FW: Yanconians' Foundation Update - Peer Year Coordinators
Just received FYI John From: yanco - Online Community [mailto:sender@...] Sent: Thursday, 21 September 2023 13:15 To: John Eyles Subject: Yanconians' Foundation Update - Peer Year Coordinators 21st September 2023 Foundation Update Dear YAHS Peer Coordinators, As you may be aware the OYU Foundation has launched an appeal to raise $10,000. These funds will enable two senior students to receive a Citizenship Scholarship. This is a new initiative and one that we believe will have a lasting benefit not only for the recipients but also for the communities in which they will be working and living. Our world needs good citizens and YAHS is blessed to have had many pass through its gates, as well as, having some amazing young people who have already demonstrated outstanding citizenship qualities. These scholarships will acknowledge and benefit these students. To be brutally honest, thus far donations to the crowd funding appeal have been very slow. In fact, only 6 alumni members have contributed (and notably from only 5 peer groups – 1950, 1958,1959,1962 & 1969). So, we need your help! Can I therefore I please ask that you rally the members of your peer group to donate to this worthwhile appeal? I have also included (see below) some further information which is on our website but feel free to use all or some of it to communicate the worthiness of this appeal to your peer group members. I am also available should you require any further information and/or provide useful feedback regarding the Foundation and OYU activities. Email me on (yanconiansfoundation@...) Thank you for the time and effort that you put into ensuring that your peer group remain connected. Kind regards, Erin Draper Chair OYU/YAHS Old Yanconians' Foundation Engagement and Network Working Group Citizenship Scholarship Program Enhancing Citizenship through Education Welcome to our Citizenship Scholarship Crowd Funding Appeal. We believe that everyone deserves the chance to thrive and contribute to making a better school, nation and world around them. 2024 2
Hi All, We had a local catch-up over at Leeton on Friday. A great catch up but forgot to get some photos. Good attendance with John Rees, John Irwin, Chris Davis, Neil Crawford, Kel Furner, Don Dyce, Doug Williams, Col Smeeth, Bill Moncrief and me. We had a chat about our next local get together which we decided on 16th November over at Temora so chuck it in your diaries if you are in the area and want to join us. At least part of the day will be a visit to the Temora Aviation Museum but more on that closer to the day. We also had a chat about 2024 60 year reunion – yes, you read that correctly – next year marks 60 years since we fronted up to YAHS for our 1st Year and of course we celebrate that milestone with anyone who joined us along the way. You will be aware I put out an email earlier regarding accommodation and how the class of 74 from St Francis beat us to the punch at the Hydro. Anyway I booked in our Saturday night dinner get together at the Hydro and in the Dining Room where we were last time and I allocated some rooms at the Centre motel in walking distance to both the Hydro and the Soldiers Club. So…the itinerary at this stage is. We will aim for a school visit on Friday morning, BBQ lunch and trip to the Beach Carnival. Friday evening will be the OYU Reunion at the Soldiers Club and we will look to having a get together for partners at one of the local restaurants.. Saturday morning we thought that we should all head over to the Malthouse at Whitton for morning tea and lunch and then back to school for Gala Day. Then as mentioned, Saturday night dinner with partners will be at the Hydro. Sunday morning come join us for a brunch before heading home. Following is a list of people who have told me they are coming: John E Angus Mark & Debbie Briggs Graeme Foley John Fowler for Saturday only Neil Crawford John Catterson Kel Furner Dave Stott Col Semmler Rod Martin John Irwin Col Smeeth Don Dyce Bill Moncrief Chris Davis Doug Williams - Saturday night only Dave Sanderson & wife..both nights Neil Crawford Geoff Fox Chris Davis both nights John Hartnett & wife Al Wetten Graeme Foley - APOLOGY So, 23 plus 3 partners. If you are coming and I have missed you off the list, please get back to me. I think we had around 45 at the last one so hopefully some more of you might put up your hands – it would be great to catch up again as I suspect that the years are going to catch us up and we may not get too many back in 2029. All the best John E

Hi All, Ray Ferguson rang this afternoon and asked me to forward his email to you. Please click the YAHS Alumni link and fill in the required bits…will only take a few minutes to do. They are doing one final push to get their database up to date. John From: Ray Ferguson [mailto:Office@...] Sent: Wednesday, 30 August 2023 16:08 To: 'john.eyles1@...' Subject: Yanco Ag. High School Old Students Email lists Hi John, Trust you are well and we will talk soon ? I am part of a group of Old Yanconians charged with the task of collecting email addresses to be used by both the Old Yanconians Union and the YAHS Foundation to improve communications from both of these groups. We would like to collect the email address of as many of your year group as possible, along with the email addresses of anyone one else who you may feel should be receiving these communications such as ex teachers or parents of students. To help with this matter could you please a) Fill out a form by clicking on the below link. This takes about 1 minute. YAHS Alumni Form b) Forward this email onto anyone of your contacts that attended or is associated with Yanco in any manner. We appreciate your support on this and look forward to hearing from you. 2024 19
