Welcome 3
Welcome everyone to Groups and our little group. You may well find other groups with people who share a common interest - examples of groups are common interest in cars or a particular car...or any and every hobby you can think of. Just do a search from the link at the top of the page when you log into the group page. Also when you log in you can do things like manage your email. Not that there will be a lot on this group but you can choose to receive emails singly or in a daily digest. Also, I am slowly getting the photos off the old site back up on to here. We now have 26 of us that are on here but still quite a few who haven't accepted their invitations so I might have to re-invite them because when it comes to organising reunions or staying in touch generally, it is quite hard. For those that have FB account but haven't joined our group do a search on YAHS64. Quite a few of us don't but many partners do so encourage them to join as well. Next Thursday a few of us are catching up in Wagga for an Xmas get together. For the early birds we are doing coffee at Mock Orange in the Lake Albert Village shopping centre followed at around 12 for lunch over at the Boat Club. All welcome but if you haven't already done so please let me know ..partners also always welcome. Russ is currently home recovering from Gall Bladder surgery - I think he is almost back to normal as he is already back to his grumpy self :0) which is great to hear. (I can say what I like here because he hasn't joined) Hope everyone else is going along OK ...and I hope the drought breaks soon. John E

Today's get together 3
Hi all, Hi all. A great catch up today. Started off with coffee at Mock Orange as planned for the early birds and then lunch at the Wagga boat club overlooking a very low and muddy Lake Albert. At lunch we had the western contingent of Col, Kel and Zac who arrived in separate vehicles ?. The NW contingent of Chris Davey and Neil and Narelle Crawford. The southern contingent of Chris Davis and an apology from John Fowler and finally the Wagga contingent of Col, Doug and yours truly. Don was also an apology as he is gallavanting around SE Asia chasing Messrs Phyllis and Fox and also John Rees who is still working and couldn't get away. The next gathering will be in the town famous for its Wowsers, Bowsers and Peppercorn trees - Ariah Park in mid to late April and I will start looking for dates in late March. The pub has been recently renovated and apparently does great meals and Chis Davey's homework was to check out the Cafe coffee. It goes without saying that all are welcome to these get togethers... if you can make it - partners as well. I finally found (I am sure it wasn't lost Peter :0) ) the copy of the original attendance register which I brought along to coffee. This was the one Pete Fraser got for us back in 2013 and which I thought I had given back to him. I found it in a place I hadn't looked. Over the course of the next few months I will improve my original spreadsheet I made back then to include some more of the data - things like your original phone number and where and when the School thought you went after you left. Not 100% sure but it might not contain everyone especially those who may have arrived in 5th form for instance. I will then post it up in the files. Some of you have indicated that you haven't been able to view the album I put up the other day. To view the albums you need to login (/g/YAHS64/) and therefore need to use a password. If this is you then please get back to me and I can try and sort it for you but I cannot see your login details and so there are only 2 options for me...I can either delete you from the site and then re-invite you and you can set that part up again - (login and pwd) or try the 'lost password option'. Finally, to everyone on the list - Happy Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year. John

Update 4
Hi all, I hope this finds you well in these strange times. Fortunately for me, and I hope it is the same with you, most of this is quite normal as I don’t go out that much anyway and the two things I would normally go out for during the week are still running. Just heard from Col (Semmler) – he rang Chris Davis for his birthday only to find him in hospital – St Vincents in Melbourne. Chris had not been feeling well and collapsed – had the ambos been any later he may not have made it. Seems he had an issue with one of the valves in his heart and had to be opened up to fix it…all recovering now but still in hospital. Chris I am sure everyone joins with me to wish you a speedy recovery. Speaking of Col – it seems that the small amount of pressure I have been putting on him for the last few years is finally paying off and he is writing up some memoirs of our time there – so looking forward to reading it. J Had a couple of catch ups with Geoff Fox who many of you will know had been overseas and had made it back to Berrigan to go into isolation for a fortnight but in his caravan at his cousins place. From last account all was well with him and by now will be out of iso. We would have had another get together by now of the RIverina group but this lockdown has put paid to that for the time being. When we know the travel restrictions have been lifted I will get to organise the next one. I think we agreed to meet in the metropolis of Ariah Park – which should make for an interesting day. Looking forward to when that does happen. Will also post Chris’ news up on our FB page. All the best for now John

