PARK SUPERVISORS HELD JANUARY 30.?? UPDATE HIGHLIGHTS:

1. MAXIMUM ATTENDANCE SET BY PA PARKS: 100 TOTAL of both fields. Camping field may only be around 75. I will try to map when warmer

2. RULES ABOUT RV/camper PARKING:? At my discretion, using common sense about large RVs vs. smaller campers.

3. THAT BEING SAID, I AM LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO THE FIELD.? (NOTE: this might allow 2-axle campers, depending on size and weight)

4. RAFFLES/ GAMES OF CHANCE ARE NOT ALLOWED.? I am exploring any allowable options.

5. HOLIDAY WEEKENDS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE FUTURE.? OTHER WEEKENDS WILL BE CONSIDERED.

6. COSTS HAVE DOUBLED FROM LAST YEAR.? I would appreciate having help getting people to register for each party ASAP, or I will not be able to afford doing this very long.? Or I will? need to raise the prices dramatically in the future.? I can't depend on the weather any more than you can.? Please consider circulating info via your club newsletters, and please send ASTRONOMY EVENT CALENDAR LINKS TO ME so I can update their info ASAP.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT EVERYONE.? The door is open to make this a long-term location for our event.? PLEASE SUPPORT IT!

#2020partiesUPDATE #2020partiesUPDATE #2020partiesUPDATE

HELLO ALL !
The registration page has been designed and made active, thanks to the efforts of BJ Gollatz, one of the members of the local club that has supported the star party for about 20 years.
Each party is listed separately on the same page, and BJ referred to them as the May "Virgo Cluster Party" and the September "Andromeda Party" to distinguish registrations.?
There are?3 reasons to register early:
1. There are a lot of expenses behind the scenes, so if you register, I can plan the budget better
2. There is a maximum size for attendance without ending up under trees, and I'm getting interest from people 2-4 hours away.? I have no idea how many this field can hold, but I will need go there (closer to spring!)?to check it out and possibly measure spaces for attendees to get an idea.?
3. If I can interest a food vendor for the Virgo Cluster party, it will help if they know they will have some customers.? Busy Bee already committed to the September party.? As an alternative, using the BBQ grills, driving?to area eateries,?or bringing camp stoves are welcome.? No open ground fires allowed.
I will send a follow up to this email to help answer the most common questions, as we proceed to update the website ASAP.?

Thanks everyone to?helping to keep YOUR party going all these years!? I'm looking forward to?seeing everyone again!? Stay tuned!
Phil?

HISTORY OF THE YCSP STAR PARTY

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

HEELO ALL---- HISTORY OF THE YCSP STAR PARTY ¡ the star party MDSP, or Mason Dixon Star Party was started around 1989/1990 by the local York club at Spring County Valley Park, with the equestrian rings, near Glen Rock, PA, and until 6 years ago I had chaired it about half the years of its existence.? At that point, many of the club officers decided they wanted to stop supporting the star party, even though members were fine with having it.? Politics.? I went to my first in 1995 and don¡¯t think I missed any since then.? I have been bounced around by land owners for the last couple of years, trying to find darker skies and a cooperating land owner, and I am thrilled to be able to offer the DARKEST site that could support a party in this area.

Please stay tuned for developments, things are being worked on in the background now.

Busy Bee food vendor confirmed for the September party, but is unavailable for the Memorial Day event.

Hope to see you there!

Was it Mason Dixon SP? MDSP was the original name and it was never in Maryland. Original location was Shreveport North Airport near Kralltown Rd Wellsville in?York County. That spot ended when the owner of the airstrip passed about 5 years ago. This new spot was located in 2019 and seems to be excellent. Bortle Class 4 or better. Hi Roy...good to hear from you again...Hope you and Dee are doing fine...sounds so. Still using that beautiful "monster" scope I bet. I'm still imaging as always and trying to fill the void that losing the ECSP created. The YCSP is just about at the limit of how far I want to travel pulling the trailer. Hope I can make it this year and more. The James River SP is just getting it's feet wet too. They're in Buckingham county in Va. I was all hooked to the trailer and packed to go there last fall but a tornado wiped out their power the night before the SP was due to start...bummer!

Be seeing you,
Stu

Its too bad that the YCSP is on the same dates...? ?I know that my small group of 11 would have attended both, as Phil's party is always a topic of conversation and we all wished it would be in October.? Nevertheless, given the choice Cherry Springs wins out.

I am at Cherry Spring between 8-10 days at a time in and around the star party dates.? There are always around 100 or so astronomers there during this period.? The observing field swells to more then 400 during the star party.??

Long drive for me, too. I live in the Hunt Valley section of north central Baltimore county - about 20 miles due north of Baltimore.? But, I've done the drive so many times over the last 25 years that its become routine.

No...I don't remember? the name of the SP but best I remember it was at a state park in Maryland. We (in the Chesapeake area) lost a long standing SP last year when the campgrounds (where it was held) ownership changed hands. Whether or not it will be returning is questionable as of now, so I'm "on the hunt" for another SP and this fits in perfectly (time wise) with the SRSP

Re: #2020DATES approved for YCSP AND Memorial Day no-frills URGENT RESPONSE NEEDED ASAP FROM ALL! #2020DATES

I just ran across this SP on line and assume it's just starting up. A very good example of a really nice SP is Staunton River SP near South Boston, Va. in the Staunton River State Park. The big attraction there is 110AC on the field, plus it's 2 SPs a year for 6 days each and the dates there don't interfere with YCSP dates. Maybe worth looking in to for guide lines.

YCSP is not a newly started SP. It has been around for many years now, though this location -Susquehannock State Park is just one year old to YCSP. It was previously known by name MDSP and the name was changed to YCSP about five years ago.??