Hi All, Now we know when Gala Day is and therefore the date of the Friday night reunion we can start planning ours. I have confirmed with Bollo that the reunion is at the Soldiers Club in Leeton on Friday 15th March. So I rang the Hydro to make the booking only to be told that St Francis class of 74 have booked out the Hydro that weekend …although we could still do dinner there in the Dining Room on the Saturday night – we just won’t have accommodation there. Peter then suggested the Centre Motel which is at 22 Wade Ave for accommodation which is in walking distance of the Soldiers Club so I have rung them and put aside rooms in our name but Roly (owner) did say to get in quick. Phone numbers below. So…I think we could still aim for Hydro Saturday night for our dinner…in the dining room where we were in 2019 with most everyone staying at the Centre. The only other accommodation we have looked at is out at the Yanco Ag Institute where they have both motel style rooms and Bunkhouse accommodation…details below. Outside of that try the usual motels in town. The Centre at 22 Wade St have put aside rooms in either my name or YAHS 1964-69 Reunion…there are currently 9 Queen rooms and 11 twins. Contact Roly or Angel (daughter) on 02 69559221. The Ag Institute is on 02 69512611 or yai@.... We will get back to you regarding plans for the Beach Carnival/School tour, anything else for Saturday and breakfast Sunday. John & Pete

60 year Reunion 5
Hi All, Trust this finds you all well. Had a couple of people ask where we were up to with our reunion next year. The answer is I am still awaiting the School to settle on the date of Gala Day and hence the Friday night annual reunion. Have been in touch with both the school and Graeme Bollo. Graeme thinks we will know something in a couple of weeks. So a couple of questions for what you want to do for next year. Do we want to have our get together at the Hydro again? If not where – open to suggestions. The Hydro owner (Anthony) passed away recently but I understand the business is still going. Are we happy to do it on a Thursday if we can’t get the Saturday? Brunch again for the Sunday morning assuming we do Saturday night and where? And will we organise a Partners Dinner for the Friday night and also where? And finally, last time we organised a farm visit for one of the days – do we want to look at a similar bit of entertainment? At the next local get together of the Riverina boys, I was going to discuss the above given some of the organisation will likely fall to Pete Fraser and John Rees as they are on the ground in Leeton and know the area….so I will have an update once we have that day. Welcome to the group
Hi All, I sent out a heap of invites the other week to the rest of our 64-69 class that are not on yahs64 group as managing two lists becomes a pain. Out of the 19 invites I sent I am pleased to report I have got one response …slow and steady J eh?….so a big welcome to John Rodd to the group. I had a bounce email from Steve Aughey so I rang him and got his updated email and hopefully he can follow the instructions to join in …but if not…Col Semmler - when you visit him in May can you help out? J…ta This list now has 45 members so we are getting there slowly. Reading the FB posts for the reunion in March this year it seems they are getting quite a few of the older years back which is great. If any of you are going why not drop a line to us after the event to give a report. I am sure you will be like me and remember going to reunions and seeing a lot of old grey men there…guess what – we’re getting up there J. Looks like a good roll up too from the guys who were in 5th form when we were in 1st form – so quite few names I remember are going. Our local get together is looking quite good now too with 13 of us catching up on the 23rd in Wagga…so again, if you are in town on the day please let me know so I can book you in. All the best John

Forthcoming Reunion 5
