Re: CTCSS tone
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýAndy,Raddiodity will probably send that on to the manufacturer. However, here is where you can go to post it with the manufacturer directly. Have google translate turned on in your browser.? -- Brian K0FBS |
Re: CTCSS tone
Thanks for looking Brian. ?It¡¯s a shame as it looks to be a later introduced feature that just got overlooked and removed somehow when moving to v3 of the firmware. ?I¡¯m unsure how to contact Xiegu customer support. ?I informed Radioddity who I purchased it through but I¡¯m guessing they won¡¯t file the bug. ?Do you know of the right channel to go through to get this on their radar?

Re: X5105 vs G90
I don't use the notch filter, but the NR works quite well.? As it does on other radios, it does make the audio sound like it's coming through water - a bit "burbly".? It does definitely make a difference and reduces the continuous hissy white noise by a lot.? It has an adjustment to set the amount of reduction, with reference or level numbers from 1 to 50.? I don't hear a very big difference in the noise reduction at the different level settings, though.? (That's not a complaint - it does reduce the noise a lot.)
Maybe a group member has a convenient way to make a short sound recording of the noise while switching the NR on and off.? That could be posted in the Files section, for others to refer to later. -- Doug, K8RFT |
Re: X5105 vs G90
Hi Karen,
Sorry to hear the G90 is not meeting your needs. The X5105 does have NR & Notch filters. I do not do CW so I can only speak to SSB. I find they work as well as most every other radio I use. Which in my noise environment is not much of a reduction. I use Yeasu FT-991 & FT-891. Brian K0FBS -- Brian K0FBS |

But windows software can be created by anyone, and distributed in many ways.? It's a bit similar with Android - anyone can write Android software, but to get it onto the Play Store,? Google has to test and approve it.? Fortunately, android users can install apps without the app store.? "VK Porta Log" (designed especially for SOTA activity) is an example. So, specialized software for Apple products is likely to always be scarcer.? ? -- Doug, K8RFT |

I can¡¯t let this all go by without a comment.

I read the instructions for the RTL-SDR. Windows: Twenty plus pages of complicated stuff followed by another ten pages of what to try when the whole thing blows up in your face. LINUX: Several pages of command line stuff (when will that tedious stuff die!). OS-X: Download one of two programs and use them. Almost half of U.S. users are OS-X people and yet they are confronted by this stuff. I guess as long as hobbiests are writing the software. I know. Buy a windoze machine. I¡¯d rather eat a bug. Panadapter - RTL-SDR dongle
I recently tried my new RTL-SDR Nano 3 "dongle" connected to the I.F. output of my X5105.? It worked out nicely, and I could see at least 1 mHz of bandwidth.? I was looking at the AM Broadcast Band and could see carrier spiked on just about every 10 kHz channel.? And I could hear the audio too, slightly delayed compared to the sound from the radio's speaker.
The Nano 3 came in a "kit" from Nooelec, and I got it from Amazon for about $35.? The kit includes a short cable with SMA connectors and an MCX adapter for the dongle.? I had to buy another MCX adapter for the radio end.? It also comes with adapter cabling for connecting to a phone and to a charging system at the same time (there's a USB "Y" adapter too). The little sdr dongle is hardly larger than a postage stamp.? But it does get very warm - it comes with a small, stick-on heat sink! I haven't found enough other band activity yet to get a good idea of what it might do for ham band operation, though -- Doug, K8RFT |
Re: External amp keying
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI can¡¯t tell from the schematic just how rapidly that circuit will respond. It all looks fairly low impedance and there are no large capacitors to give any big hang times. I think you might have to built it and put a scope on it.I have a circuit rather like that on my QRO amp. (1500w key down forever) and up to as fast as I usually operate, maybe 20 or so, no smoke has escaped. Mike
