Re: [OpticalSpectroscopyGroup] [XRF-Page-2] syenite

Taray,

Looking at your optical spectra it looks like at least three of the rounded peaks look to be Sm.

The new run is seeing Ce, La, Nd, Nb (16.62), Y (14.96)

Ga is still pretty weak at 9.27 and maybe Se at 11.27

The REE’s seen in XRF would tend to confirm the optical spectra is showing what is presumed to be REE’s as well

Here are??the sites and files which are self explanatory?

Chatgpt is a good guide?

Fluorescent spectroscopy can enhance XRF analysis by providing complementary information about the sample's elemental composition and mineralogy. It helps identify specific fluorescent peaks that may indicate the presence of certain elements or compounds, aiding in the interpretation of XRF data. Additionally, it can assist in distinguishing between overlapping spectral lines and enhancing the detection of trace elements, ultimately improving the accuracy of the analysis.

Besides some organic substances glow under UV In a diagnostic way

Many dyes and proteins have specific florescent activity?

If you follow optical spectrum forum, gin tonic has got a optical florescent compound called quinine with specific absorption and florescent peaks

Xrf will not show anything since it is purely organic mixture.

?

?Repeated xrf for syenite with my my 60KV??xray setup?

Ga not seen?

As is showing up

May Nb is hiding??somewhere?

Ce is showing its presence?

Attempted dil HCl method with broken particles by scrapping with a file

The solution remains too dilute with very light orange fluorescence

Maybe I should grind a rock first but no intention.

Not enough florophores dissolving??to give bright orange flourescense.

Direct rock method is limited by small sized orange glows which widely scattered?

If there is a big patch of orange glow.,things could have??been easier

Assuming the fluorescence is due to sodalite, which is a aluminum silicate, I’m not sure if HCl will leach anything out, but it’s certainly worth a try. I’ve had good luck using HCl on the REE oxides.

Note the absorption at 401nm which is good for using a laser pointer and another good one at 479nm which laser diodes are available.

Dude?

Will attempt a?longer acquisition time for xrf?

Some rocks deserve more attention?

Not sure dissolving this alkaline rock in dil HCl and?shooting through a quartz cuvette will help in 365UV florescent spectrum.

Quite an interesting specimen for analysis?

UV florescent spectroscopy goes hand in hand with xrf
Thanks

Taray,

I looked for Ga but it’s too weak to say. Perhaps with a longer count time and running the HV down to 20 kV may help bring out the lower energy elements

The optical data are overwhelmed by the 365nm producing the second order peak at 730 and even the 3rd order at 1095nm.

The broad fluorescence peak shows four convolved peaks that are probably rare earths.

Well syenite is found in China based on this article?

This Fangcheng type florescent rocks are sold of as yooperlites or healing stones.

Well the composition of mine is similar to this??chinese article samples.

They indeed contain lots of Zr

Besides Zr ,there is also peaks suggestive of Ce and??Ba which is dominant .

There could??be a Ga peak there as well besides other peaks.

I generally like to keep my acquisition times short to avoid any untoward circumstances with my X-ray machine.

?

Did a 365 nm florescent spectrum using C8 Convo

It shows the florescence culmating in orange

Not laser strong for peak identification?

Spectroglyph software expired?

Enclose article and narran UV spectroscopy file

Maybe Dude can convert it for me if necessary?

Another interesting difference with granite is their magnetism

Copied text..

?It contains much more ferromagnesian minerals biotite and hornblende, and rare pyrox- ene. The specific gravity varies with the constituent minerals and their proportion ranging between 2.6 and 2.8.?

Files??sent

Thank you?