Hi All, Hope this finds you well. I had a call from John Catterson this morning which amongst other things reminded me I was going to put out an email regarding the OYU reunion in March. By now I am sure most of you will have seen the news that the reunion will be at the Yoogali Club in Griffith this year and will be on 17th March from 4pm for a 6pm start and finishes at midnight. Tickets are $85 and I think you can get them via Eventbrite but not sure. That covers dinner etc as usual. I personally won’t be attending as the event coincides with a yearly radio contest I attend – camping and radio across three or four days …what more is there in life? No, don’t answer that J Anyway …if you were thinking of attending let everyone know here and then you can liaise with one another for other catch ups. Given next year 2024 is 60 years since we started then we should definitely celebrate that and I will forgo my camping/radio weekend for it J…so start thinking ….do we want to do the usual at the Hydro? If so we need to get in quick as last time we were beaten to the punch for the Saturday night by another year doing a similar thing last time and therefore had to aim for the Thursday night instead…or maybe that actually suits…what do you think. Happy to organise again but tell me what you want. And continuing on with our Riverina local get togethers, we decided Wagga would be the next one and in February sometime …I will put that out to the local email group as well so we can start getting some suitable dates. Finally – I am still running two email lists so I might start emailing those not on the groups list and see if I can get them to come across. I have also included an email from John Morris (OYU Foundation) so have a read and if you so desire make a donation. John

Merry Christmas 7
Hi All, Hope this finds you well. As the year draws to an end I thought I should put out a post to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. I am aware there have been a few of us on the 'not so well' list so I do hope you are on the mend. Anyway I hope that Santa brings all you desire and you all have a great day and that 2023 is a safe happy and prosperous year. The next local (Riverina) get together will be in February so keep an eye out for those emails. John

Latest happenings
Hi All, I hope this finds you well and you have managed to dodge the covid bullet. Well by now I am sure you will have all heard the 2022 event is now off until 2023. All payments through Eventbrite will be globally refunded -I don’t think you have to do anything. Which I guess brings us to what we want to do next year. I think for sure (assuming all is well) that I will be going to the 2023 event and I guess it remains to be seen whether we want to also have our own get together. We can of course discuss closer to that time …although the time flew between kicking off organising for this year – where does time go these days? J. But I digress. So, 2024 would be our next milestone reunion and hence why I was asking the question re next year. I am all for though catching up whenever we can…after all none of us are getting any younger J. Anyway – stay tuned and we can start discussing this later in the year. A big welcome too to the guys that have come across to the groups.io list in the last few months. There aren’t many of our group left now to come across and we now have 42 of us on the main list. I am also pretty sure that there shouldn’t be anyone getting emails twice from me when I do a bulk email to both lists so I think I have managed to clean all that up. I still have a few on that 2nd list whom I have to contact to try to bring them over – a work in progress. Given that a lot of restrictions have been lifted regarding Covid, it’s probably time for another local get together and I will look at doing that shortly. Below is the email I received from John Morris which no doubt most of you will have also received the same. He also gave me a phone call to see if I could drum up some business within the group and encourage people to make a donation – big or small to the Foundation. I think it’s a great initiative and I wish them well. All the best for now – and do stay safe. John From: yanco - Online Community [mailto:sender@...] Sent: Friday, 18 February 2022 10:15 To: John Eyles Subject: Founding Donors Appeal Hello fellow Yanconians Whilst the Reunion Dinner to celebrate the centenary of the school has been postponed to Friday 10th March 2023, the work of the Foundation goes on. It's a busy time building the Foundation as well. Th e Yanconians' Foundation website went LIVE on 7th January 2022 with a Founding Donors appeal (Click below) to build the resources needed for the foundation's fundraising aspirations. The initial response by Yanconians has been encouraging; we now need the support of as many further alumni as possible. We understand every circumstance is different. I am asking each of you to consider investing in the Foundation through a large or small donation, whichever is possible under your own circumstances. We need to show the sch ool community and our sponsorship programs, that there is a commitment by most of us. We estimate there are about 3,000 of us Yanconians which is a small base for a Foundation. We will always need business and corporate sponsorship. A Foundation Position Statement (Click below) has been prepared to show where we have come from in the last 9 months and our plans, already well underway, for the next 18 months. We have a range of smaller projects in hand. The Foundation Board is formulating several larger pro jects in conjunction with the OYU, with a view to attracting a cohort of corporate sponsors. All these sponsors will want to see a majority of Yanconians support the Foundation. So, please consider those smaller donations you would have given at the reunion dinner. FW: Old Yanconians' Union Reunion Dinner for School Centenary 2022 has been postponed
