Doug,

Your instructions don¡¯t make any sense based on what I¡¯m looking at. I wonder if we are talking about the same things? No ¡°Menu¡± at the bottom of my pages that I can see.

When I¡¯m on the ¡°Messages" page, for instance, the selections are along the left hand side. ¡°Files" is one of them. Puzzled. What have I missed? Are we talking about the X5105-Users group on groups.io?

There is a separate section for "Files" contributed by group members.? To find/see it, click the "Menu" icon at the bottom of any page.? That's the one on the right,? with 3 horizontal bars (sometimes called "Hamburger).? Scroll down the window to find "Files" - there are areas for Photos and Wiki, too.

I really wish this was easier to find!? I had to struggle and search a long time to find out how to get there.

Re: I video of some great QRP results today

Thanks Brian, and yes I did. The plans were for a 6 meter version and worked well. This 20m version also worked well and I was getting some DX stations with a single call and not having to fill in my call sign like usual when on an inverted V I often run. On CW, it was flawless.?

I¡¯m planning to make a 40m version for the home QTH with the bi directional gain orientated to the east and west. I¡¯ll make a large common mode choke rated for 2KW and I¡¯ll use Flex Weave ?12GA FW12BK to construct the antenna system.?

Re: I video of some great QRP results today

Justin,

Nice video, congratulations on the DX contacts with the half square.? Did you include the build instructions in a previous posts?

I video of some great QRP results today

Hey Xiegu family,
just wanted to share a video of the great success I had today running the X5105 portable into 2 vertices fed in phase. This is a great DX antenna system because it¡¯s vertically polarized with bi directional gain and a very low radiation angle. ?I was able to work multiple State side and DX o both phone and CW with this antenna system.?

a few local contacts on the 6m version, but the 6 meter band was not open.?

Re: Antennas for portable or Pedestrian Mobile operation

I'm using the Comet HFJ-350M.

Well made, UHF connector with a ground lug already fitted.

Quite happy with it

Re: Antennas for portable or Pedestrian Mobile operation

I tried a quick test of my 20 meter monoband collapsible whip antenna the other day.? I had to take my wife to the doctor's office, and wait outside in the car - for up to an hour.
So I took along the X5105, an antenna and a 17 foot counterpoise wire.? I ran the counterpoise wire out the door and toward the back of the car.? Inside, I extended the antenna and held the radio so that the antenna was roughly horizontal and parallel to the windshield (I was in the driver's seat).
I ran the SWR scan covering the voice portion of 20 meters.? I had to shorten the antenna a few inches to get the resonance in the band.? The SWR was less than 1.5 : 1 across the voice part of the band, and about 1.2 for maybe half of the scan.? I heard a station in Texas (I'm in southwest Michigan), but couldn't work him.? Which was not a surprise.
I thought I'd post this because the antenna is pretty nice - for its size, anyway - and the counterpoise makes a big difference in signal and SWR.

The antenna is a lot like the MFJ-1820, but I ordered mine from ebay, a lot cheaper.? Here are the details --
14MHz Ham Amateur Radio 20 Meter Band HF QRP BNC Telescopic Antenna
Seller??? jeepbangkok
ORDER TOTAL??? US $29.14
View order details - ORDER DATE Dec 29, 2020

I think it took about 3 weeks to get here.? The seller did inform me right away that there was some delay due to the Chinese new year holiday.

Re: QRP antennas

Doug is correct about the difficulty of using the 2.8 inch Nano outdoors. If that is what you have and want to use it outdoors bring a PC and use the VNA software.?

anotjer viable alternative to lugging the PC in the field is an Android tablet with the VNA program installed.?

Re: QRP antennas

Edited

Oops, I had written out some stuff about the NanoVNA, and thought it got posted - but it's not here.

Pretty much any of the units you find for sale will work all right.? There are many clone manufacturers - the nano is not copyrighted or patented, it's "open source" and freely available.

You WILL need (several?) adapters as well.? The NanoVNA has SMA connectors.? I bought adapters for male & female SO-239 and BNC as well.? And a "Pomona" style adapter for BNC to binding posts, enabling connecting wire antennas, toroid coils, tuned circuits, etc.

Do a long-press on the 'keyer type' button to get sub menu, there you can set wpm.

Look in this group's "Files" section.? There is a version of the instruction manual there which has much helpful information and details added to the original factory manual.

The original factory manual is available for download from Radioddity (the dealer).

Re: 5105 and xiegu xpa125B amplifier

I broke down and bought an XPA125B when they went on sales.? Awesome amp - seriously.? Yes, it does seem to knock the x5015 back in wattage to keep power out to around 96 watts, but that doesn't bother me.? Works very very well and the digital wattmeter is useful as well when you take the PA offline.?

Re: QRP antennas

Wow, great info. Thank you Doug!!!
