Re: earphone

Hi,
?
My earphones just work regardless on how the software switch is configured.? I¡¯ve often wondered what it¡¯s there for, to be honest.

Re: X5105 Carrying Case

I bought this. Holds the radio and a short coax and my 20m efhw in the main pouch. MIc and earbuds in the secondary pouch and then a few other items.

Re: earphone

Interesting. I haven't had any issues and I've never actually toggled that switch. It just seems to activate when I plug in.
Silly question, do those earbuds work in other devices?

Yes, everything works great with the xggcoms cable. The only thing that I had issues with was stray rf on the cable causing tx issues, a couple snap on ferrites fixed the problem.

Edited

Have you been able to use those setting with that cable? I've had no luck

Re: how to make PTT

And the Xiegu mic is big and bulky, too!
I hope to make an adapter from RJ-45 to 3.5mm TRS, but it's not a priority, and so far - no progress.? (I'm an FT8 user.)

Re: Earphone connection (x5105 left panel)

My TRS headset works.? I did not toggle S/P (I think).? As I recall, plugging in the headset switched off my speaker.? In fact, I just tested a tiny pair of earbuds yesterday, and it worked just fine.

I have found no way (yet) to use the mic of the little cellphone headsets, though.

Thanks Doug,

I appreciate the reply.? Bummer its not as easy as it should be.? My goal was to use a small baofang earpiece mic and modify it to just use the mic.? My main goal is SOTA so trying to cut down on all the extra stuff.? Not a huge deal to use the supplied mic, but as they say....everything weighs something, ha.

Thanks again,

Earphone connection (x5105 left panel)

Hi all.
I have an headset with a TRS 3.5 mm jack (indeed one TRS for earphone and one TRS for the microphone).
Connected the earphone jack to the outlet on the rig (x5105 left panel, the outlet with a "speaker" icon)
On menu #6 I toggled S/P from speaker to phone.
Nothing to do, no sound in the earphone.
Any suggestion? Tnx in advance.

Sorry Kevin for my late reply... thank you for your attention.
I will try again.
Have you any idea if this can be worked as a cw beacon? I could'nt find any option to repeat the msg...

It makes it easier to find the info later, with a search, when it's all together.

It seems that pretty much all "modern" microphones are the 'electret condenser' type, which require a DC bias voltage.? The bias typically seems to be 8 volts, at least in ham equipment, but cell phones also use electrets and they don't (normally?} have more than 4 volts available.

The Icom 8 V. mic bias supply is reportedly easy to damage by accidentally shorting to ground.? That may be the cause for some reported compatibility failures.? I also have an IC-706 and have compared the connector pinouts with the X5105.? They do look like they're compatible, but group members have tried and said that they don't work.? I looked into the mic wiring seriously because I want to try using a headset with mic on the X5105.? So far, though, no luck at finding a tested method.

Has anyone had any luck using a different mic or utilizing the PTT pinout?? Ive found a couple references where the G90 and X5105 arnt interchangeable so Im wondering if the X5105 toggles the PTT differently through the data pin?? Been trying to get a little mic to work and seem to have the same workaround by using the PTT on the case of the radio but would love to not have to do that each time.

Re: sending MSG01 via CW

Following up on this, it looks like my messages are working just fine and just wasnt making it into RBN.

I did notice that if i put some spaces before the first character in an attempt to give it a pause before it started sending, and that did result in a constant tone.? Im not sure what your message looks like.

I tested my radio by hooking it up to a dummy load and tuning another radio to the same frequency without an antenna hooked up and everything sounded fine.

Re: sending MSG01 via CW

Im glad you mentioned this.? I just recently purchased an X5105 and was testing some of the features.? I wanted to test CW and see if I could get picked up on RBN and did a formatted message, a sent out a few calls but never got picked up and thought it was kind of odd, but maybe it just wasnt getting out there.? Ill have to double check to see if Im having the same issue as you.

Sounds good Doug.? I'm at a loss of what could have caused the problem then.? Just a faulty part?? I don't believe it was the power supply problem as it's the same supply I've used for years and has been on my 7300 since I got it.? I just know that popping sound+smoke=sad ham lol.??

The negative side (outside metal "tube") of the power plug connects to the radio ground.? I use an extra power plug on the radio end of a counterpoise wire.? The counterpoise wire is soldered to the? plug's metal outer terminal.? It works very well, and is so easy to connect when I'm portable outdoors.

Having the plug outside touch the case should cause no problem at all.? (I'm a retired professional electronics technician.)

done!
for the community: the main trick is remove two lateral protection (those with the tilt brackets) (2x - 4x - 2x3mm screws (tool T6))
this will unveil other screws

btw I had success in finding the wandering object inside the radio.
it was a philips screw "landed" at the speaker magnet.
don't know where it comes from and if if caused shorts...

Re: Released the magic smoke.

I took off the heatsink first and just removed the screws in order that looked correct.? Just remember where the long and short screws go.?

Thank you Tim. I'm much more confident now. I suppose to start removing the back panel, right?

Jorge, I don't know if there was a design change from the one I have but the negative side of the power plug could touch the side of the case before the plug was fully seated.? This was just my guess as to what happened.? ?I could be totally wrong.
