Re: X-Air Ultralight Aircraft X-Air standard Brake Shoes
Well further to my request and a couple of false starts, finally found some brake shoes that fit. ?Turns out the shoes are similar to those fitted to certain vintage Vespa mopeds, the shoes themselves are marked as 125mm x 17mm. ?Pattern parts are available in the UK and are cheaper than what I was quoted to get the shoes relined. ? Interestingly the brake shoes I received from the UK X-Air distributor were much smaller, so wonder if my X-Air has a much larger brake drum. ? Thanks for all the advice given, it was much appreciated. Darren G-CCRI X-Air (Rotax 582) From: "dkb75@... [X-Air_Ultralight_Aircraft]" To: X-Air_Ultralight_Aircraft@... ?
Does anyone know of a source of brake shoes in the UK or further afield for X-Air brake shoes? ?I dismantled my left hand brake assembly today to find what was left of the friction material lying in the hub. Thanks Darren G-CCRI X-Air (Rotax 582) |

I did a reenactment ?as I have already installed all my tail feathers. I used a ?old Bicycle inner tube but you could use anything to keep from scratching here tubing.I installed the perimeter?tubing first and then the internal cross brace.

Re: X-Air Ultralight Aircraft sails
开云体育I just did mine. It's not too hard once you figure out a system. I used a Phillips screwdriver to help line holes up. A few times I used a pair of vice grips with a piece of rubber to clamp onto the tubing. Then used the Vice grips as a holding point for a bar clamp so you can stretch the sails far enough to bolt it together. If this does not make sense then send me your email and I will send you a photo. It's kind of hard to explain in words. I hope this helps. Nolton

Re: X-Air Ultralight Aircraft Re: sails
开云体育the Australian company will make them from
whatever material you want but Dacron seems to be the best
general purpose fabric. The reason you have mold inside is
because you may have Ultralam which is like a plastic coating and I have
heard of some planes going mouldy overseas in places like
Ireland where it never dries out. They make them for all
models but please contact Alan directly for more
information??? Wingtech William william.russell1@...

Re: X-Air standard Brake Shoes
Hi Darren, For us in UK, we have an agent (http://www.xairuk.com/) but I have not dealt with him directly, preferring to go direct to the European distributer, Randkar in France (http://www.randkar.fr/). That said, I have also had extremely good service and advice from Seamus in Ireland (http://www.xairireland.com/). The French site has all the latest versions of Build Manual and Spare Parts Catalogue among others, but you'll need to register to download them. It's a simple process. Ordering from them or Seamus couldn't be easier. E-mail your requirement to Valerie in France or Seamus in Ireland for a Quotation and a prompt reply will come back. They both accept Paypal which I found to be convenient. Prices as far as I could tell are much the same as here in UK after currency conversion. As for your brake shoes, I'm told that a motorcycle repair place can re-line them or try your local garage for ideas, they may know someone. Have you considered an advert on the Buy/Sell/Rent area of the BMAA Forum? (http://forums.bmaa.org/) All the best, John G-HARI |
Re: X-Air Ultralight Aircraft Please heed the advice
Are you familiar with the Mach .07 design? It is similar as far as the flexing of the airframe. EVERY single one that I have ever seen or flown, has the SAME type of pin type assembly, the bolts that fasten the wings to the main fuselage tube, and both ends of the struts to the airframe act as single pins. The failure of any one of them would cause the structure that they fasten to simply rotate about the remaining pin points. I had a Spitfire, (think a Phantom with struts), the the fabric failed strength test on. Did I spend several grand on more fabric that was far too UV sensitive? NO, I covered the wings in regular aircraft fabric. It held together just fine for years. I don't have the bucks to stick several grand on fabric that is not all that strong when it comes to U.V. to begin with. I will stiffen the frame up, and it will be fine.? ?Please please recognise that if Michael Coates or Seamus O'Donnel say dont do it, then don't do it. They are aviation experts . The Xair series aircraft may look simple but the design is based on a pin-frame assembly, loads of movement it it . Do not under any circumstances use an alternative covering method for the flying surfaces . If you do, it will fail and your aircraft will crash . Huw |