Couple of things 39
Hi All - again, hope this finds you well and that Chris Davis and Dave Stott are all improving. They're the only ones I am aware of that have been on the sick list recently. I have sent out an email to see if our Riverina locals wanted to get together somewhere around the 7th July and probably in Ariah Park. When I have a date and confirmation of venue I will put out another email in case any of you outside the area want to come across. These get togethers are always a good fun day out. Secondly, a bit of a heads up and a question for you all. As you may be aware, I have been on Col Semmler's back since 2014 to get him to write up some memoirs as his memory seems to be somewhat better than many - LOL. The Covid shutdown gave him the impetus and he has been very diligent...some might say that Messrs Bladwell and Thompson would have been proud of him :0). Suffice to say that sometime between now and our next reunion in 2022 we should have something for you to read. I anticipate the end product will be a collective effort and if you are interested in contributing your memories let me know as they too can be added in. So start winding back your memories 50 something years back and jot down some of your memorable moments. Things that come to mind are your 1st year experiences, the streaking craze, out bush adventures, seances, dances, gala days, dorm raids, dining room raids, Muck up day etc. List could be endless. I have quite a few photos as well. I do not envisage a published tome but more something to be printed and bound and left for you to reminisce and perhaps left with your descendants to read. And finally, some questions - in 1968 who was the Mutch Dorm 8 prefect? We are pretty sure Howard Briggs was Dorm 7 and Mad Dog Davidson may have also had one of the three dagging holes out the back. And speaking of those two dorms - where was everyone else as those two dorms would have housed a max of 20-24 and according to the 1968 class photo there were 42 of us so if you include Ken, Bill Sheridan, Phil Young and Bruce Adams who were Prefects that year that still leaves at least another dorm's worth somewhere. So, if you can remember, can you let me know what Dorm you were in that year and the prefect. John

Ariah Park get together 6
Hi All, Unfortunately the week beginning the 6th July doesn't suit Chris, our host, but it looks like Friday 17th does. For the people heading off to Qld and can't make this one we will have another one prior to Christmas with the venue tba - probably time to head back over to Griffith maybe. Chris tells me that the Ariah Park pub has been done up quite nicely and Jacquie and Paul have really turned the place around and are a wonderful asset to the town. So if you are looking for accommodation, please try them - you can contact them on 69741182 or 04258741182. have a look here for further details. Chris also tells me the cafe (on the same side of the main street as the Pub) does coffee so the early birds can meet up there and then we can head off to said pub for lunch. So let's say 10am for the early birds and 1pm for lunch. Please bring your best memories so we can further pick brains. :0). Thanks Chris. So we can book ahead for lunch and cafe coffee can you please confirm with me for numbers....perhaps by say Wednesday next week - 24th Look forward to hearing from you all. John

Vale Mick Tynan 7
Hi All, Sad news from Dave Sanderson that Mick Tynan has passed away - apparently from kidney failure at 94. Damn good innings I think. I often think of him when I am playing in the shed on some wood project or other and now often regret not paying more attention. :0) . Not sure where he lived but guess others will. RIP Mick John E

Photos 6
Hi All, Absolutely miserable day here so I have used it to do some photo correcting and have added them to albums in the photos section. Have a look /g/YAHS64/photos and compare what I have with your own collections and see if there are any I don't have. If you do, can you please scan them at the highest resolution you can (600 DPI is good) and save them as TIF files. That way I can correct them. Or alternatively send them to me and I will do it...or somewhere like Officeworks would do them as well. All in all it is a good collection from our time there. I have also added a couple from our last get together. Hope this finds you all staying away from the virus and in good health. John

Chris Davis 7
Hi All, Got a phonecall from Col Semmler today to let me know that Chris is back in hospital for an extended stay down in Melbourne. I am sure you will join me in wishing him well for a speedy recovery. Also he tells me that Nona Dart (wife of Ray and mother of Elizabeth and Brendan) has passed away at 94. All the best - John

FW: YAHS centenary book
Hi All, See below from Bill Barwick. Looking for contributions to the Centenary book and seeing as how we are in that mode at the moment you might like to add a little bit J. You can return the form to Bill direct at William H. Barwick <whbarwick@...> Either use the dot points to make a short story or use none of them and write your own. John

Gala Day 2022 and Centenary celebrations 5
Hi All, Thanks to those of you who have responded. I have been on to the school and discussed with them their plans and also with Graem Bollington re the OYU plans. So - the date for Gala Day 2022 is Saturday 12th March. The day will kick off around 9am and go all day culminating in a dinner at the school. At this stage I am not aware whether it will be by invite only although my contact at the school advised me that while there would be some invites, tickets will be sold and she has taken my email address to keep me in their loop and I have promised to keep her informed of ours. Talking with Grame Bollington - he advises me that based on the numbers at the previous milestone events they are looking at least at 600 people attending. The only venue they have that will cater for that many is the Yoogali Club in Griffith and that is where the reunion will be held on Friday 11th March. Under Covid rules as they stand up to 750 people can accommodated. My thinking at this stage is that I would at least try for the Friday night and get accommodation in Griffith, aim to have a get together over Saturday breakfast and head out to Gala Day. If tickets were available I may stay for the dinner - it really depends on whether the school limits those tickets to invited guests or not. If we were not going to get a gurnsey there we could easily organise our own dinner again - and if that's the preferred option I need to book fairly quickly and get some accomm booked in Leeton as well. So...please respond back to me reasonably quickly whether a) you are coming, b) do you wish me to do some block booking of accomm for 1) Fri and 2) Sat night and finally c) do you wish to have our own dinner on the Sat evening. Once I get an idea of our collective thinking I will get back to you all again. Looking forward to some responses John E