Dear all, Grahame M advised me this afternoon that Gala Day has been cancelled for Term 1 and just then I received a text from John Morris saying that it was likely the Friday event was also likely to be canned and the attached email that arrived minutes ago seems to indicate that. I propose that our Thursday night gathering should now also be postponed to a date to be advised. Hopefully a possible date will be coming through in the next few days – once I know that I will be in contact again so we can alter all our accommodation bookings for the Thursday and Friday. All a bit of a bummer. Never mind – press on and I will be in touch shortly. Otherwise hope this finds you all well. John From: Old Yanconians' Union Inc. Besides myself I have Pete & Pauline Fraser, Al Wetten, Angus Cox, Bill Moncrieff & Joyce, Graeme Foley & Lyn, John Irwin, John Fowler, Dave & Leonie Stott, Mark & Deb Briggs, Don Dyce & Sally, Doug Williams, Col & Robyn Smeeth, Chris Davis, Col Semmler, Dave Sanderson, John & Lyn Hartnett, Neil & (probably) Narelle Crawford, Grahame Morris and John Catterson. Makes a total of 29. Have I missed anyone? I received the following from John Morris and passing it on FYI. John 15th January 2022 Hi John I am emailing to seek your help in rounding up your 1964 year troops to support the Foundation through a large or small donation whichever is fitting under the circumstance. We understand every circumstance is different; we just need support from as many Yanconians as possible. We are initially looking to the donations of Yanconians to kick the Foundation off and get the momentum for a range of smaller projects. In the meantime, the Foundation’s Board is formulating a number of larger projects in conjunction with the OYU with a view to attracting a cohort of corporate sponsors. These sponsors will want to see a majority of Yanconians support the Foundation. The Foundation website is up and running (www.yanconiansfoundation.com.au) . Donations are easily made through the website by just going to DONATE NOW and clicking on one of the Donor tabs. It will direct you to payment online, by bank transfer, or by credit card. It’s very straight forward and user friendly. I would appreciate if you could pass this email on to your 1964 Yanconians with a message that we need numbers supporting the Foundation to genuinely show there is a commitment to the Foundation by Yanconians. Merry Christmas 2
With just under 12 hours to go I just want to take the opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a safe, happy and prosperous 2022 - surely it has to be a better year :0). Don't forget to let me know if you want to catch up for dinner at the Hydro on Thursday 10th March. Anthony would like numbers sometime in the middle of February. I currently have Pete & Pauline Fraser, Al Wetten, Angus, Bill Moncrieff & Joyce, Graeme Foley &Lyn, John Irwin, John Fowler, Dave Stott & Leonie, Mark Briggs & Deb. Have I missed anyone? On the Friday night (OYU Reunion), I have Joyce interested in a separate partner dinner, Lyn who is going to Yoogali Club but would change if enough and Leonie going to Yoogali Club. Also Pauline is going to Yoogalic Club anyway as she is also an ex employee of the school. Col did indicate he was happy to organise a venue if there were enough not going to the Yoogali Club. So have a think about it and get back to me. I have now lost contact with Les Fyfe, Steve Aughey and Alan Charles - so if anyone has any updated details for them please let me know. Also sent out an email to the guys not on this list to try to get them over here but to date - nothing. Down below is the list who aren't on this list - have a look see and if you are in contact with any of them and can you try and encourage them to contact me to add them here please? Ta. Finally, looking at a local get together in either the first week of Jan or the second with the venue being at Narrandera ...get back to me if you want to go to that too. Emails for that currently go out to a local group I have set up...if you want to be added to that group as well - let me know. 2022 Reunion planning 10
Hi all, Now we are getting a little closer can you get back to me with your plans for 10th and 11th March please So …we were unable to have a dinner at the Hydro on the Saturday night as one of the other years pinched it on us so we thought we would aim for the Hydro on the Thursday night (10th). I set aside some rooms at the Hydro on that night and I have a booking there (which I must confirm J) Please reply to this and let me know whether a) you are coming to the Thursday night dinner and where you are staying and whether you are going to the 100th. I am and have booked in at the Kidman Wayside Inn for the Friday night. Yes Russ, I know you aren’t coming J Col suggested that if your partner would prefer just a get together of partners in Griffith he would organise it – partners are welcome at the 100th…so please get back to me with that info as well so I can progress it. I am still working toward just one mailing list and have sent a separate email to those members I have addresses for that aren’t on here so you are no longer getting a doubling up of emails …trust me it was annoying me J but have finally pulled my finger out and am fixing it. Merry Xmas and HNY John