Local get together 4
Hi All, I sent out an email to the normal local group but I see the emails going to Hotmail have all bounced. And that seems to have affected 3 so far but I see at least some of them have responded to this full group. So I wil re-send via this group so everyone will be on the same page. And if you are going to be in the area or want to come for a run please get back in touch. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Hi All, I meant to get something happening a bit earlier than this but just been too busy ;0). So – I am thinking of a day immediately after Easter or the following week. Can you consult your diaries and get back to me as per usual. I will also put out a note on the YAHS group and FB once we settle on a day and venue. Given we have done Griffith, Ariah Park and Wagga over the past few – perhaps we again aim for Narrandera again? Anyway – open to suggestions – please get back to me so we can get something underway. BTW – Happy Birthday to Zac – the big 70 J on 30 March. I think there are quite a few 70’s due this year – luckily I am too young ;0) John E.

2022 Reunion - more 4
Hi All, Again - beaten to the punch. I have pencilled the last remaining 5 rooms for the Thursday night (10/3/22) at the Hydro - yep, they have been inundated with bookings since I last spoke to them last week. I have also indicated to them that we will be looking for dinner for at least 30 on that evening and will confirm a little further down the track. I have also secured a further 14 rooms (pencilled in) at the Motel Riverina - giving us a total of 19 rooms under YAHS 1964-1969. I personally have booked a twin room at the Hydro as well as at the Kidman - hence the 19 and not 20 If you are going and need accommodation I very strongly suggest that you ring either the Hydro on 6953455 or the Motel Riverina on 69532955 as soon as you can to secure one of the pencilled in rooms. Once you do that - please get back to me with an indication of numbers for the Thursday night Dinner so I can start locking that in as well. This is clearly going to be a big week :0). I will post here any further updates I see from the OYU. John For those not on Facebook - below is what the OYU posted earlier today. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX 2022 Centenary Reunion: We are expecting a large number of Old Yanconians to make the trip back for the school's centenary in March 2022. The OYU has decided to move the reunion dinner to the Yoogali Club (Griffith) on Friday evening, 11th March 2022. The Yoogali Club can currently (under covid restrictions) seat about 750 people. Bookings must be made online, through Eventbrite, and paid for in advance of attendance. It is highly unlikely that any ticket sales will be possible at the door as firm catering numbers will be required in advance of the function. The cost will be $60 and a small booking fee will apply. Arrangements with Eventbrite will go live online in another month or so. If you are planning to travel by yourself, you may like to consider arranging Friday night accommodation in Griffith. If you are attending as part of a class reunion group which is staying in Leeton, you might consider car-pooling with your group. Recent advice from the school suggests the following activities are being planned for the centenary: Thursday 10/3/22 afternoon/evening - Art Show opening at YAHS Friday 11/3/22 - Annual Beach Carnival, probably 9am to 3pm at Middle Beach near the school. Friday evening - Old Yanconians' reunion - Yoogali Club, 11/3/22 Griffith Saturday 12/3/22 - Gala day Saturday evening - Fireworks over the school lake Saturday evening - By invitation only, centenary dinner at YAHS (no further details available) The OYU will update further arrangements for the reunion and school plans for the centenary on this page, as they come to hand.

2022 Reunion 10
Hi All, I am in the process of pencilling in 20 rooms at the Kidman Wayside Inn in Griffith for the Friday night. I have just sent an email to them to confirm my discussions and am waiting for them to get back to me. I also rang the Hydro - but we have been beaten to the punch for the Saturday night by Peter Davidson - they must have a milestone reunion perhaps? So we cannot have the dinner or any accommodation there on the Saturday evening. It occurred to me though that we could do it in reverse. Have our reunion and get together at the Hydro on the Thursday evening previous - this would then allow for a casual Friday - maybe drop by the Beach Carnival and then head over to Gtriffith for the Friday night and maybe drop in to Gala Day on the way home or get some other accommodation to stay on - that would be up to you guys then to source. What do we think? I am assured we can get 20 rooms at the Hydro on the Thursday as well as having Dinner. John E So - what do you think?
